Notes on the data
2
3
Trusts which made minor changes to their name over the five-year period, such as gaining foundation status, have been treated as the same body.
4
Trusts which went through splits, mergers or other major changes have been treated as separate bodies.
5
6
The 'ranking' of trusts by size of historic payouts should be treated with caution, as individual cases can involve very large payouts.
7
8
For England, payouts of less then £5,000 a year were not detailed in the original NHS Resolution data and are marked by an asterisk.
