He receives a Centrelink student payment and does sporadic self employment, the total varies but always equals under $1500 a fortnight.NoI don’t have time for additional employment outside my PhD and I’m starting to struggle a bit with only the stipend. Cost of living is increasing and I cannot currently afford to live outside the student accommodation which is the cheapest accommodation in my region. Doctors are no longer bulk billing in my area and grocery prices are increasing. It is putting a lot of financial stress on me. I would like to see the stipend increased to minimum wage for a full time job (I.e. 40hrs a week). As I am working that and between household requirements and other required errands I’m lucky to get a half day on the weekend to rest so a part time job for additional income is not an option for me.

Yes - $100,000NoA stipend increase is essential - the constant feeling of burnout from trying to work additional hours to make enough money to make ends meet is unsustainable long term. We are working longer hours than most full time jobs, conducting real research, and are responsible for a majority of university research outputs. We deserve to be earning above the poverty line.

YesCurrently I work approximately 10h a fortnight as an RA for UNSW. I do another 10h a fortnight as an RA for USyd.NoYes. I have approx. 5 collaborative research projects that I am working for which I am not being paid. At this stage I have contributed about 30h unpaid to each project. My hours are fairly inconsistent, but approximately 5h/fortnight.$1650 mortgageLiving with my husbandYes, my husband earns approx. $80,000 a year.I'm pregnant with one. I would like to note that my hours as an RA are VERY inconsistent because I am a casual on both jobs. It would be more accurate to ask how many paid hours are included in the contract.
I.e. One of my contracts (with UNSW) is for 140 hours Sep-Dec, while the other one for USyd is for 400/year (although since March there has only been enough work for 80 hours so far).
