8 | Purpose The Big Picture | The following pacing documents are provided to support a high quality and equitable literacy experience for each and every student in Cherry Creek schools through Tier 1 Universal Instruction. These documents will: 1. Give teachers a full year's glance at pacing out our Board of Education approved curriculum HMH Into Reading (K-5) and Wilson Fundations (K-3). 2. Provide unit and module assessment guidelines to allow for common pacing for district recommended assessments. 3. Communicate pacing to all teachers to allow for alignment, support & extension (ex. ILC, GT, ELL, BD, AN, intervention, mild/mod, etc).
9 | Unit and Module Pacing | Each unit in Wilson Fundations is explicitly taught and the scope and sequence with Fundations allows for systematic, explicit instruction in a multi-modal way. Time is considered for re-teaching in either whole or small group based on determining student need through end of unit assessment data. The units in HMH Into Reading offer a spiraling curriculum to ensure progress towards mastery of all standards within the school. The scope and sequence is explicit and systematic so units must be taught in the order they are presented. Within HMH Into Reading, grammar instruction is based on student need. In HMH Into Reading, grades 1-5, the last two units offer a genre study which provides a review of standards taught throughout the year. These units are optional and allow for reteaching of standards to mastery in Units 1-10. This document was created to best meet the instructional needs of all students in CCSD. The pacing was built from a 120 minute literacy block that will be in place in all buildings.
10 | Assessment | End of unit Fundations assessments are a vital part of monitoring student's growth in foundational skills. The tests are adminstered at the end of each unit. The data is entered in Illuminate and diagnostically used to provide reteaching, if needed, at the whole or small group level. Illuminate has a variety of powerful pre-built reports that support data-based decision making and family, school and community partnering about student progress. Teams of educators and individual teachers can use the data from these reports to determine what students know and are ready to learn next. For HMH Into Reading, teachers will adminster the HMH end of module assessements, edited to align with classroom instruction in order to measure progress towards grade level standards. HMH Into Reading offers a variety of assessments that can be utilized to progress monitor throughout the course of the module. These include exit tickets, end of week assessments, and selection quizzes.
