The solidarity to re-imagine a feminist Internet and the learn wicked skills to decolonise and make a significant transformation. I learnt how to code and met an amazing comunity of feminist warriors. Feel.so inspired and super energised and knowledgeable :)
Have more time for the skills share rather than have break out groups for e.g codng, or wikiwomen etc let everyone have a chance to experience all 3
Didn't attend FUFAfrica 2022 unfortunately

I learnt a new skill - to edit a Wikipedia page. I was a guest on Len's podcast. I met new people and I look forward to collaborating with them. I was appreciative of how generous everyone was with their knowledge. I was inspired by the genuine care, empathy, creativity and wisdom at DTI. I was energised to continue contributing to changing the world because I saw a different frontier of resistance and freedom - the internet. I have a better understanding of what decolonising the internet means and my role in the process.
I was reflecting with my sister on how it must've been a hurdle to get everyone together. So, Big Up yourselves as organizers for that. I felt safe in my environment and enriched by revolutionary girl talk. Perhaps if possible, next time we could get direct flights. Those layovers were not giving.
Confused?Yes
To be bold and open myself up to collaboration and networks. At FIFA, I partnered with Natasha Simma to showcase my book, got a shout-out from Rosebelle Kagumire, and I connected with many other artists in the digital space too. Although I thought FIFA as an event to be superfluous. I didn't fully grasp the role of that conference, besides a networking opportunity, but it's good to be around different opinions and world views to enrich one's arguements.
Yes
To have a longer time for practical sessions. Like for coding, uploading picture on Wikimedia commons, editing Wikipedia pages, or any other practical activity relevant to practice of transforming the internet. I enjoyed the craft sessions!

I was able to understand the impact of modern day colonization and the key roles I can play or contribute towards Decolonizing The Internet.
Nothing! Everything on my end was very intentional and pretty organized and it was humbling to be in such a space.
Excited!Yes
The state of democracy in Africa and effects of a colonized internet hinder a free internet across Africa. What stood out for me at FIFA after DTI was the potential we have for a better internet that's safe and for us all.

It was a great eye opener. DTI-EA empowered me with knowledge and more understanding of how the internet works and how the infrastructure is set, and more importantly where I stand not just as a development worker but as a female -in the scheme of things. The biggest takeaway for me was the capacity building on the tools that are within my reach/control/ownership through which I can use to make women more visible. I absolutely appreciated content creation via Wiki Media and the sessions that helped us define strategies of how we want to move on.
I would have appreciated more time on the sessions for Coding and Content Creation.

I went into FIFAfrica 2022 with a better voice as a feminist and as a development enthusiast who is trying to use digital for development. I was able to frame better my efforts at connecting last mile communities with development information. Having attended DTI, I was better able to contribute in the discussions on OGBV. I met a lot of new connections, some of whom are opening doors to exciting opportunities.

Extremely an eye opening event. I am in the process of looking out for people to partner with and start up a campaign to introduce coding in schools.

First of all, thank you so much Femnet and Whose Knowledge for according to me an opportunity to share space with incredible women. Since our shared space, I have been pondering a lot on what exactly we mean by decolonizing the internet. More especially with my work in Community Networks that promote connecting the unconnected, the conference helped me to look at how in our efforts to bridge the digital divide we can encourage the community to reimagine the online space. The community is part of contributing knowledge that is of them by them and for them. The workshop enabled me to learn about Wikimedia. Now, this is great as we are currently leading a training and mentorship program for community networks in Kenya and one of our priority areas is local content. I see Wikimedia as a great resource for documenting local content. Big shout out to Kelly and Alice who have supplied me with Wikimedia resources as well as Wikimedia contacts in Kenya who we are exploring with a potential partnership
The event was a very warm homely space that made me comfortable even though I was meeting everyone for the first time. This to me is the definition of a safer space and I will be borrowing some good practices when holding spaces at the grassroots level. I propose maybe a longer convening so that we can delve deeper into understanding efforts and strategies that we can implement individually and as a collective in Decolonising the Internet.
I would suggest also we can have the breakout sessions on Wikimedia as general sessions to understand all the ways one can contribute as a Wikimedia. Otherwise, the workshop was perfect!

I was part of a panel discussion on "bridging the digital gender divide through grassroots last mile connectivity" where we highlighted how to DTI in terms of technology (Technology colonialism) and content (local content to curb overconsumption of foreign content and giving women a safe space to talk about issues that are important to them without fear of cyber violence or stereotyping. What stood out was how to decolonize Technology, by getting women involved in reimaging the kind of online space that they want because this eventually trickles down to the rest of the community.
I was able to network with potential partners as well as challenged to explore more collaborations on movement building for communities for a greater course
YesTHANK YOU!
