Licensure Minimum Eligibility Requirements
All DCPS teachers need a valid teaching credential (license), issued by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), but we are aware that many candidates will not have their OSSE-issued credential upon applying for a position. Read this though to make sure you meet our minimum eligibility requirements.

Praxis Resources One PagerFor applicants seeking an Initial Credential to teach in DC, the required exams are the Praxis CORE (reading, writing, and math) and the Praxis II subject content exam. Here you will find key information to help you prepare to take and pass the necessary exams to receive a teaching credential in DC.

Reciprocity - Credential Holders from Other StatesIf you hold valid full credentials in another state in the same or comparable area of the DC teaching credential, you may qualify for a District credential if you meet the requirements found here.
