Using Guiding Questions from California’s History-Social Science Framework
2
3
In order to support your implementation of California’s new History-Social Science Framework, the California History-Social Science Project (CHSSP), the primary writers of the Framework, have developed this easy to use planning tool, organized by grade level, topic, and related questions directly from the Framework narrative.

Directions:
5
1.       Select the appropriate grade level tab from the bottom of the workbook.
6
2.       Most worksheets include both course-level questions and unit level questions, which can be used as an organizational structure for your unit organization and your day-to-day lesson plans. These historically significant questions provide teachers with a criteria for selecting primary and secondary sources and focus student attention to study in their investigations. Select one or more of these questions to organize each unit of study.
7
3.       In addition to the questions listed in the second column from the Framework, write down your existing materials, list any relevant primary and secondary sources that can help your students investigate the period, and highlight key events, people, or trends that you want to be sure to include in this topic.
8
4.       In the final column, you may wish to align the CCSS and ELD Standards once you've selected resources. This will help you, your department, and your administrator recognize the important connections between documents. Moreoever, this will demonstrate the four key areas of focus in your daily planning: content, skills, literacy, and citizenship.
