Sisters in Arms / Զինակից քույրեր
In Greta Thunberg's wake, the young have commenced an unrelenting struggle to save our planet. At the front of these corteges, and making headlines in the media as well as on social networks, young women have become the movement's figureheads, sometimes in spite of themselves. Who are these young women? Why are they both acclaimed and belittled?

To better understand the commitment of Anuna and Adélaïde (Belgium), Luisa (Germany), Léna (France), Leah (Uganda) and Mitzi (Philippines), we decided to follow them but also compare their struggle to an extraordinary woman who preceded them: Julia Butterfly Hill. Twenty years ago, after having lived for 738 days at the top of a majestic California redwood tree, this young American militant managed to save the trees in an age-old forest from being felled.

The film relates the pathway these young activists have followed, in each her own way, but always driven by remarkable energy that could move mountains. A picture emerges of a course shared by "sisters in arms" who are driven by hope, commitment and exceptional ideals.

sea levels rise, large parts of Denmark, including most of Copenhagen, will be under water, as will many of

Despite extensive research, we s;ll have no conclusive answer to this ques;on. But this answer is precisely

Yellowstone 88 - Song of Fire / Յելոուսթոուն 88․երգ կրակի մասին
In the summer of 1988 dry lightning sparked a fire in the parched and drought ridden landscape of Yellowstone Park, igniting a blaze that would scorch over 1.5 million perimeter acres of the park.

Song of Fire, a narrative poem, guides the animation of YELLOWSTONE 88 telling the story of this conflagration that raged unabated for months until a snow of such intense severity extinguished the flames. That winter surviving Fauna, exhausted from fire and weakened by hunger, die in greater numbers than those claimed by the fire. The cosmos turns from one season to another and another and life in the park begins anew.

Aravali The lost Mountains / Արավալի․ կորած լեռները
Aravali: The Lost Mountains is a documentary on marble quarrying in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district, India. The Aravalli Range is the world's oldest fold mountain range, and it helps to sustain the ecosystem. Ground water levels have been drained and average rainfall has also been depleted as a result of continual mining for the past 35 years, resulting in a serious water crisis and air pollution in Rajasmand. On the other hand, mining is the primary source of income for the majority of the population. As a result, this film examines both sides of the same coin, namely, the economy and the environment. We sought to interview people and experts to figure out how to strike a balance between the two.

Desert or Rainforest / Անապատ կամ խոնավ անտառներ
What do you want to become of the Earth? We see how around the world each year more landscapes are impacted by drought and fire, only to be flooded when the rains do come.

That was abundantly clear in the Australian bushfires of 2020. The fires burned 12 million hectares, killing more than 1 billion animals. And when the rains came the landscape flooded. There was no chance for the parched earth to absorb the rapidly draining rain…

But amidst this disaster, in an especially horrific year of heat and fire, there were also examples of places that were cool and moist, that had no problem weathering the fires. One of these places was the Canberra Botanical Gardens, a Rainforest created by Humans in New South Wales, Australia. The rainforest acts as a green lifeboat. Keeping temperatures cool with photosynthesis throughout the year.

Reviving Rivers / Վերակենդանացնելով գետերը
Can we revive our rivers and landscapes? Can we bring water back to regions that have been desertified? Yes we can, and this example shows us how.

Drought and water scarcity are now issues all around the world. Cities are running out of water, landscapes are engulfed in flames, and every year drought, flood and fire become more common and severe. Despite the huge amount of energy and money that has been put into developing elaborate water systems, the distribution and availability of water seems to continue getting worse. The engineered solutions that nations around the world have pursued, while solving our immediate needs, have made the long term outlook even more bleak. The best solutions we’ve found have come from people living close to their landscape, dependent on the health of their land for their own survival.

In the driest region of India, Doctor Rajendra Singh was up against these enormous challenges. The farmland in his region had turned to desert, water sources had gone dry, and all of the young people from the villages had migrated to the cities for work. While he was treating the remaining elderly villagers for night blindness (due to malnutrition), one village elder showed Rajendra a more powerful way to help the community. He told Rajendra that what the community needed to be healthy was not medicine, but water - Rajendra had to shift his focus to treating the Earth.

Perfect Storm / Կատարյալ փոթորիկ
East Africa is struggling with one of the worst droughts on record, with up to 20 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia facing severe hunger, chronic water shortages and limited access to healthcare.

In the months following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, global food and energy prices have also reached record highs. Some of the world’s poorest communities are seeing prices of essentials double, triple and in some cases nearly quadruple.

When ActionAid visited Somaliland in March 2022, we filmed with four different communities to learn how they are each being affected by this unprecedented perfect storm.

FROM TRASH TO TREASURE: turning negatives into positives in Lesotho / Աղբավայրից գանձարան․ թե ինչպես Լեսոտոյում բացասականը վերածեցին դրականի
From erosion to overgrazing to enduring poverty, the people of Lesotho—a highland country surrounded by South Africa—face a variety of difficult challenges. Yet grassroots communities in the country also exhibit tremendous resourcefulness and creativity. In particular, a wealth of artists have mastered a talent for resurrection, developing the skill to creatively turn negatives into positives: Designers who turn discarded trash into beautiful jewelry, clothes, rugs. Filmmakers who turn tragedy into artistic expressions of resilience and compassion. Musicians who write songs to save the environment. In this short, Cultures of Resistance Films profiles a variety of these inventive creators, introducing viewers to a fascinating cast of local residents who are using art as a means of communicating a communal desire for positive change.
