OngoingSprouts Culinary Program in SF (PAID INTERNSHIP)The Chef-in-Training Internship Program in the SF teaches teens them essential restaurant industry skills as they cook alongside some of the best chefs in the California Bay Area, right inside their restaurants. This internship gives young adults 16 to 24 years-old the opportunity to gain real-time, real-life, hands-on experience while receiving a stipend for their work. Chef-in-Training (CIT) Interns work two, 8-hour shifts each week, mastering skills such as pastas, starters and salads, desserts, prep, and grill. They check in weekly with a Sprouts’ advisor and their mentor chef in order to record and monitor their progress and maximize their potential in the program. Post-graduation, they receive job search coaching to increase their chances of landing a sustainable job in the restaurant industry.

The Peer Educators are a group of students who learn leadership and community action skills and participate in various community-based activities under the guidance of a Casa CHE health educator. The program stemmed from the enthusiasm of students participating in the Casa en Las Escuelas program, who, when the school year ended, wanted to continue their work with Casa CHE. They assist in outreach at La Clínica events, conduct peer education sessions in the schools, conduct needs assessments and community action plans.

Meetings take place twice a week at the Clinica de la Raza site. Students who participate in the program also acquire a substantial amount of community service and build leadership.

Lift A Brother Up is a career development program focused on 11th-12th grade, male youth currently attending Oakland high schools. Application Opens in OctoberBay Area Youth EMT ProgramOur goal is to create civic-minded EMTs and firefighters who are willing to apply their newly learned skills to community based programs as well as in local EMS and fire agencies.

BAY EMT is able to offer these programs through a collaborative effort with Merritt Community College. The instruction is designed with an emphasis on improving study habits, test taking abilities and community awareness. The curriculum is expanded to include basic information on U.S. history, politics, government and current events. All students are required to participate in volunteer events that are scheduled by the program. BAY EMT partners with local non-profits, churches, and community organizations to provide these volunteer opportunities.

The 18 to 24 age range is optimal, however students ages 17 may be accepted if space permits.

Successful completion of the programs results in certification, the courses are 4 months in length, job placement is based on the desire of the applicant to seek employment. Cost varies from student to student.

Application due beginning of MarchCaminos al Futuro- Free Summer program at George Washington University.Caminos al Futuro is a fully-funded summer scholarship program that engages high-achieving juniors (rising seniors) from U.S. high schools in a residential academic leadership development program at the George Washington University. The program application is open to students who currently reside in the U.S., including, but not limited to, U.S. citizens. Students who are here on a sponsored visa are ineligible.
Students currently enrolled in their junior year (rising seniors) are eligible to apply. Admission to the program is competitive and space is limited. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance and record of service and leadership within Hispanic or Latinx communities. All selected students will receive a full scholarship that covers roundtrip transportation to Washington, D.C., and the cost of attendance.

We welcome 35-40 high 11th grade school students from low-income backgrounds every summer to Princeton's campus for an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program's goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students from low-income backgrounds to pursue careers in journalism. All expenses, including students' travel costs to and from Princeton, are paid for by the program. Students who attend the program come from across the country. Takes place in mid August.

~February DeadlinePrinceton Summer Journalism ProgramClasses at the program are taught by reporters and editors from top media outlets. Students meet with numerous Princeton professors, as well as Princeton’s president and admissions officers. They report an investigative story, cover a professional sports event, produce a TV segment, and publish their own newspaper. And they receive guidance on the college admissions process not only during the 10 days of the program, but also during the fall of their senior year of high school.

To be eligible for the program, students must meet the following qualifications:
- They must currently be juniors in high school.
- They must live in the United States.
- They must have at least an unweighted 3.5 grade point average (out of 4.0).
- They must have an interest in journalism.
- The combined income of their custodial parent(s)/guardian(s) plus child support payments, if any, must not exceed $45,000.
