She then served as a Game Warden for the Wa Dept of Fish and Wildlife (83-90) including 2 years working undercover as a member of their Special Investigations Unit. For the past 34 years she have been an active member of the Kittitas Co Field & Stream Club and serves on the Teanaway Community Forest Advisory Committee. Deb also teaches Hunter Education for WDFW. DALE BEESON, Retired GeologistDale grew up on the Olympic Peninsula in Grays Harbor, Washington. He began his many travels and moves to other states and countries after completing his BS, Ms, and PhD degrees in Geosciences at Western Washington University, University of Colorado, and The Pennsylvania State University respectively. Most of his 40+ year professional career was spent in computerised geological earth modelling with significant research and work devoted to paleo climatology. Dale relocated to Ellensburg in September, 2021, to be closer to family in retirement. LIXING SUN, Distinguished Research Professor, Animal Behavior, Ecology, & EvolutionLixing Sun is a Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Central Washington University. He is an avid naturalist and the author of five books including The Liars of Nature and the Nature of Liars: Cheating and Deception in the Living World, the Fairness Instinct: The Robin Hood Mentality and Our Biological Nature, and the coauthor of The Beaver: Natural History of a Wetlands Engineer. In addition, he has authored or coauthored 69 original research articles, 9 book chapters, and one edited book, The Behavioral Ecology of the Tibetan Macaque. His writings also appear in popular magazines including Time, Science, Psychology Today, Nautilus, Evonomics, and This View of Life.

She attended CWU while working and going to school full time and graduated from CWU with a BA in Science with an Ecology and Evolution Specialization, and is currently a Lamprey Biologist with Yakama Nation Fisheries. Current research focuses on Pacific Lamprey restoration, aquaculture, translocation, habitat surveys, traditional ecological knowledge, and educational outreach. He has an undergraduate degree is both geology and botany from Miami University in Ohio, and also has a Master's degree in Cultural and Environmental Resource Management from Central Washington University. Shaun has spent his entire professional career as a botanist, previously working for the USFS and NPS for nearly a decade before becoming the LT Murray Widlife Area Manager with WDFW. As a botanist, Shaun's primary focus is native plant restoration and ecology, and invasive plant ecology. Join us for a catered dinner Allisa will share about her work in the shrubsteppe landscape, first with the Okanogan Conservation District and in her current position with the Washington State Conservation Commission. She will talk about her first impressions of the shrubsteppe, learning more about this often-misunderstood ecosystem, and finding collaboration and community in her work on the Washington Shrubsteppe Restoration and Resiliency Initiative. In 2019, she made the move to the Washington State Conservation Commission, where she now works and resides in Ellensburg. Much of her conservation career has been focused on wildlife habitat, community wildfire resiliency, and agricultural land conservation. 9:00AM-1:00PMGINKGO STATE PARK AND PETRIFIED FORESTLorena Medina-Dirksen, WA State Parks Interpretive StaffLorena Medina-Dirksen is an Interpretive Specialist at Ginkgo Petrified State Forest. She was born and raised in Mexico City, she lived in Alaska for 23 years, and she has been living in Washington State for the last 2 years. Lorena holds a bachelor’s degree in archaeology, and a Master’s in anthropology. One of her objectives is to share her knowledge about history and nature; and to keep learning new information to share it with the public. She likes to inspire others to learn and to share the passion of loving and caring for historical sites and natural wonders. Her job gives her the opportunity to speak English and Spanish which lets her communicate with more people. Being part of Washington State Parks is an honor for which she feels very proud and thankful for.We will ask participants to meet at the Ginkgo Petrified Forest Interpretive Center parking (NOT the Interpretive Trail parking lot). Participants can expect to be hiking until around 12:00 p.m. and Lorena Medina-Dirksen will be leading this hike, with a focus on wildflowers in the shrub steppe. A valid Discover Pass will be required for each vehicle attending this hike. Daily and annual Discover Passes can be purchased at the Interpretive Center parking lot the morning of the hike.
