Gregfuture+toolchainissues@sconsSohail, does http://scons.org/wiki/PlatformToolConfig come closer to what you want? If so, consider joining Gary+Greg's toolchain confguration rework.

StevenWONTFIXThis is normal Python behavior. We document that varlist must be a list, and if you pass in a string, then it's treated as a list of the individual characters. Now, to give the guy his due, there are plenty of other places (source and target file names) where we recognize a string and implicitly wrap it in a list, so we could be nice and add this behavior here. If so, it would be trivial for anyone else to fix, and I won't object.

Greg2.x or 1.x???Needs a followup to see if he created a patch. I don't see many Ada people beating our doors down, so 2.x without a viable patch or 1.x if he has a patch.

Gary1.x or 2.xp3Would be nice to fix this if anyone understands this code; would help users debug scons and help us get better info from (smart) users. Maybe add a trap in the stacktrace printer or something when running under pdb? Need to first understand how to tell when running under pdb; the rest is the easy part.
62

Gary2.x or GSoCp4uninstaller would be nice, but not for 1.x. Few similar projects have uninstallers. Debian and RPM give automatic uninstallers, so does win32. Setuptools should do it, not us.

84
BillinvalidIt's probably best to fail when such an error occurs. This will cause the users to take notice immediately, if they passed a -k then it would make sense to continue.

Garyresearchp4Greg: could trap the exception. But we need more info (e.g. testcase) from the submitter, which will be hard since it's anonymous. Otherwise we don't know what to really fix.
88

Stevenresearch???Some "Python failures" might be things like an exception thrown when a file can't be removed. Would it be better to carry on and clean as much as possible?
