Could the school year be extended beyond May 22 (or is that something that's being discussed/under consideration)? (Laura LaPrad)3/13/20This is certainly a possibility that is being considered at this point in time; since Valor is a part of MNPS, there are different options that can be pursued, including extension of the school year, a waiver of the 180 instructional day requirement, and other options. As of now, we are still waiting on guidance from MNPS and the state, so stay tuned :)

TD 3.14.20: I was on a call with the State Commissioner on Fri 3.13 and she said extending beyond May 22 would be a District decision, so MNPS would have to make that decision and ask for a waiver from the State. No news on if they are thinking about doing that as of now.

TD 3.22.20 It seems unlikely at this point that school will be extended into the Summer.
4
Can Valor convert to online learning even if the rest of MNPS does not/cannot?3/14/20TD 3.15.20 : this is undecided. We are still gathering information from State, MNPS, others on what choice we would have, and what the consequences of those choices might be. I currently think that we would have the ability to close Valor even in MNPS does not close, but I am not sure exactly what negative effects a decision like that would have (payment of employees, legality of school days missed and possibly making them up, if we would still be accountable for tests, etc). Will hopefully gain more clarity this week - trying to get these answers.

TD: 3.22.20 Yes, we are moving to distance learning, although it will be 'optional'. However, we are going to really make a push to support and inspire families to take part in the distance learning for 1) connection, 2) well-being, and 3) maintaining academic progress.
5
Will scholars be provided a chrome book if the are 5/6 grade or will us parents need to provide them with a laptop?3/14/20TD 3.15.20: We are collecting information through the survey you took to see about internet capabilities and laptop/computer availabilty for all families. We currently are planning on having 6th graders pick-up their laptops week of Mar 23 and will communicate how that would work.

TD 3.17.20 Good news. We do have enough chromebooks for all of 5th grade! So, we will coordinate a pick-up plan for all 5th/6th graders next week. We are thinking it will be Tu-Th but will verify in Fridays communication.
6
Our 6th grader doesn't need his chromebook at home because he can use our computer. How should we best communicate that (other than here) so that his chromebook could be used for a 5th grader?3/16/20TD: Thank you for the offer! :) We now have enough laptops for all 5th and 6th graders (!), so we will coordinate a pick-up plan for next week. If you don't need a Valor chromebook you don't need to come pick up next week.
7
How will classes take place online? Will students be required to do an online assignment alone, or will there be a call-type classroom?3/17/20TD: We are finishing the distance learning plan early next week (Mon, Tu, Wed) and will then train teachers on it Th, Fr. Families will get trained the morning of March 30th. The online learning aim is to make it very simple for families/students. Most of the learning will be asynchrounous ('not live'), but some of it will include time to check-in with their Pride leader and their teachers for questions.
8
3/17/20TD: We are worried about this as well! We are studying a ton of different models and trying to build a distance plan that will allow for support from adults and peers to help ensure students get the support they need. But realistically, it will be challenging to do that perfectly.

The distance learning plan will be optional (but highly encouraged) for families. We therefore will not be assigning traditional grades - this plan is meant to be a support to help make sure students don't lose too much ground this school year and Summer during this pandemic crisis. So, we will encourage everyone to do the best that they can with their family during this challenging time.
9
If our internet situation changes how should we communicate it? My children are wanting to stay at grandma's house out of state now, but it is rural with internet that is slower and more costly when there are data overages. 3/19/20TD: Your mentor will call you next Monday, March 23 to check-in and give directions for the week. Please tell them this information. We can potentially get you a hotspot to use while they are there...
10
How will the admission process work in terms of re-registeration in Valor for next year?3/20/20TD: We will send out information about re-registration by the end of the week (Mar 27). It will all be done online. We will have hotlines for Spanish and Kurdish as well to help with online registration.
11
Will there be virtual circle time? I'm thinking we might all need it.TD: Yes! Virtual Circles on their way...
12
How will the compass aspects, circle, relational componants etc be part of virutal learning? 3/20/20TD: We will be working on details this week, but YES there will be Compass aspects to the distance learning plan.
13
If scholars chose not to do the distance learning will they still recieve all the credits they need to pass the grade? Or will they have to repeat a class? 3/20TD: We are waiting on guidance from State/MNPS on grades/grading. It is my guess that they will assign grades for the year based off of Q1,Q2,Q3 and not include Q4 in grades. What we need guidance on is if a student is failing a course at end of Q3, can they use their distance learning work to help raise their grade? (Similar to Summer school?) I do not know what guidance they will give here. We will update everyone as soon as we know.
14
Is there any plan for students who had an IEP and were receiving additional help/tutoring. I'm sure many need that extra help to still be able to succeed in school. 3/20Yes, our Student Supports team is working now to think of creative ways that they can continue providing additional supports for our students with IEPs. They will be calling you Wednesay/Thursday (March 25/26) to discuss each student to better understand how to develop individualized support.
15
To ask a further question to a past response, by saying "not traditional grading" does that mean students will still receive a grade on the optional assignments?3/20/20TD: Yes, there will still be feedback on assignments during distance learning. As noted above we are waiting for guidance on if/how those grades might be used, but we do plan on having teachers give feedback on assignments so students can learn more and also have a sense of their progress.
16
Regarding AP classes... any information when/how the national test will be administered if they are out of school in May.3/21/20TD: Not yet. :( They are moving the tests to Summer and we will devise a plan and communicate as soon as we hear more from College Board.

I'm just a parent with a high schooler at a different school, but regarding the question about AP classes the College Board just posted yesterday some information including preliminary info about what the tests will look like and how to prep from home for them (starting this coming week). I found the info on the College Board's Facebook page.

TD: 3.22.20 - we are getting guidance from College Board now and will get it to AP families this week. (See note above from parent as well)
17
Our overall concern are classes that are a stepping stone to future classes esp Math. Will those classes be given priority when creating the distance learning curriculum?3/22/20TD: 3.22.20. Yes we will put an emphasis on ELA and Math in the distance learning plan. We will also include additional resrources for families to use if there is a specific target area for their student (i.e., Math). An excellent support for Math is Khan Academy - going through grade level by grade level is an excellent, efficient way to fill any gaps in their learning.
18
What will the paras role be during distance learning? Can they still assist my child in this time? 3-23-20
19
Even if the days missed are waived and we end the school year in May, could Valor plan to provide a summer school option? 3-23-20TD: 3.24.20 We may consider that option. We won't decide until we learn more about the coming two months. We will have some distance learning tools and expertise by that point, so it would be something we could consider. However, we also have a lot of work waiting for the Valor team to get the following school year ready (that we will be behind on) so it will be a resource challenge to provide significant Summer opportunities.
20
Will students who were recieving counseling/therapy services through the school continue to recieve those?3/23TD: 3.24.20 Yes, we are working on creative solutions to continue virtual counseling services. :)
21
What are the implications for grades and promotion requirements?3/23TD: 3.24.20 We are still waiting for specific guidance on this, but what we think is going to happen is that students can do 'distance learning work' and if it helps their overall grade in course then it can be counted towards their grade. So, in general, students can take advantage of distance learning to increase their grades, but will not be penalized. In short, they will get their Q3 grade for Semester 2 at worst, but can potentially improve it during Q4 distance learning. More on this come to in the following weeks as we learn more.
22
How will Badgework be completed?3/23TD: 3.22.20 We are working on simpllified virtual badgework and Circle (to present). Details to come next week!
23
How will parents be updated on assignments? How will students be held accountable for showing their work?3/23TD: We will communicate this next week as part of the roll-out of the distance learning plan.
24
How will students entering into 9th Grade be able to sign up for classes?3/23TD: We have not had time to plan for this just yet. We will communicate a plan asap. I assume it will be done in some creative virtual fashion. :)
25
8th Grade Promotion Ceremony Suggestion: Bring all 8th Graders back before school starts, distribute certificates, and host block party to celebrate; Reach out to students and families on how to coordinate; (from Joyce Martin, who also wants to honor the teachers for their hard work, maybe a plaque?)3/23TD: Joyce - good ideas. I will pass along. :)
26
Is there any plan for College Counseling to ramp up during this time? I wonder if this could be a good opportunity to have virtual meetings with students, work on essays, resumes, etc.3/23TD: We are working hard to get the basic distance learning plan up and running this week and next, and then will start to add complexity to the plan in following weeks. This is a good idea to think about - I will pass it along.
27
items in cubbies, how do families go about gettng them? 3/23TD: We are not allowing access to the building presently. If there is a dire emergency for something in a cubby talk to your mentor and we can figure out how to get something to you.
28
Adobe Creative Suite is offering free two months for students but they need to hear from the school's IT program. Can we look into that?3/23TD: I will pass this along to our Academic Task Force team. I am not familiar with Adobe Creative Suite. :)
29
How will students who are using their own personal computers access the materials?TD: All distance learning will be 'in the cloud' and accessible from any device with a browswer. We may have some challenges with families that have old browsers - please let your mentor know if you have trouble accessing anything next week and we can help fix the problems.
30
there is concern about retention letters and how decisions about retention will be madeTD: We are awaiting more official guidance from MNPS/State on this, but we think grades will be 'locked' for Semester 2 as the Q3 grade. However, we believe students will be able to raise their grades in Q4 if they show progress during distance learning. We are still getting information about this and will clarify it in the next few weeks for families.
31
Will Monday be the only Live virtual meeting for the whole school?3/23/2020TD: TBD. We are thinking about a few ways to connect everyone weekly, but need to test the technology next week.
32
Will students be able to access Monday's 8 am meeting on their chromebooks? Just want to make sure whichever software is used isn't blocked for them!3/24/2020TD 3.25.20: We have decided it will be better to make the 8am meeting asynchronous (a video you can watch on your own time - not live) but we are still going to encourage everyone to watch it at 8am Monday morning. It should (fingers crossed) be easy for students to access on their Chromebooks. The vision is that parent(s)/guardian and student watch together on Valor chromebook
33
Will the Monday meeting be recorded for anyone who isn't able to watch live? 3/24/20TD: 3.25.20. See above. Yes, we decided to make it a recorded video rather than live. We will still encourage everyone to try to watch it between 8-9am Monday if possible.
34
why can't the teachers make packets for their grade level and mail them to the scholars to do at home this way if they have any problems they can reach out to their pride leaders for help and support when they have finished with their packet they could mail them back to you just a suggestion.but I will stand with you in any decision you make, also to the entire valor team thank you for keeping us informed and all your hard work we are a strong community and together we will stand 3/24/20TD 3.25.20 Thanks for the kind words. :) We discussed packets but decided that online learning would be much more effective, adaptable, and flexible for our diverse learners. There will be ways to reach out to their Pride leaders and teachers through the plan for personal support.
35
just wondering about the school yearbooks and school picture are they going to send them to us in the mail thank you 3/27/20TD: 3/29.20 We will decide on this soon and let you know. I would imagine that we will either have a pick up date in June or mail them to everyone :)
36
Just curious if it's not live, and recorded, why are you wanting us to watch at 8 am? That seems like it will make some teens grumpy!3/27/20TD: 3.29.20 We decided to make it a recording and you can access it anytime between 3pm Sunday and 10am Monday now so grumpy teenagers can do it at 11pm tonight if they want :)
37
If my scholar was in Math Lab - will Math Lab support continue?3/27/20TD 3.29.20 We are thinking about how to add additional support for Math Lab students. That is something we will think about adding as we add complexity in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
38
what if scholar decides not to participate in the online learning3/29/20TD: 3.29.20 Distance learning is optional but highly encouraged. If your scholar is not engaging this week we will be in touch to see if there are things we can do to support you/them. If you decide, even with extra supports, not to engage that is your choice and your student will receive their Quarter 3 grade for their second semester grade...
39
If a scholar doesn't participate in the online distant learning does this hurt them grade wise or negatively effect them besides a knowledge gap. For example could doing this work help past quarters or the past quater? The answer to this question has shifted many times over.3/29/20TD: 3.29.20 We believe that we will get guidance from State and MNPS that says the second semester final grade will be the Quarter 3 grade that a student had in their course. If the student wants to increase their grade, we believe they will be able to use their work done in the distance learning program to increase their grade. So, distance learning can possibly help a students grade, but it won't hurt their grade. Apologies we don't have the definitive answer to this yet - I believe the whole country is grappling with how to handle that question equitably.
40
My child forgot to ask when he filled out the form: Is the google calendar mentioned in the second video the same as the calendar he sees when he pulls up his Valor email? Thanks!3/29TD 3.30.20 Yes the Google Calendar is the same one that he sees on his Valor email! :)
41
Who can we contact to add a 3rd adult to the email list? My child is being supervised by his grandmother until we get the all clear with COVID-19 for him to come home.3/29/20TD 3.3.0.20 Yay for grandmothers! I would suggest adding her to Bloomz. All emails will go to the student emails. You could have her check your child's email. Let me know via Bloomz direct message if you want help getting on Bloomz (or email tdickson@valorcollegiate.org)
42
Are scholars supposed to log in everyday at 8 AM? What is recommended?3/29/20TD 3.30.20 There are a few LIVE events each week. This week it is Wednesday at 8:30am and Friday at 9:00am for Mentor check-ins. The other days it is up to you as a family when to start. We put the estimate of how much time it will take each day in the schedules on the distance learning site. :)
43
Why does my daughter's chrome book say "site blocked by administrator" when she tries to go to the valorcollegiate.org website, and how do we keep it from being blocked?3/30/20JG 3.30.20 - I'd recommend reaching out to your scholar's pride leader! We are aware that some of the links in the extension opportunities document are blocked on scholar chromebooks. Our operations team is working on ensuring that we get links on the document that scholars can access. So, if a site from that document, no need to inform pride leaders since our team is already on it.

We will likely continue to occassionally run into this as scholars get started, GoGuardian (our internet filter) has a pretty strict filter and teachers don't always have access to what sites are and aren't allowed. So, they might assign something that is blocked without realizing it. We recommend reaching out to the content teacher of the lesson or the scholar's pride leader if you are running into issues with sites being blocked and they can bring it to our operations team!
44
When we try to do the enrichement activities such as Virtual Field Trips, there is no bookmark found. Other sites are blocked, such as the Atlanta Zoo. 3/30/20JG 3.30.20: See answer in row 43 :)
45
trying to enter the SCRATCH site but it asks for a password. How do we get that?3/30/20JG 3.30.20: I am not sure I completely follow, but I'd recommend one of the following options:
1.) If its asking for a passoword for permission to access scratch because we've blocked the website, see row 43. Our operations team is working through the extension opportunities document to ensure links in that document are accessible for families
2.) If you need to create an account for scratch, that isn't something that Valor provides or would have access to a password. We recommend you follow the websites guidance to retrieve your password
46
We running into issues with permissions on videos. How do we report these?3/30/20JG 3.30.20: See answer in row 43 if you're accessing through the extension opportunities document. If its a separate video needed for a class, reach out to the teacher whose course you need the video for and they can work to unblock it.
47
Are students able to work ahead on the work instead of waiting each day for it? If not could you elaborate on why not, being able to complete the work early and have Friday off (or other days) would be very helpful for a lot of students because of their work being completed.3/30/20JG 3.30.20: We are currently working with teachers to set up google classroom assignments so they go live at the start of the day they are due (vs. going live early). This will allow our teachers to, starting in the coming weeks, review work and provide adjusting feedback as needed so that scholars don't misunderstand content and practice it incorrectly over multiple lessons without teacher intervention. As we get into this more in the coming weeks, we're hopeful that we can use feedback and office hours to support scholars doing the work well and prevent them from doing all at once before a teacher can support.
48
Today's work has taken longer than expected (getting use to navigating through the lessons and some videos were blocked this morning). I feel bad that my parents are having to take on this responsability of overseeing my Scholars on-line learning, but very much thankful for all the effort Valor has put into the program. Has there been anymore thought on opening up the lesson maybe the night before so that parents who work during the day can help their child if needed and take some of the stress off the caretakers? 4/1/20KS 4.1.20: For daily academic assignments we are posting a 3 PM turn in deadline to encourage scholars keeping a structured routine each day. However, we know that each family's circumstances are unique and require different timing of activities. Therefore, assignments are able to be turned in until 9 PM each day.

We appreciate all of our families who are balancing multiple responsibilities during this time at home - thank you for supporting your scholars' learning!
49
I was under the impression that the daily grid was going to be posted the night before so families can plan their mornings ahead of time. However, so far we haven't be able to access until day of. What time can we expect these assignments to be posted? From our perspective, the night before would be very helpful for us as we plan our day, wifi access, helping our other students etc. Is this still possible? Thank you so much for all your hard work, we are so thankful for the whole Valor team!! 4/1/20KS 4.1.20: Thank you for your kind words! We are posting daily grids this week at 8 am to help establish a routine for kids of working on just the assignments for that day. Assignment due dates are posted as 3:00PM, but can be turned in until 9PM the day they're assigned (see row 48 above for more on this).

For your planning purposes, you can expect the daily structure to follow what is posted on the "weekly overview" if you look at the weekly grid buttons on the distance learning webiste. (example: https://www.valordistancelearning.com/5th-grade, "Click Here for the Weekly Overview").
50
My child finished an assignment after 3:00pm and it was recorded as late. Just clarifying we have until 9:00pm to turn in the assignment for the day?4/1/20KS: 4.1.20: Yes, that's correct! Though it may be "late" according to the 3 PM deadline, teachers will still be able to review assignments and provide feedback if assignments are turned in by 9 PM.
51
Is attending the live mentor check-ins optional or mandatory for students?4/3/20JG: 4.5.20: Mentor check-ins are like the rest of our distance learning plan, optional but highly encouraged. We feel like these times will be an opportunity for scholars and staff to feel some connection with their mentors and their groups, so we recommend scholars attend.
52
I thought parents would have access to the weekly overview. Its now blocked. See line 49 response from KS. Thank you4/6/20JG: 4.6.20 When I just went to the website (Monday at 7:00 AM), I'm able to see the weekly overview for each grade and looks like the settings are that anyone can view. Each grid for each day is still limited to Valor-only email addresses. This allows us to track participation for scholar completion and limits the grids to just members of our community and not students or families from other schools.

If you're still unable to see the weekly overview, feel free to reach out to your principal and they can help problem solve!
53
Same as above. thank you.86250411
54
Are scholars allowed to use their chromebooks for personal zoom calls with friends? Or do you prefer it is only for school related activities. Thanks for all the work the entire Valor team is doing! We feel beyond blessed to be a part of Valor!!JG: 4.6.20: Thank you for the kind words! No, they are unfortunately not. Our chromebooks are school-issued so Zoom sessions that are unsupervised by a Valor adult and between students are not allowed on Valor chromebooks.

Scholars are obviously welcome to use other, personal devices for this personal communication with their friends.
55
Is it possible to also have access to a paper version of the on-line class assignments? We have found it might be easier to work on the assignments on paper first and then go back and enter on the chrome books. It has been a little challenging for me navigating back an forth thorugh the different tabs helping my scholar. Seems like it would be more helpful to print out the work if needed. Is this an option? Thank you4/6/20JG: 4.6.20: Scholars and families are welcome to print off materials. This would presumably happen from a home device, so scholars would just need to log into their Valor email address on their home device and could then access grids through the daily website and print off the materials.
56
Will my child get a credit for this towards his/her grades?4/9/2020JS: 4.9.20: The state just released information at 3:00 PM today about high school grading in distance learning. We will communicate the grading policy to high school families in Sunday's Principal Update. As for middle schools, we are still waiting for guidance from the state and MNPS about next steps.
57
For some mentor groups that only have a few kids showing up for the live mentor gorupsJS: 4.9.20: It doesn't look like this question was fully asked. If you want to complete the question in another row, we'd be happy to answer!
58
A friend who's child is newly enrolling in 6th grade at valor next year has expressed concern that because Valor is continuing scholar education so intensely, their child will be behind coming next year. Should she be concerned about this?4/9/20JS: 4.9.20: I totally understand that concern. However, we serve a range of learners in our diverse by design school, so we will be able to meet her where she is when she comes in. However, I would encourage that family to utilize resources found on websites like Khan Academy to make sure that the student is engaging at some level in academic work to not fall out of that routine.
59
At this time office hours are scholar initiated if they recognize they are having difficulty. However, there are often times when scholars aren't aware that they are completing a task incorrectly or misunderstanding a concept. Course correction identified by the teacher would be needed so they don't continue to practice mistakes. Will teachers be providing individual feedback to scholars about the assignments they are completing? If so, how will this feedback occur? (Thanks, E. Roberts)4/9/20JS: 4.9.20: At this time, we are asking teachers to hold twice-weekly drop-in office hours and twice-weekly invite-only office hours. Teachers are providing feedback in multiple ways at this point:

1. During a lesson's launch, a teacher will provide batch feedback about the most commonly recognized errors from when the teacher was reviewing student work.

2. If there are glaring errors as teachers are working through their review of student work, they may leave comments on the work, reach out to the student to provide written feedback via email, or possibly invite them to the invite-only office hours.
60
For the HS it looks like there were 8 DLOs this week. In the Q&A yesterday you presented that there would be 30 possible DLOs over the next six weeks. That's only 5 per week. Do I have the math right? Thanks. 4/10/20JG: 4/13/20: I asked Mr. Sprayberry and here is his answer. I'd reach out to him or to you pride leader direclty if you have additional questions here!

"It depends on the subject (and if a student is in all them) and last week was a short week.

MWF: Math/ELA/WH (if enrolled)

T/Th: Science, Spanish, Math Link (if enrolled)

Each day: AP Human and AP Seminar

Each MWF class has three/week. Each T/Th has two per week."
61
As a student, I feel like some teachers (mostly ELA) are giving too much work, which kind of discourages me from doing the work.4/10/20JG: 4/13/20:
I'm sorry to hear that! I'd recommend reaching out directly to your teacher with questions or to see if there is anything they can do to support. Office hours are a great resource as well and a place you can ask teachers questions if lessons are taking you a really long time.
62
I still don't see a weekly overview for 8th grade this week, and my daughter is locked out of the live mentor group if there is one this morning. Whom should we contact to fix this?JG: 4/13/20:
The weekly overview is now up!

There were a fair amount of scholars that were struggling this morning with the Zoom pride. We're not quite sure what the issue was but we're investigating. I'd recommend using your pride leader as a first resource with any tech questions, they can either help answer or direct you to the right place
63
How do we distinguish "assignments" for each course with DLOs? Is all assigned work with a due date/time considered a DLO?JG: 4/13/20:
Yes, a DLO (Daily Learning Opportunity) is the same as an assignment. We use the terms interchangably. While a DLO might have many components (a do-now, independent practice, ET, etc.), we track the exit ticket submission as a complete DLO through kickboard
64
What is the best way to stay up to date on how my child is doing with the on-line learning? I can see where the work was turned in but how do I know if there were mistakes made and if the work turned in was satisfactory?4/14/20KS 4/14:
Teachers are providing feedback in multiple ways at this point:
1. During a lesson's launch, a teacher will provide batch feedback about the most commonly recognized errors from when the teacher was reviewing student work.
2. If there are glaring errors as teachers are working through their review of student work, they may leave comments on the work, reach out to the student to provide written feedback via email, or possibly invite them to the invite-only office hours.
3. If a scholar is hoping to recieve feedback on their submitted assignments, I reccomend that they attend that teacher's opt-in office hours.
65
4/15
66
Will scholars receive a mentor grade for 4th nine weeks based on weekly zoom meetings with Mentors or will other things factor into this as part of the "DLO complete"4/15JS, 4/19: At VCP, students will recieve a Q4 grade for Mentoring based on whether or not they are on-track for Badge Work Completion. If they complete all Badge Work, Individual Work, and Cimmunity Work that was due in Semester 2, they will recieive a 100 for Q4. If they do not, they will earn a Semester 2 grade that based on their Q3 grade only.
67
My scholar submitted work but received a DLO incomplete is there a way to prove assignment was completed and submitted on time?4/15JS, 4/19: At VCP, we are using a modified effort rubric linked into the grading policy emailed out to students and included in the Principal Update. It could be that your student completed the assignment, but did not meet the criteria inside the effort rubric. You should reach out directly to the teacher for clarification.

JG, 4/19: At the MSs, we aren't using the same grading policy. That being said, we recommend reaching out to your scholar's teacher to check on the status of the submitted DLO
68
69
Are scholars discouraged from completing assignments together through FaceTime? The Spanish II class is proving to be quite challenging in this DLO model but seems to manageable when conversing with other scholars about content and assignments?4/15JG, 4/19: Scholars are generally discouraged from completing assignments, as it becomes really hard without a teacher present to monitor what is helpful sharing and what is over-sharing and an academic integrity issue. That being said, we recognize that for certain content areas (like Spanish II!), that collaboration can be helpful. Moving forward, we'll ask teachers to include in their directions whether scholars can/should be collaborating on an assignment.

If scholars are having trouble with the assignments, we also encourage them to use opt-in office hours to get their questions answered by their teachers.

Early on we were informed that a scholar at Flagship had tested positive for the virus. How are they doing now? Fully recovered, I hope. Have any other scholars caught the virus?4/16JG, 4/19: Thank you for asking! Yes, the intial scholar we communicated about has recovered. We are aware of other members of our community who have tested postive for Covid-19 and are communicating with those families as needed. Out of respect for everyone's privacy, we won't share much more than that. If your scholar or family does test postive for coronavirus, please consider sharing with your principal so we're aware and can support your scholar and family as needed

Are we able to pick up medications from the office? I'm fine leaving it until the fall, as long as it is not thrown out.4/16JG, 4/19: Our team is working on plans now that we know we won't be going back to school for remainder of the year. One of the things we're considering is if/how we'd have scholars/families to come onsite to get their belongings. As we work on those plans, we'll communicate how families can pick up their medications and other personal items

Are you on the pass/fail grading system currently? Will students still be held back?4/24JG, 4/26: In our MSs, we will not have grades in Q4. We will consider retaining a scholar based on Q3 grades, their midyear MAP data, and their Q3 benchmarks. We wouldn't retain a scholar unless we had communicated throughout the year about retention as a possible option. We will be in touch in the coming weeks with families who we think this is a good option for.

Is there a 'final' day for distance learning? I apologize if I missed that somewhere. Thanks for all you all are doing!4/28KS, 4/29: The final day for distance learning will be Thursday, 5/22

Flagship does have a reading contest. The survey for Flaghip's contest can be found on the daily learning grids for this week, and all scholars also recieved an email with the reading survey! Feel free to reach out to your scholar's pride leader with any questions or to request the survey again.

Is it still possible that if a scholar does good work that it may bump up their Q3 grade?4/29KS 4/29: There will be no grades in Q4 for middle schoolers. There is a HS grading policy that was included in messages on Bloomz and is tied to a scholar's work completion during Distance Learning.

Are we still on for May 22 being the last day of school?5/2JS, 5/3: Yes, the final day of school is still Thursday, 5/22.

will there be a virtual "geting to know" HS for the 8th graders moving up next year? i.e what to expect day one, classes etc. And how can we best corrdinate for transportation needs ext yr in HS. i.e carpooling5/6JS, 5/6: Yes! And we are so looking forward to it! We'll communicate out more details towards the end of the school year, but we are currently planning orientation for all our families - just like in middle school - to get a chance to know your teachers, your Mentor, and key aspects of academics, culture, and operations to begin day one at VCP. For now, if you have questions about logistics (e.g. carpooling), please reach out to our Director of Operations, Lisa Ladd, at lladd@valorcollegiate.org.

Regarding your answer to question on line 75, I u derstand there aren't Q4 grades but I thought our scholars could bring up a Q3 grade with DL? 5/6KS, 5/6: Apologies if a previous answer didn't fully address your question! At the Middle Schools, distance learning will not have an impact on a scholar's Q3 grade. At VCP, participating in distance learning can positively impact a scholar's grade in a course.

When and how will chromebooks be returned? Or will scholars hold on to them over the summer?
80
Will there be any type of end-of-year virtual academic awards/recognition for Q1-3 work?
81
It is my understanding that chromebooks will remain with scholars who are returning over the summer. Will scholars also be able to keep using their Google login over the summer for email and other enrichment?
