Question 8: What did your instructor do well in helping you to learn? For example, you might consider any of the following: the overall course design; the instructorís willingness to help in office hours or over email; particular assignments, activities, or discussions; choosing helpful course materials such as readings; lectures, etc.
61
Daniel always offered incisive discussion topics for our recitations as well as worked with students during a strange time.
62
Happy to respond to emails, accommodating and was very understanding. Good discussion in weekly recitations as well.
63
Having students read readings and articles as well as watch video lectures before discussing the content in class.
64
He was available and compliant when it came to responding to emails and questions. He was understanding of others concerns and schedules.
65
In recitation, he did an excellent job of re-iterating what the students learned over the week and embraced the idea of interpersonal discussion rather than having essentially another lecture.

Taking every answer and improving it to make everyone feel comfortable with sharing
68
Was very nice and clear during recitations

70
Question 12: If you would nominate your course faculty or graduate teaching instructor for a teaching excellence award, please explain why.
71
allows for everyone to talk and answer questions without the feeling of getting shamed
72
Being there on time for each recitation
73
Daniel worked hard to make sure we had what we needed to do our best.
74
Did very well with the discussions and overall as a TA, especially considering the switch to entirely online
75
I really appreciate the idea of interpersonal discussion so that students can interact with each other as they learn.
76
I would nominate Daniel because he cared about his students. He was attentive and was there to answer questions and concerns
77
Made the content very understandable. The content was interesting, I think everyone could find something about this class that they find interesting, and the instructors helped make the content understandable.

Question 17: What would you suggest to enhance student learning in this course? These suggestions might include changes you would like to see, or assignments for which clearer guidelines would have helped, but they could also be additional assignments, activities, or course materials, etc., that you think would be valuable for the objectives of the course.
81
Asychronous classes are not conducive to effective learning.
82
I feel like the class was pretty work loaded. Maybe try to lessen how much time we need to spend on learning content. I also wish that some of the work that needed to be done after recitation (normally Friday) were allowed to be worked on during the weekday before recitation (like the quizzes). I feel that I worked on class work a lot more than I wanted to over the weekends.
83
i wouldn't change anything honestly
84
It would be more effective to have the final project be collaborative.
85
Maybe some clearer guidelines on the creative writings.
86
N/A I feel that this course was perfectly organized and well-provided. Therefore I don't think there could be changes to enhance student learning.
87

88
reduce the amounts of creative writings, they didn't help with understand at all
89
The old history sections in the beginning of the class were very boring to me, but in the end it got much more interesting. Maybe add more interesting stuff earlier in the class, but that's entirely my opinion.
90
91

93
i am very interested in the samurai class so that whole section was very interesting
94
I learned about Van Gogh's art tying into Edo Japan because I was unaware of that originally.
95
I was very interested in learning more about the pop culture aspect of Asia. It was important that I understand current pop culture of Asia better so that I could relate with other people with some sort of background from that region of the world.
96
Learned about the history of Asia and how it connects with the world
97
Manga was interesting.
