| How to filter the register |
| Click on the "Register" tab below and then click the “Data” in the top menu, then “Filter views” and then “create temporary filter views”. Small arrows will appear in row 1 and you can use these to "filter" a column to show only rows meeting particular criteria. For example, to show only Common Reshank schemes, click on the little arrow next to Species name, then click empty to clear the selection; now scroll down to Common Redshank and click that. Now you will see only the Redshank schemes. |

| Note - when using the filter please use filter by condition > text contains. Rather than using the magnifying glass search as this will only detect when that letter is at the start of a new word. For example if filtering for a blue colour-ring only schemes starting with B would be shown using the Search bar. |

| Instructions for Ringers |
| Click on the filter for surname, then click on empty, scroll down until you find your name and click on that. A list of all your schemes will be shown. |
| Instructions for Ringing Offices |
| Click on the filter for country, then click on empty, then scroll down until you find your country and click on that. A list of all schemes registered in your country will be shown. |
| |
| Instructions for Observers |
| If you are an observer then use multiple filters. For example first filter for the species as described above. Then go to the colour coding and begin filtering. For example if you have seen an engraved ring on the left tibia, then first filter to find all the “er” codes in the flag/ring column, then filter on the left tibia position 1 column which will then show all the schemes with an engraved ring on the bottom part of the left tibia for that species. You should then be able to pick out the scheme you have seen. With practice at using the various filtering possibilities you should be able to find any colour ringed bird in a few seconds - that is as long as your reading is complete and rings have not been lost. |
