KauluakalanaUlupō/Kawainui/Manu/MakaliʻiTHE FOUNDATION OF KAULUAKALANA is firmly planted at Kūkanono, an ʻili ʻāina (small land division) at the piko of Kailua, which is home to two of the most significant cultural sites in our area: Ulupō and Kawainui. Ulupō is one of the largest heiau on Oʻahu and was built about 1000 years ago on the banks of Kawainui, historically the second largest fishpond in all of Hawaiʻi and now the largest remaining wetland in our islands. Together, Ulupō and Kawainui are the pillars of what was once a vast agricultural and aquacultural complex that supported the health and well-being of kānaka and ʻāina in our district. The presence of these two wahi pana also made Kūkanono the spiritual and cultural center of our ahupua’a for at least 1000 years. KAULUAKALANA is a community-based, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2019 by kamaʻāina of Kailua, those who have been raised by the lands and leaders of their ahupuaʻa to chart and navigate a course leading to kanaka (people) and ʻāina (land) reunited in a relationship that feeds us physically, intellectually, culturally, and spiritually. Traveling in the wake of those who came before, we are committed to ʻāina restoration and education, cultural revitalization, community regeneration, identity reclamation, and the renewal of kuleana in Kailua, one of the most storied ahupuaʻa on Oʻahu.Pre-K & Kindergarden, Elementary: Grades 1-5, Middle: Grades 6-8, High: Grades 9-12, Post High SchoolLoʻi (Taro cultivation), Loko Iʻa (Fishpond), Farming, Stream, Native vegetation and ecosystemsOn-site field trips, In Classroom Instruction, Teacher professional development, High School internship opportunitiesOne-time site visit, Annual visit, Quarterly visits, Long-term, regular visit partnershipshttps://www.kauluakalana.org/https://forms.monday.com/forms/fe1befd831beae521a64fd048f400eb5?r=use1Kaleo Wong, kaleo@kauluakalana.org1200 Kailua Rd, Kailua, HI 96734P.O.
