We are in need of 1,500 Chromebook computers to provide computers for students who lack a sufficient device to participate in remote learning activities. 1,234 students in grades K, 1, and 2 require a district issued device for secure access to ACS educational programs. Without ECF to provide funding for these devices, students in our district would not be able to participate in remote learning. Furthermore, 266 middle and high school students also require a connected device due to their current devices being end-of-life and no longer supported which poses a significant security risk.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Chickasaw Middle School and Chickasaw High School had four class sets of computers. The teachers had to check these computers out and share them across periods. There were two computer labs for the business technology students. Chickasaw Elementary School had three computer labs school-wide. The students had a scheduled time in which to attend these labs. The broadband connection provided was at the school. During the pandemic, the district did not provide internet connection at home. The district did purchase devices for the middle and high school. If the student did not have an internet connection at home during the pandemic, the student was provided a paper packet. All elementary students worked off of paper packets. At the beginning of the school year, the district distributed 508 devices to Chickasaw Middle and High School Students. Of the 508 devices, 229 were returned. The 251 devices in Chickasaw Elementary School were not distributed since there wasn't enough devices for every student. The detailed inventory spreadsheet is attached with student and teacher names removed. A parent survey was conducted, but there was very little participation from the community.

ServicesContractIVS, INC DBA ANGELTRAX
The Lawrence County School District is requesting high capacity, commercial cellular modems to install on its 40 remaining busses along with one year of AT&T Internet access for the modems and an additional one year of AT&T Internet service to renew the Internet service on the district's other 40 busses that already have the commercial modems. These modems and Internet service are capable of simultaneously providing an internet connection to 50 or more people per modem. The busses with the modems and service will be available to students while being transported and also to students who do not have broadband at home and wish to come to locations where the busses will be parked so they can access the broadband and do schoolwork.

LEAD Academy is requesting ECF funding to purchase devices that will allow remote learning. At the beginning of the pandemic Arise Schools had a program in place that would allow students and faculty to take devices off campus on as need basis. The program utilized older devices from the school inventory. Some of these devices are older than 18 months and do not meet the technical requirements for the 21-22 school year.

With the devices we purchased with CARES I funds we purchased a Chromebook for our teachers to use for remote learning and in the classroom. After the end of the 2020-2021 school year, we had several devices that were returned to us either broken beyond repair or not returned at all. Therefore, we are having to utilize older, out-of-date devices to cover the shortages in devices for students this year. This ECF funding will allow us to purchase a dedicated teacher/administrator device for mobility in the classroom and for remote learning. The devices that have been allocated for teachers and administrators will then be used to fill that gap in device numbers for students to maintain our 1:1 program and ensure equity of devices across our 14 school sites and with all K-12 students.
