2
EmilyBackpacks/PackingEagle CreekPacking Cube (x2)YesGo with a bright color so they're easy to spot.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packit-cube/d/1321
3
EmilyBackpacks/PackingEagle CreekShoulder BagYesEagle Creek no longer sells the shoulder bag that we own, but the Guide Pro Courier look like a good option.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/guide-pro-courier-rfid/d/1316_c_411
4
EmilyClothingAdidasRunning ShortsYesWe each only brought one pair of running shorts. Sufficient for us, but we don't work out daily. (Emily doesn't work out weekly!)
5
EmilyClothingAmerican ApparelLivingSocial Logo TeeYesAs much as we love merino wool, it was nice to sleep in a cotton t-shirt. I live in these at home, but made it through the trip with just one.
6
EmilyClothingAnn Taylor LoftShort Cargo ShortsNoDidn't need these shorts; hardly wore 'em. Would have been fine with just the Salomon shorts.
7
EmilyClothingAnyJeansYesBring along your favorite pair of jeans. You'll wear them all the time.Anywhere
8
EmilyClothingArc'teryxStretch, Lightweight Fleece JacketYesUnfortunately, I lost this jacket in the last two weeks of the trip, which means I have no idea what model it was. Features I loved: lightweight fleece (perfect for cool summer nights), no hood, zipdown, big pockets, cozy material.http://arcteryx.com/ProductFind.aspx?language=EN&gender=Womens&category=Mid_Layer_and_Fleece
9
EmilyClothingBrooks BrothersGray merino wool cardiganYesIf I wanted to dress-up an Icebreaker tee, I'd just cover up with this sweater. Remember: Merino wool never smells and the gray color never shows dirt, i.e. I didn't wash this the entire trip. Yum.
10
EmilyClothingCalvin KleinSeductive Comfort Customized Lift BraYesBrought two of these. Like them at home; like them on the road. Just bring a few bras you love.
11
EmilyClothingCuddl DudsClimatesmart LeggingYesI sleep in long underwear, so I wore these almost daily. Great to wear under jeans in particularly cold locales, especially since we didn't have proper parkas.http://www.cuddlduds.com/women/layer-by-style/leggings/climatesmart-legging-7739.html
12
EmilyClothingExOfficioGIVE-N-GO Lacy Bikini (x4)YesAdore this underwear. Lightweight, simple to wash, dry in a few hours.http://www.exofficio.com/products/details/womens-give-n-go-lacy-bikini
13
EmilyClothingIcebreakerBike Ultralite Micro SockYesThiner than Icebreaker Multisport Cushion Micro Socks. A good choice.http://www.sierratradingpost.com/icebreaker-bike-ultralite-micro-socks-merino-wool-below-the-ankle-for-women~p~5922k/
14
EmilyClothingIcebreakerSF150 Shoreline Tech Tank TopNoDidn't love this tank top, but just like the other Icebreaker T's, you can wear it a few times before washing.
15
EmilyClothingIcebreakerSF150 Tech Toi Toi ShirtNoSize: Small. Color: Metro. I like this shirt, though because of the palm tree design, people think I'm sweating from my stomach when I wear it. A second Tech T would have been a better choice.http://www.sierratradingpost.com/icebreaker-sf150-tech-toi-toi-shirt-merino-wool-v-neck-short-sleeve-for-women~p~6026h/
16
EmilyClothingIcebreakerTech SS Scoop PohutukawaYesSize: Small. Color: Jet. Decent choice; a little dressier than my other topshttp://ca.icebreaker.com/en/tech-short-sleeve-scoop-pohutukawa/100355J02S.html
17
EmilyClothingIcebreakerTech-TeeYesSize: Medium. Color: Eggplant. LOVE this shirt. An absolute must for travelhttp://us.icebreaker.com/en/womens-tops/tech-t-lite-short-sleeve/100851F48L.html
18
EmilyClothingIcebreakerWomen's Multisport Cushion Micro Socks (x2)YesThese are wonder socks. Love.http://www.amazon.com/Icebreaker-Womens-Multisport-Cushion-Silver/dp/B00753FZEQ
19
EmilyClothingLululemonEnergy BraYesWhat an awesome sports bra!!! Got this in black. Love it. Absolutely worth the pricehttp://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/bras-light-support/Energy-Bra-32925?cc=14471&skuId=3548243&catId=bras-light-support
20
EmilyClothingMarmotWomen's Oasis Cargo SkortYesWas happy to have a skirt in hot weather and for nicer events. This is a fair choice, though the built in liner was a bit annoying.http://www.backcountry.com/marmot-oasis-cargo-skort-womens
21
EmilyClothingMossimoTank topYesJust a simple tank from Target. Could have done without this. One tank top would have been sufficienthttp://www.target.com/
22
EmilyClothingNikeWomen's Lunar GlideNoIt was nice to have running shoes, but not essential. I wore my Salomon Exit 2 Aero Women's Ultra Light Hiking Shoes far more often.
23
EmilyClothingOld NavyAnkle Strap SandalsYesGood for the beach and shared showers.http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=953968002&vid=1&locale=en_US&kwid=1&sem=false&sdReferer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oldnavy.com%2Fproducts%2Fwomens-flip-flops.jsp
24
EmilyClothingREIQuick-Dry PantsYes, with reservationsNot the greatest color or fit, but I love these pants (unfortunately discontinued). Super comfortable; dried in a few hours; good pockets. Do bring hiking pants, preferably a darker color. Green and khaki show oil stains / small spills, and both colors are hard to dress up. Next time, I'll take a black pair.
25
EmilyClothingSalomonBlack ShortsNoDo bring a pair of dark shorts, but find a pair you love. I bought these right before the trip without adequately testing them out and just didn't love the fit.
26
EmilyClothingSalomonExit 2 Aero Women's Ultra Light Hiking ShoeYesThis particular brand was discontinued, but I highly recommend bringing along a lightweight hiking shoe -- awesome on cobblestones in Europe and mountains in New Zealand. These were super breathable, so I was fine wearing them in really humid climates.
27
EmilyClothingSalomonTournette Shell JacketYesLoved the jacket, but but recommend buying the black version so it's easier to dress up.http://www.sierratradingpost.com/salomon-tournette-shell-jacket-waterproof-attached-hood-for-women~p~6361w/
28
EmilyClothingSea BandAnti-Nausea Wrist BandYesUsed these on ferries and a particularly bumpy boat ride in Thailand. Never had to use Dramamine, but we took just in case.http://usshop.sea-band.com/
29
EmilyClothingSmartwoolMidweight Long Sleeve CrewYesSize: Small. Color: Black. I didn't wear this a ton, but was happy to have it in cold climates.http://www.rei.com/product/834122/smartwool-midweight-crew-top-wool-womens
30
EmilyClothingTargetBikini Swimsuits (x2)YesIn retrospect, I really only needed one swimsuit. But in beach destinations, it was nice to have two so you'd always have a dry suit to put on.
31
EmilyClothingTargetSocks (x2)NoHardly wore them; Icebreakers are far superior
32
EmilyClothingVictoria's SecretBralettes (x2)YesCross between a regular bra and a sport's bra. Super comfortable and lightweight. Wore a lot in really hot weather. Only needed one. They look to have been discontinued.
33
EmilyMedicineAnyBirth control pills -- 9 mo supplyYesZero Income, NO KIDS (ZINK) Year!See your doctor
34
EmilyMedicineGenericXanexYesI don't step on a plane without these. My one major phobia is flying; these little wonder drugs take the edge off.
35
EmilyMisc GearAnySmall Notebook (x2), Pen (x2), HighlighterYesNo brainer.Anywhere
36
EmilyMisc GearCocoonHyperlite PillowYesComfortable and folds away into near nothing.http://www.rei.com/product/799192/cocoon-hyperlite-pillow
37
EmilyMisc GearN/AFix-It Kit (Duct Tape, Rubber Bands, Paper Clips)YesWrap duct tape around an old plastic gift card, wrap rubber bands around the gift card, attach paper clips on the outer edges of the gift card.DIY
38
EmilyToiletriesAnyHair TiesYesI wore my hair in a ponytail everyday of the trip. I used a TON of these.
39
EmilyToiletriesAnyMakeupNoI hardly wore makeup. Maybe eyeliner and some concealer every now and again, but I think a ZINK Year should be makeupless.
40
EmilyToiletriesAnyNail ClippersYesIf you use one at home, you'll need one on the road
41
EmilyToiletriesAnyTamponsYesBrought a dozen or so travel-sized tampons. You can replenish on the road.Anywhere
42
PattenBackpacks/PackingEagle CreekPacking CubeYesGo with a bright color so they're easy to spot.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packit-cube/d/1321
43
PattenClothingAnyJeansYesThey're heavy, they don't breathe especially well, but they're comfortable.Anywhere
44
PattenClothingArc'teryxButton Down Shirt - Long-SleeveYesArc'teryx discontinued the model, and I can't find a comparable alternative.
45
PattenClothingArc'teryxCaptive Polo SSYesSize: Medium. Color: Plum Grey. The shirt's collar provided a dressier option for nights out. Dries fast. Preforms well on the trail.http://arcteryx.com/product.aspx?language=EN&gender=Mens&category=Shirts_and_Tops&model=Captive-Polo-SS
46
PattenClothingArc'teryxShorts (x2)YesArc'teryx discontinued the model, and I can't find a comparable alternative.
47
PattenClothingBrooksEssential Run Short 5"YesLoved these shorts. Included an elastic waistband with internal key/I.D. pocket (good idea to carry I.D. when running), liner for dry comfort, rear zip pocket is big enough to hold cash and a snackhttp://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/5%22-essential-run-short/210275979.025.html#start=27
48
PattenClothingChacoZ1 ColoradoNoLove Chacos, but they're a bit too heavy for an around the world trip. Probably would have been better of with a pair of Luna Sandals. Good for the beach, walking around town, and shared showers.http://www.lunasandals.com/collections/lunas
49
PattenClothingExofficioGive-N-Go Boxers (x4)YesShuns stink and easy to wash.http://www.exofficio.com/products/details/mens-give-n-go-boxer
50
PattenClothingFaconnableSwim TrunksNoSwimming in running shorts would have worked just fine.
51
PattenClothingIcebreakerRun+ Ultra Lite Micro Sock (x3)YesAgain, same merino wool as the Icebreaker Tech Ts, same extended usage. The Run+ Ultralight Micro Sock is great if going for a run. In hindsight, I would have purchased two pair vs. three and purchased two Multisport Cushion Micro 4” socks (they're thicker and will provide all day, on your feet comfort).http://us.icebreaker.com/en/womens-socks/run%2B-ultra-lite-micro/IBNE99G39S.html
52
PattenClothingIcebreakerTech T (x2)YesSize: Medium. Color: Stealth and Cricket. Made from 100% merino wool, the Tech Ts regulate your body temp, look fairly stylish, and are easy to wash. We can wear these shirts for four to five days in dry climates, or two to three days in a hot and sticky Singapore. I have two Tech T’s, a black and a green. If buying only one, I’d recommend the black – it looks a little dressier when we go out at night.http://us.icebreaker.com/en/greatest_tshirt?prefn1=gender&prefv1=Mens
53
PattenClothingMarmotAlpinist 1/2 ZipNoWould have preferred to have a full zip fleece for ease of use. The Marmot Alpinist Tech Jacket would have worked much better.http://marmot.com/products/details/alpinist-tech-jacket
54
PattenClothingMarmotPreCip JacketYesInexpensive option that worked well.http://marmot.com/products/details/precip-jacket-new
55
PattenClothingMossimoMen's Short Sleeve Crew Neck TeeNoThis shirt was intended for sleeping, but in hindsight I would have taken another Icebreaker Tech T (In my opinion, unlike Emily's, merino is just as comfortable as cotton).
56
PattenClothingNikePegasus 29 Running ShoeNoStaying in shape on the road is time well spent. The better choice would have been the Salomon XR Mission. Light, lots of cushion, and good grip. If running isn't your thing, go with a black hiking shoe (black is easier to dress up).http://www.salomon.com/us/product/xr-mission.html
57
PattenClothingPacsafeWalletsafe 50 Compact WalletYesThe Walletsafe 50 keeps shifty hands at bay with a safety chain that attaches to a belt loop. It’s small enough to wear in a front pocket and features a convenient inner cash/credit card divider and external coin pocket. An added benefit of the chain is that it prevents you from misplacing the wallet along the way.http://www.pacsafe.com/walletsafe-50-compact-wallet-3.html
58
PattenClothingPranaStretch Zion PantsYesGreat material. Somehow worked as well in cold weather as they did in warm. In hindsight, should have purchased a darker color than khaki.http://www.prana.com/stretch-zion-pant.html?color=darkkhaki
59
PattenClothingSmartwoolCasual Socks (x2)YesReally only needed one pair of tall socks.http://www.smartwool.com/socks/casual.html?gender=9914
60
PattenClothingSmartwoolLow Medium Weight SocksNoSmartwool discontinued the model, and I can't find a comparable alternative.
61
PattenClothingSmartwoolNTS Base Layer Bottoms 250 MidweightNoThe 250's were a little too thick. The NTS Micro 150 Lightweight would have been a better choice.http://www.smartwool.com/clothing/baselayers/mens-nts-micro-150-bottom.html
62
PattenClothingSmartwoolPhD Cycle Ultra Light Micro SockNoPoor choice. I'm sure they're great for cycling, but they were uncomfortable for running. If looking for a running sock, go with the Icebreaker Run+ Ultra Lite Micro.http://us.icebreaker.com/en/womens-socks/run%2B-ultra-lite-micro/IBNE99G39S.html
63
PattenMisc GearAnySunglass CaseYesGood idea when moving from one city to the next.Anywhere
64
PattenMisc GearEagle CreekAll Terrain Money BeltYesAll plastic and nylon means you'll never have to remove the belt when going through airport security. The hidden money pouch guarantees you'll always have money should you forget your wallet or should someone steal your wallet (crooks will never think to look in your belt).http://shop.eaglecreek.com/all-terrain-money-belt/d/1122_c_312
65
PattenMisc GearEagle CreekSandman Travel PillowNoWould have preferred the Eagle Creek 2-In-1 Travel Pillow.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/2in1-travel-pillow/d/1264
66
PattenMisc GearEagle CreekSilk Undercover Money Waist BeltNoPacked it but it was never used. Used the Pacsafe Walletsafe 50 Compact Wallet instead.http://www.pacsafe.com/walletsafe-50-compact-wallet-3.html
67
PattenMisc GearLeathermanStyle PSYesSpace in our bags is sacred, so in lieu of carrying multiple tools, we opted for the all-in-one, yet still bare bones, light as can be, Leatherman Style PS, including spring-action pliers, file, scissors, tweezers, mini-screwdriver, and my favorite, the bottle opener. We used every tool at least once a week and one tool specifically a little too often (like the beer). Note for the wise: On two occasions in Japan and Turkey, we nearly had the Style PS confiscated by over anxious security guards simply because it looked like it should have a knife, despite having pointed out repeatedly that it didn’t (a fair bit of pleading won out in both cases). Since you’re more than likely going to going check your bag anyway, we’d recommend storing it there vs. carrying it on the plane.http://www.leatherman.com/831488.html
68
PattenToiletriesAnyContact Case (x2)YesBring an extra case along in case you lose one.Anywhere
69
PattenToiletriesAnyContact Lense Solution (x4)YesPick up travel sized bottles in the travel section of your local drug store (easier to pack vs. a big bottle). Contact solution can be difficult to find in lesser developed counties like Vietnam.Anywhere
70
PattenToiletriesAnyContactsYesTake more than you think you should. Take a prescription along and email it to yourself.Anywhere
71
PattenToiletriesAnyEyeglassesYesGood back up if you're unable to wear contacts due to an eye infection.Anywhere
72
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingALOKSAKWaterproof/Sandproof Bags (x3 various sizes)NoWe used the Loksaks to carry toiletries and electronics. Considering the high cost and that one of the bags broke at the seal, the better solution is Ziplock Double Guard Freezer Bags Gallon Size.http://www.ziploc.com/Products/Pages/DoubleGuardFreezerBags.aspx
73
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingEagle CreekPack-It Compression Sac - LargeYesWe didn't use the bag as much as I expected, but we did occasionally use it to carry dirty clothes while traveling between cities.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packit-compression-sac-large/d/1064
74
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingEagle CreekToiletry KitYesEagle Creek no longer sells the toiletry bag that we took, but the Pack-It Specter Quick Trip looks legit.http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packit-specter-quick-trip/d/1245
75
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingLewis N. ClarkTSA Cable Lock 2 Pack (x2)YesWe recommend one lock for each bag and two extra in case you lose some.http://www.amazon.com/Lewis-N-Clark-Cable-Size/dp/B000WB1FGK/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1404520921&sr=1-2&keywords=tsa+locks+for+luggage
76
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingN/ALuggage Tags (laminated) (x5)YesWe made these laminated cards ourselves instead of buying them (measure 2.5"x1") and attached them to all pieces of luggage (backpacks, shoulder bags, electronics bag). Included the phrase "if lost, please contact:", then our names, phone number, and joint email address.DIY
77
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingOspreyOsprey Meridian 22 Rolling Backpack (x2)YesWe recommend going with the metal grey (hides dirt well and blends in with the crowd as not to draw unwanted attention).http://www.ospreypacks.com/en/product/convertible_wheeled_packs/meridian_2260l
78
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingOspreyRaincover for Osprey Meridian 22 (x2)Yes, with reservationsUnfortunately, Osprey doesn't make a raincover for the Meridian 22. We reached out to Think Tank Photo and tied to purchase a raincover for the similarly sized Airport Security V2.0 Rolling Camera Bag. Unable to sell, they sent us two for free. The raincovers aren't a great fit for the Meridian 22's, but kept us dry in a few instances.http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/airport-security-v2-roller-camera-bag.aspx
79
Patten and EmilyBackpacks/PackingPacsafeRetractasafe 250 4-dial Retractable Cable LockYesIt's not the easiest to use piece of equiptment we own, but we were happy to have it once at a train station in a storage room (and on a train!) and in a few sketchy hotel rooms.http://www.pacsafe.com/retractasafe-250-retractable-cable-lock-3.html
80
Patten and EmilyClothingAnySunglasses (x2)YesSunglasses are so easy to lose, you're probably best buying something cheap.Anywhere
81
Patten and EmilyClothingAnyWatch (x2)YesNo reason to get too complicated here. We were totally happy with a cheap Timex Ironman and a Casio.Anywhere
82
Patten and EmilyClothingAnyWool Sweater (x2)YesIf traveling in Fall, Spring or Winter, you'll appreciate having a light merino wool sweater.Anywhere
83
Patten and EmilyClothingBuffHeadwear (x2)YesWe love products that have multiple uses. The Buff protected our necks from the sun and kept our heads and necks warm in the cold.http://www.buffusa.com/sports/collections/filter/original
84
Patten and EmilyClothingSmartwoolLiner Glove (x2)YesThin enough to not take up too much space. They touchscreen technology worked well with our iPhones in cold weather.http://www.smartwool.com/accessories/casual-gloves/liner-glove.html
85
Patten and EmilyClothing RelatedDylonConcentrated Travel WashNoThere's really no reason to invest in expensive travel wash. Instead use free shower gel and shampoo provided by hotels.NA
86
Patten and EmilyClothing RelatedGoing In StyleTravel Laundry Clothesline & Sink StopperYesYou will wash clothes in your sink many times. A good clothesline is essential since most hotel rooms don't have many hangers or drying space. We didn't always have a need for the sink stopper, but there were a few bad drain plugs where this came in handy.http://www.amazon.com/Going-In-Style-Clothesline-GIS-C103/dp/B00COU63TQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1404502398&sr=1-2&keywords=sink+stopper+travel
87
Patten and EmilyDocumentationAAADrivers Licenses (international and domestic)YesPick up an international driver's license from your local AAA for $15USD. We needed it in Europe a few times when renting cars. Also, many rental car companies don't require an international driver's license but the police do (if you're pulled over), maybe b/c they don't speak/read English. The international driver's license simply translates you're English license into muliple languages. Make a copy and email to yourself.http://www.aaa.com/vacation/idpf.html
88
Patten and EmilyDocumentationBased On Home CountryPassportsYesMake sure to make multiple copies of your passport and place them in different pieces of luggage (in case your passport is stolen). Also, email a copy to yourself.Based on home country
89
Patten and EmilyDocumentationN/AAll In One Info Card (Immunization Records, Emergency Contacts, and Insurance Plan Details Card) (x3)YesIf you don't have an up-to-date yellow card, track down all the immunizations you've ever had, type them up and laminate it at your local printer. You'll want to use Excel for this task. Our end product was a 3.5"x5.5" laminated card. On one side list all immunizations for yourself and your travel companion, the year of immunization, the city and state of immunization, your blood type, and allergies. On the other side list all emergency contacts (name, relation, phone number, country, and email). On the same side list you insurance plan details (provider, plan name, ID#, group#, policy#, contact phone number) and passport number. When finished, email all info to yourself.DIY
90
Patten and EmilyDocumentationN/AExtra Passport PhotosYesIt's a good idea to have extra photos for arrival visas or... in case you lose your passport. You may need extra photos depending on the countries you plan to visit. We each needed 2 photos for our Myanmar visa.Anywhere

94
Patten and EmilyElectronicsAnyCanon G10 Camera Carrying CaseYesThe Canon G10 I took had one major flaw. Small bits of dirt can find their way behind the lens (sometimes visible in pics). A good carrying case will minimize exposure to dirt.Anywhere
95
Patten and EmilyElectronicsAnyEthernet CordNoWe brought two ethernet cords. The retractable version was a better option.Anywhere
96
Patten and EmilyElectronicsAnyExtension CordYesOutlets are almost never located in a convenient spot. An six foot extension cord solves that.Anywhere
97
Patten and EmilyElectronicsAnyPlug AdaptorsYesChose the adapter type based on the countries you plan to visit. If your itinerary plans change, adaptors are easy to find anywhere while traveling.Anywhere
98
Patten and EmilyElectronicsAnyUSB ExtenderNoNever found a use for it.
