JarczyńskaMałgorzataLodz University of Technology (TUL)GENWISE: Unlocking the Potential of Generational Diversity in Higher EducationCooperation partnerships in Higher Education (KA220);GENWISE addresses the growing generational diversity within higher education institutions, where Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, Generation Z and, increasingly, Generation Alpha interact as students, academic staff, professional staff and alumni. While differences in communication styles, expectations, learning preferences, use of technology and approaches to work can sometimes create barriers to collaboration, they also represent a valuable source of knowledge, experience, creativity and innovation. The project aims to unlock the potential of intergenerational collaboration by fostering mutual understanding, inclusion and wellbeing across the university community. Moving beyond dialogue alone, GENWISE will explore and promote approaches that enable different generations to learn from one another and work together on real challenges faced by universities and society. By recognising generational diversity as a strength rather than a barrier, the project will support HEIs in creating more inclusive, cohesive and future-ready learning environments. While diversity strategies in higher education often focus on cultural, social or disciplinary differences, GENWISE will explore how generational diversity can also become a valuable driver of learning, innovation and community building. The ability to communicate, collaborate and learn across generations is becoming increasingly important not only within universities but also in workplaces and communities, making it a key competence for active participation in contemporary society.Planned activities may include mapping intergenerational dynamics and identifying promising practices within higher education institutions, co-creation workshops, pilot learning and collaboration formats, awareness-raising campaigns, and the development of practical resources supporting intergenerational engagement in university life. The project will bring together students, academic staff, professional staff and alumni from different generations to exchange perspectives, learn from one another, and co-create solutions to challenges relevant to universities and society. The project is expected to strengthen mutual understanding, reduce generational stereotypes, and improve communication and collaboration across age groups. By showcasing and promoting the complementary strengths of different generations, GENWISE will help higher education institutions harness generational diversity as a driver of learning, innovation, wellbeing and community building. The project will also provide universities with transferable approaches for creating more inclusive, connected and age-diverse academic environments. We are looking for higher education institutions interested in intergenerational collaboration, inclusion and community building within the university environment. In particular, we welcome partners with expertise in educational innovation, student and staff engagement, lifelong learning, wellbeing, diversity and inclusion, organisational development, or social innovation.
We are also interested in partners with experience in participatory research, co-creation methodologies, challenge-based learning, awareness-raising campaigns, and the development or testing of educational tools and learning resources.
In addition, we welcome relevant stakeholders from outside the higher education sector, such as NGOs, community organisations, associations working with young people or older adults, and other organisations promoting intergenerational dialogue, active citizenship, wellbeing or social inclusion.
We seek motivated partners willing to jointly explore how universities can harness the strengths of generational diversity and create opportunities for meaningful collaboration among students, academic staff, professional staff and alumni representing different generations.

LelisCatarinaUniversity of Aveiro (UAveiro)What-If Literacy Labs: Building Futures Literacy through Speculative Design in Higher Education and CommunitiesCooperation partnerships in Higher Education (KA220);Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters;Futures Literacy – the capacity to use the future consciously in the present (UNESCO; Riel Miller) – is increasingly recognised as a key competence for resilience, yet higher education rarely teaches it in a practical, transferable way, and almost never together with the communities facing resilience challenges. Erasmus+ projects such as Future Narratives 2 (KA220-YOU, 2023–2025) have shown the value of combining storytelling with Futures Literacy in youth work; This idea takes it further into higher education, using Speculative Design methods and real resilience challenges co-defined with local communities. Its aim is to develop, pilot and embed a shared, open learning offer built on these methods (design fiction, artefact-based scenario building, Causal Layered Analysis). Objectives: (1) co-design a modular Futures Literacy curriculum for students, doctoral candidates and teaching staff; (2) pilot it as challenge-based “What-If Labs”, where student teams work with local non-academic partners on real resilience challenges in each partner city; (3) package it as a stackable micro-credential with open educational resources; (4) train teachers across ECIU to run the labs independently.Indicative activities: co-design of the curriculum and assessment framework; a joint staff training event; What-If Labs in 3–4 partner cities, each with a local non-academic partner; development of the micro-credential and an openly licensed toolkit; evaluation of learning outcomes across sites; multiplier events and dissemination (e.g. through ECIU challenge-based learning channels).
Expected impact: students and staff gain a practical, assessable futures competence; local communities gain foresight capacity on challenges that matter to them; partner universities can embed a ready-to-run micro-credential; ECIU gains a transferable format linking challenge-based learning with Futures Literacy, reusable beyond the consortium. In the longer term, WILL could form the basis of a joint master’s programme.
ECIU colleagues working in futures studies/foresight, speculative or participatory design, urban planning and resilient communities, and learning sciences (especially competence assessment). Partners able to involve a local non-academic organisation (municipality, civic association, science centre) and units experienced with micro-credentials are particularly welcome.Just an initial ideaThe proposer is not sure yet
