DDB/EDM data modelExtensionEDMGerman Digital Library (DDB)Libraries / cross-domainTo describe the order and level in a hierarchy DDB uses some DDB specific properties. EDM as DDB facets, necessary to use non-literal values instead of literals. DDB uses “fake”-URIs for the facets when there is no URI existing and is using all URIs for the DDB facets as values of the dcterms properties instead of dcmes properties used in Europeana; To describe the relation between a ProvidedCHO and persons or organizations, timespans and locations DDB uses the description of edm:Event and its relation to edm:Agent, edm:TimeSpan and edm:Place. EADMappingDM2E data modelDM2ELibraries: (handwritten) manuscriptsCurrently, we chose to represent every c-level as a CHO in its own right. This kind of decision is a very fundamental one: It retains the structural richness of the source data but often introduces redundancy of information due to mandatory properties in EDM. Finding appropriate representations for intermediate levels also poses a challenge. Some formats would have benefited from event-based modeling but we refrained from this kind of modeling due to general complexity: The DM2E data model is object centric.dm2eD1.1: http://dm2e.eu/files/D1.1_1.0_WP1_Requirements_Report-20120813_Final.pdf

ESE PATHSExtensionESEPATHSCultural HeritagePATHS was a research project working on the semantic enrichment of digital library content, working with metadata provided by Europeana in ESE format. The results of the content processing created new links between "similar" records, a set of background links to Wikipedia articles. These new relations were described using an extended format called ESE PATHS<paths: informativeness> - the informativeness score of an ESE record; <paths: vocabulary> links an ESE record with a term; the element has the following attributes - name, URI and confidence; <paths:event> which links the record with external events and has the following attributes - source, canonical_form, confidence; <paths:related item> links the ESE record with related CH items has the following attributes: confidence, method, field, field_no, start_offset, end_offset. <paths: background_link> has the following attributes: source, start_offset, end_offset, field, method, confidence, title, sentimentwithin the proxy object we define, related CH items, Vocabulary concepts, events and background linksESE PATHS is documented in this project deliverable: http://www.paths-project.eu/eng/Resources/D2.1-Processing-and-Representation-of-Content-for-First-PrototypeAitor Saroa

EDM PATHSExtensionEDMPATHSCultural HeritageEDM PATHSAs Europeana moved from ESE to EDM a roadmap was planned to move to a new format, EDM Paths. Description of museum object/works of art (based on Spectrum, CDWA, LIDO etc)MappingEDMRijksmuseumMuseumsLS: we did not add any refinements to our EDM but I want to implement LIDO for our collection/in our API and I would love to add LIDO to our EDM because the current set of fields in EDM (for CHO) is too limited/ people miss out on so much information because of the data model! For instance: inscriptions and marks cannot me mapped to EDM: so Europeana visitors don't know that there are a lot of the marks and inscriptions on the Nightwatch and that most of them were added after 1642 (year of creation)hand work (EDM documents en XSLT to convert AdlibXML to EDM)Lizzy Jongma

ExtensionEDMBiographyNetArchives, BiographySpecifying provenance information where one aggregation is derived from another. The EDM model, with the possibility for having multiple aggregations for CHO's and proxies for them, fitted well the need to model distinct biographies from different writers for the same person, along with different sets of person meta data derived from these biographies. These derived sets of meta data are added as additional biographical descriptions (aggregations having a proxy for the person, which is an Aggregated CHO in this case), along with provenance information that stores how that new biographical description is derived from the original (using NLP). In order to store this provenance information, the PROV and P-PLAN vocabularies were used in combination with EDM.PROV, P-PLAN, DChttp://linkedscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/paper7.pdf11/17/2015yesNiels Ockeloen

Extension EDMCorpus de la paroleAudiovisual archivesMainly the need of roles for the contributors. We used the so far OLAC model which is based on the qualified Dublin core for encoding our metadata. We have chosen EDM to change for a model based on the principles of web of data. The extension aims to put into EDM model the specifics of OLAC model, mainly for the roles of the contributors. In a first approach, we have defined as many sub-properties of the contributor's propertie as there are roles in OLAC. OLAC (Open Language Archives Community)The extension is not yet documented11/1/2015yesMichel Jacobson

ExtensionEDMEEXCESSMuseums, Archives, Libraries, Audiovisual archives, Scientific data providersAdding detailed information about the provence of metadata and its processing history. Aggregating metadata from different providers on-the-fly, applying transformations and enrichments, the extension with PROV is used to document whether data comes from the original record or has been added along the way, this can be used to assess confidence and appropriateness for specific user groups.
The extension basically defines classes that are subclasses of both the respective EDM and PROV classes."

RefinementEDMBibliothèque nationale de FranceLibrariesOur source format is Intermarc (a domestic MARC format - richer, and more granular than MARC21, and that contains links (URIs) to contextual entities such as authority records). We are mapping to EDMS. The mapping is still in progress, and maybe we will come up with some specific choices. So far our mapping is compliant to the Europeana Guidelines We intend to use:
- Rameau vocabulary for subject headings (ARK based HTTP URIs to each specific RAMEAU concept, in the name space http://catalogue.bnf.fr)
- Links to the BnF authority records (ARK based HTTP URIs to each specific authority record, in the name space http://catalogue.bnf.fr)
The implementation of these links depends on some technical constraints. The URIs are not present as such in the source data as imported in MINT (the source XML file contains only the local identifier ex: 21375297 that serves than as basis to construct the HTTP URI). The application of an algorithm for the generation of a check character is necessary to transform these raw IDs into HTTP URIs. The issue is under instruction.

- We would like to use other controlled vocabularies, but we are limited by the constraints of MINT
The mapping is done on MINT for Europeana Sounds12/4/2015yesIt will depend on the outcome of the project. The mapping to EDM, performed by the BnF has a double purpose: 1) respond to the requirements of Europeana Sounds, and 2) experiment internally with the transformation of BnF metadata in EDM as an opportunity to expose rich metadata.Anila Angjeli
