An entire football field. According to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to get into a "safety-critical event." The purpose of this scholarship is to help you understand the risks of texting while driving. NC State Goodnight ScholarshipOctober 15thThe Goodnight Scholars Program was created to assist low- and middle-income families in North Carolina with the financial obligations of college, while providing enriching and meaningful programming to prepare them for successful careers in STEM and STEM education.

Students selected to join the Goodnight Scholars Program receive a four-year scholarship valued at $19,500 per year ($78,000 total). Once selected, students are able to receive additional funding by applying for enrichment grants through the Goodnight Scholars Program that can be used towards study abroad, unpaid internships, entrepreneurial endeavors, and other personal or professional development opportunities.

Cheatham-White Scholarship -- NC A&TOctober 23rdThe Cheatham-White Scholarship is a new scholarship being established for the Fall 2018 as a merit scholarship program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and North Carolina Central University to provide an outstanding educational experience for students who are exceptional scholars, versatile and well-rounded individuals. Cheatham-White Scholars will represent students with a broad range of interests, proficient in areas of both the arts and sciences, demonstrate leadership potential and a strong commitment to service.

To be eligible for nomination as a potential Cheatham-White Scholarship candidate, a person must satisfy all of the following criteria:

a) Be a competitive applicant for admission as a freshman
in the fall semester into a baccalaureate program at North

Golden Door ScholarshipOctober 25thThis scholarship is available to high achieving Seniors who qualify for DACA. Scholarship recipients will receive funding to cover full tuition, room and board for a four-year degree at Golden Door partner schools (Queens University, Davidson College, Guilford College, Salem College, Wake Forest, Wingate, Wofford, Oberlin, Tufts, Rhodes College, Meredith, Agnes Scott, Emory, Lehigh, and Hamilton College).

Applicants must qualify for DACA. Students who have applied to or are interested in other colleges should also apply. All applications are due by midnight on October 25th, 2018. High school Seniors and graduates who have not completed a 4-year degree are eligible to apply. Brown through a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. RBSP competitively awards Ron Brown Scholars four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship.

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation ScholarshipNovember 20thThis foundation will select up to 40 recipients nationwide, for a scholarship worth up to $30,000 per year. UNCG Teaching Fellows ProgramJanuary 1st, 2019This program awards a $20,000.00 scholarship distributed incrementally over four years of study at UNCG. In addition to scholarships, the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Program includes a variety of other benefits, including integrated seminars, networking events, community engagement opportunities, and leadership development. Fellows also live in relative proximity to one another as part of the Residential Colleges or Lloyd International Honors College. Additionally, Fellows study abroad during their sophomore year as part of the global focus of the program.

To be eligible for participation in the UNCG Teacher Education Fellows Program, a student must be a North Carolina resident, have at least a 3.80 cumulative high school GPA, and have a minimum SAT score of 1100 (verbal and math) or ACT composite score of 24.

Potential Students must also plan to major in education.

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay ContestJanuary 4thThe Profile in Courage Essay Contest invites High School Students to write an original and creative essay that demonstrates an understanding of political courage as described by John F. Kennedy in "Profiles in Courage".

The essay should be on the followin topic: "Describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F. Kennedy was born. Include an analysis of the obstacles, risks, and consequences associated with the act. The essay may concern an issue at the local, state, national, or international level."

GE-Reagan Foundation ScholarshipJanuary 4thThe GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program annually awards 20 college-bound students with a $10,000 renewable ($40,000 total) scholarship.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholars candidates must:
- Demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
- Demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
- Demonstrate financial need as determined by Scholarship Management Services;
- Be citizens of the United States of America;

NC State Teaching Fellows ScholarshipJanuary 7thHigh School Seniors who are interested in teaching in one of the STEM fields or in Special Education can apply for up to $8,250 in scholarship money through the NC State Teaching Fellows Scholarship.

Minimum Academic Requirements:
* High school applicants or applicants with fewer than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and have scored at least a 24 on the ACT or a 1,100 on the SAT.
* Applicants with more than 24 hours of college credit must have a minimum of a 2.7 cumulative GPA.
* Be willing to teach in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or special education licensure area in a North Carolina public school, traditional or charter.

SECU Bridge To Career ProgramJanuary 14thThe State Employees Credit Union Foundation has established the SECU Bridge to Career Program.

With a focus on getting students the training and skills they need to obtain wage-sustaining employment, Central Carolina Community College has defined career pathways for Health Sciences (Nurse Assistant I, Cardiovascular Monitor Technician, and Phlebotomy) and Advanced Manufacturing Short-term Career Training (Forklift Training with OSHA10, MIG welding & AWS Qualification, and Bioworks Process Technician). Career pathway students are eligible to be awarded up to three scholarships within the program year when taking scholarship eligible courses within the pathway.

To be considered for this scholarship program, a student or prospective student must:
* Be a U.S. citizen and a North Carolina resident.
* Be enrolled in one of up to three career pathways defined training programs that lead to a sustaining wage career and register to one of the scholarship eligible courses in that pathway that lead to a state-regulated or industry-recognized credential.
* Be part of one of the following target groups: unemployed or underemployed, members of the NC National Guard, military veterans and spouses, or underserved populations in a specific workforce sector or area.
* Be enrolled in a short-term training course 96-hours or more that leads to a state-regulated or industry-recognized credential aligned to a sustaining wage career and that is offered through Continuing Education.
* Not be a Director, employee, or family member of an employee of the State Employees’ Credit Union or SECU Foundation.
* Preference will be given to those students with limited or no access to financial aid from other programs.

Meredith College STEM ScholarshipsJanuary 15thSTEM scholarships at Meredith provide a unique opportunity for talented students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Meredith offers two STEM scholarships for girls; AWE-STEM and Paschal. You can apply for both using this single application.

The Advancing Women’s Education in STEM (AWE-STEM) Scholars receive a $4,500 scholarship per year, renewable for up to eight semesters or as appropriate for the student’s degree plan. The award is need and merit-based. Recipients must submit the FAFSA annually and demonstrate a minimum $4,500 in financial need to be considered for AWE-STEM Scholarship.

Paschal Scholars receive a $500 scholarship per year, renewable for up to eight semesters or as appropriate for the student’s degree plan. The award is based on academic credentials and potential for success at Meredith. Submission of the FAFSA is not required.

Air Force ROTC ScholarhipJanuary 17Applicants must either be a United States citizen or obtain U.S. citizenship by the last day of the first term of their freshman year (for four-year offers) or the first term of sophomore year (for three-year offers). Applicants must pass a Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) medical exam. Applicants will either be scheduled to take the physical exam at the nearest military base or be sent to a designated civilian contractor.
