FreeOne of the loveliest public spaces in Winnipeg and a must-see for any visitor. The Forks is an exquisite riverside attraction in the heart of downtown Winnipeg.

We’ve been a meeting place for over 6,000 years. Early Aboriginal peoples traded at The Forks, followed by European fur traders, Métis buffalo hunters, Scottish settlers, riverboat workers, railway pioneers and tens of thousands of immigrants.

Today, framed by the banks of the two rivers, The Forks is Winnipeg’s number one tourist destination with more than four million visitors annually.

The Forks National Historic SiteProgramming is offered Thursday to Monday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from July 2 to Sept. 5

Parks Canada's tours and programs take place during these peak hours in the day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (see Hours of operation page). Please call ahead at 204-98-FORKS (204-983-6757) or email manitoba@pc.gc.ca if you would like to ensure a booking for your tour.

If you prefer smaller crowds, try planning your visit before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. Early morning and evening visits can be the most enjoyable. The lighting is better for photography and viewing the site park features, temperatures are cooler, and the parking areas and trails are less crowded.

Seven Oaks House is the oldest home remaining in Winnipeg. It was built in 1851-53 for John and Mary (Sinclair) Inkster, the heads of an influential Scottish-Métis family in the Red River Settlement.
Their first log farm house (c.1831) still stands nearby and is among the oldest buildings in Manitoba.

Today their restored homestead and its stunning examples of Red River architecture invite visitors to step back in time, and experience life as it was for a family in the 19th century.
