1	Instructions for contributing data to the UCLA Law COVID-19 Behind Bars Data Project

3	1.	Confirm that we are not already collecting the data you have
4		If we are already collecting this data, we want to save you some time and effort!

6		Check: Does the facility/facilities you're seeking to add already exist? Search for the facility name on state-specific pages on our website: https://uclacovidbehindbars.org/
7		Check: Does the facility exist in our data but hasn't been recently updated? Search for the facility name on our names crosswalk: https://github.com/uclalawcovid19behindbars/facility_data/blob/master/data_sheets/fac_spellings.csv

9	2A.	Make a copy of this spreadsheet and share it with us

11		Click File > "Make a copy", and rename the document according to the data you're collecting.
12		Share the document with us via email (addresses below). In your email, let us know what name we should use when citing your contributions to our project.

14	2B.	Add data
15		Update it as new numbers are reported by adding rows to the "Data" sheet.

17		Fill in the columns in the "Data" tab. Required columns are highlighted in orange. It is very likely that you will not be able to gather every single column in the sheet. That is totally fine! Just fill out data for what information you have access to. Find an example of how to fill out the spreadsheet on the "Example data" tab.

19		Please keep the "Name" column consistent over time, even if a reporting agency refers to it differently over time. For example, if "Milwaukee County Jail" and "Mlwke Cnty Jail" are both referring to the same entity, please stick with the same spelling over time.
