What we had to learn was right there in front of us, so the inbetween process was a lot less stressful, since we had start and finish. When we were reading aloud, the teacher had a box of hats in the front of the room, so we could wear a hat that matched the personality of the character we were reading for. She also used fun ways to learn things, such as fun worksheets. When reviewing for test, she always had a game that actually helped us review instead of just the typical jepoardy. When we reviewed for a test on a book we read, she made a game online that we played with a partner. My class was dreading to read Romeo and Juliet, but we were each given a part to read which made it more fun than just reading it individually or popcorn reading. We also watched the movie at the same time and each time we finished a scene we watched that scene in the movie. The history of the subject does not pressure us to learn the exact dates of historic significance within that subject, but he helps us to aquire the causes and effects that differ yet come together. I loved the fact that in English class Ms. Ward let us take over the class for a day. It was fun and totally cool. Yesterday in Creative Writing though, we blind-folded each other and walked along the track to see what it felt like to be blind. The expirience created fantastic ideas for a writing prompt and we all sat down where we stopped walking and just started writing. I loved Ms. Jackson because she taught me that you don't always need to write a lot to get your point across. Taking notes is not always about filling 4 pages, but its about getting your main point down. I also liked Ms. Jackson because she challanged us, but knew when we were doing too much. We had received projects and assignments that were nothing like I had ever had before. Ms. Jackson not only was a great teacher, but she was a great person. She has true compassion for her students, always wanting them to do well. She always offered to help us both before and after school, even with her other 3 classes she taught. He creates a dynamic classroom setting where everyone is encouraged to participate and contribute. He asks simple questions, such as "What do you think of that?", which lead to an exploration of deeper themes and ideas presented in the text. Rather than dictating what we should know, he acts as a guide and allows room for us to stumble upon discoveries by ourselves. The class isn't overtly serious or too casual - rather, there is a mix between the two that allows me to feel relaxed while still concentrating on what we're discussing. There isn't a class that goes by without something funny happening that cracks us all up, just as there isn't a class that ends without me walking away with some new idea to ponder over. In addition, Mr MacKnight himself is always a very amusing fellow to observe - at any given moment he is liable to break into dance and song, or tell an interesting anecdote. He is constantly rearranging seating so that we learn to get along with other students, and having us write on the board and do things in a very active, get-up-and-go style. They are willing to joke and have fun, but in the end what's most important is getting the job done. They are willing to be flexible to the differences in how each of their students learn and interact. One important thing is explaining and demonstrating new ideas or projects so the students understand what it is that they're supposed to do, rather than just opening a book or being handed a sheet of paper and expected to figure out what to do with it. The most important yet simplest thing a good teacher does, however, is compliment and support a student. For example, a math teacher will say "Wow, you understand this concept exceptionally well," and an English teacher would say "I really liked your poem, especially the last stanza." Became a friend and made each class a pleasure to attend		I can easily understand the material being taught.connected to my daily life.The one thing that really strikes a teacher out from the rest is a unique teaching style. A valid example would be John Keating from the movie "Dead Poet's Society". The boys, who were so accustomed to the humdrum spoon-feed learning style, showed how a teacher is able to change all that and inspire them by being unorthodox and unique. Students like teachers who are, as Roald Dahl describes, 'sparky'. Instead of reading their textbook at the head of class, students like teachers that act as one of the class and learn as they learn. I personally learned better if i have a written lesson to look back to as well, when i am revising, or if i forgot something. I have been in schools in France, America, and now China, and i can see a big relationship between the relationship between teachers and students and the grades.
In France, the teachers are constantly telling the students that they are not their friends, whereas in America, and in China, the teachers joke around with the students.
I think it is a better working environment for the student if they can talk to their teachers more privately, but i think that if they are too close, then the student might forget the respect that is due to a teacher. He taught Honors Civics in a dumpy little public school, and managed to make it accessible, applicable and fun to learn. He did so by papering the walls of his classroom with notes, pictures and fun little scribbles. He made us do puzzles about Supreme Court cases and the Declaration of Independence in under a minute. Whenever he got tired of teaching, he'd play a random classic rock song. Whoever could tell him the song title and artist got candy chucked at their head. There's nothing that turns me off learning more than sitting through a textbook lecture. The times I've payed the most attention and remembered the most are NOT the times where I sit through class listening to the teacher talk in a near monotone voice for 80 minutes writing down notes.
Math is the best example of this: I had a math teacher a few years ago who kept me interested by adding classmate's names into funny word problems, related ideas to REAL LIFE situations, and when he worked out a problem on the board, he wouldn't just write it down and explain it, he'd ask the students every step of the way. Now, my math teachers just go through textbooks with us, and write stuff all over the board, and I feel like I'm learning very little.
And really, I will be interested in ANYTHING so long as the teacher adds interest to the topic. Interest in the subject is what motivates me to learn the most, so the teachers who teach interestingly, even in the subjects I don't like (Science!), I've learned the most from.		I know that I will be graded., I have input on how and what I will learn., I make a commitment to a group project. I never flake out on commitments to other peopleUnfortunately, none of these. I'll explain why in the section below in the "Lessons" category, none of those apply.
Sure, my favorite classes have employed a few of those "techniques", or whatever they can be called...
But really, the TEACHER has always been what's determined my favorite classes.
