| Will families have to be evicted? Meaning: once the boundary lines are redrawn, if a current Sassarini student is no longer in the Sassarini boundary, will they have to move schools? If the answer is yes, can our current 4th graders stay to finish out 5th grade if they choose to? Same for EV students. | On going | Staff believes that we will be able to allow students to remain at their current campus if they choose. We will need to wait to see what registration looks like to make the final determiniation.
| When will boundaries be finalized? Is Flowery included? | October 25 | The boundaries were approved at the 10/9 board meeting. Flowery does not have a boundary
| Will there be more Admin at Sassarini? With the addition of ESN and more general ed students, this will add significantly more IEP meetings and administrative attention. | n/a | There will not be an additional administrator at Sassarini
| Can teachers be involved in administration assignment decisions? | n/a | The superintendent will discuss the process with the Board
| Can office staff from Prestwood be added to Sassarini to support the transition? A familiar Prestwood face in the office at both Sassarini and El Verano would be great support in the transition for staff, students and families. | n/a | The district will need to follow the layoff processes as outlined in the union contract. Staff will be assigned based on the hire date in specific positions
| Will custodial staff be added? Right now we have two custodians who are not only responsible for classrooms, they are also responsible for NBCC. Additional classrooms would require additional custodial staff. | n/a | Custodial staff will not be added. Two custodians for the size of the school are what is specified in industry standards
| Will campus supervisors be added? We are spread thin right now with the reduction of campus supervision hours. More students will require more supervision. | n/a | We do not believe additional campus supervisors are needed at this time but we will reevaluate after the registration process
| When BOD presentations say “programs and resources will be optimised”, what does that mean? What are the programs and resources you are talking about? What is coming to sites to support students and staff? | on-going | We hope to have funding for more programs and supports for students. Staff will work Ed Services and site administrators to determine what the needs are
| When are families going to be notified so people can start making connections to their new schools? | October 25 | Staff will begin notifying parents later this month
| We need truth and honesty and kindness throughout this entire process.
| Can elementary schools stagger their Open House dates this year so students can visit their current and new school? Make it a meet the teacher event too? | On-going | Great idea, we will talk to the principals about this
| Can you please put together a solid transition committee composed of administration, staff, and parents? | October/November 25 | Staff will be working on this.
| What is the criteria or qualifications that are being used to choose the 7-11 members? Who is reaching out and asking people to be on the committee? | The criteria for serving on a school district's 7-11 Committee are primarily based on California Education Code 17389, as these committees are mandated for California school districts when reviewing the disposition of surplus real property. Required Categories of Representation Members must be representative of a cross-section of the community, including: • The ethnic, age group, and socioeconomic composition of the district. • The business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors. • Landowners or renters, with preference often given to representatives of neighborhood associations. • Teachers of the district. • Administrators of the district. • Parents of students currently enrolled in the district. • Persons with specific expertise in areas like: o Environmental impact o Legal contracts o Building codes o Land use planning (including knowledge of zoning and other land use restrictions of the cities or counties where surplus property is located)
| What are the financial implications of a charter school moving into the Prestwood campus? Will that negate the anticipated savings to the district of consolidating the elementary schools? | The approval of a new charter school within the District's boundaries will trigger a mandated transfer of local property tax revenue (paid "in-lieu of" taxes) to the charter school, estimated to be between $1.2 million and $1.4 million annually. This transfer directly reduces the District's unrestricted general fund revenue.
| Why did the board decide to close the school with the best education record in Sonoma? I heard the argument about keeping the schools where the kid's population is higher, but at what cost? wouldn't be better provide the best education regardless of location? plus if families weren't limited by the district of where they live, I guarantee you a lot of families from the west side of town would choose taking their kids to Prestwood if it was possible. | The Board's review of the School Consolidation Committee's data focused on the nine statutory criteria outlined in EC Section 41329. It is important to note that student performance is not among the nine criteria. The primary factor guiding the Board's decision is the imperative to minimize student disruption: the analysis showed that closing Prestwood Elementary will impact the fewest number of students due to its lower student population.
| What is the rationale for Flowery having no boundaries? What does this mean for parents who live in the neighborhood with children currently attending TK and/or younger children hoping to later attend Flowery as it is the closest school? How will priority be granted aside from siblings already at Flowery? Is priority only going to be granted if siblings are already in K or higher? If so, why don’t children already in TK also get priority to stay on at Flowery, especially if they live in the prior boundary map? | Flowery is a school of choice, meaning parent select to be in the dual emersion program.
| Is the charter petition submitted by the MacArthur Park advocates valid? I read the CA Dept of Education website's FAQ specifically pertaining to charter school establishment (https://www.cde.ca.gov/sp/ch/qandasec2.asp) and it says, "For a charter school that is a conversion of an existing public school, the charter developer must collect the signatures of 50 percent of the teachers at the school to be converted. The petition must contain a prominent statement that a signature means that the person signing is meaningfully interested in teaching in, or in having his or her child(ren) attend the school." Based on this requirement wouldn't the MacArthur Park petition have needed to collect signatures from teachers? Or is it not considering an existing school conversion? | Yes the petition is valid. It can be viewed on the District's website. Staff is evaluating the petition and will be posting their findings late December. The Baord will be voting on it at it's regularly scheduled board meeting in January. The petition is not for a conversion charter.
