Then the game development and design club is for you! We created an environment for students with a passion and/or interest in creating games and turning ideas into actual projects. We collaborate to create indie games, design character models and more! Come to learn Unity and explore all facets of game design! All those interested in game design and development should come check us out, even without any prior experience. Members have the opportunity to learn the basics from experienced students, gain experience with all aspects of game development including art, code, and sound design, and even enter in student lead game development competitions. Members also have the opportunity to create models in blender. AB Asha & Education

Our club supports the education of underprivileged students with no or limited access to education. The club members plan/ execute fundraisers, invite speakers, and provide virtual tutoring to elementary school students. Together, members select and award raised funds to create educational opportunities. Previously, AB Asha sponsored students at the Prerna Girls School, VT Seva’s School for the Visually Impaired, Tribal Schools, UNICEF, etc. Members have the opportunity to work individually and in groups on event planning/ execution, advertising, web development, etc. Each meeting counts towards community service hours (~30 hours per school year).

Members are given the resources to explore the worlds of Technology, Design, and Engineering in an environment that fosters creativity and encourages self-learning. Members also have the opportunity to learn from guest speakers in the industry and participate in competitions and hackathons to have fun and test their skills. Absolutely zero prior computer science knowledge is required. Just bring yourself, ambition, and ideas!

AB Human Rights/Girl Up/UnicefMs. Ervick, Social Studieskervick@abschools.orgTuesday3-3:30pm228EOnce Per WeekGirl Up supports UN programs promoting the health, safety, education, and leadership of girls in developing countries through awareness activities and fundraisers. AB Human Rights is a group devoted to fighting human rights abuses around the world. The group is affiliated with Amnesty International which works to raise awareness of human rights issues, focusing on prisoners of conscience (individuals imprisoned solely on the basis of their beliefs or ethnic origin). Group meetings focus on letter writing, discussions, fundraising and specific cases. Open to all interested students.

UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential, from early childhood through adolescence. As a club, we hold fundraisers to raise awareness and support these causes.

We are committed to fostering an environment that addresses and actively works to rectify all forms of oppression in the Acton-Boxborough area

In 2023-24, ABSEJ combined with SPAC (Student Prison Alliance Coalition) which focuses on injustice in prison plans educational events, such as the TUPIT event, and takes political action. We discuss racial inequality and class inequality and how they intertwine with incarceration in America.

The Ambassadors Program has multiple purposes at AB, including the pairing of a junior or senior with an incoming freshman or new student to help with the adjustment to the high school. In addition, Ambassadors assist with spring tours for 8th graders, and, most importantly, the Freshman/New Student Orientation Day at the start of the school year. Ambassadors will also have opportunities to facilitate various school social events throughout the year.

We’ll spend the fall learning and practicing biotech lab techniques, then we’ll provide a space where students can participate in bio-related competitions and showcases such as BioBuilder, Genes in Space, or Region IV Science Fairs. All three of these projects have similar timelines, wrapping up in March/April. The club will give students opportunities to work with micropipetters, gel electrophoresis, MiniPCR thermocyclers, P51 visualizers, BioBits technology, and more. There may also be opportunities to participate in science outreach events with elementary schools. The club may have a lab fee for the purchase of materials and entry into some competitions.

Latinx Affinity GroupMrs. Bedoyajbedoya@abschools.orgWednesday3-4pm 130 EastEvery other weekOffers a safe space for members of the Latinx population to share common experiences and to elevate their voices in the community. Latinx, a gender neutral alternative to Latina and Latino, is a term that has recently gained a presence in popular culture. The term is used to describe the diverse group of people who have roots in Latin America, including people from Brazil. Because the Spanish language classifies most words as masculine or feminine, the term Latinx emerged out of an act of solidarity to include LGBTQIA+ folks who may not want to be classified as male or female. Latinx is an intersectional term that aims to include all people of Latin American descent. All students are welcome!

Grey Chapter of the National Honor Society is dedicated to creating enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulating a desire to give service, promoting worthy leadership, and encouraging the development of character in the students at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. The Society participates in many activities and provides many services to the school and surrounding communities.

The foundation of criteria for selection to the National Honor Society is based on the outstanding demonstration of the four qualities of scholarship, leadership, community service and character. Students who have successfully met the specific chapter qualifications and requirements are formally inducted into the organization during the last term of their junior year. The Constitution and Bylaws of the National Honor Society are available in the main office and library.

Outreach Club, formerly known as Acton Boxborough Community Outreach Club, or ABCO, has big plans for this year. Club members can expect to take part in such meaningful activities as playing with and providing support to young children, helping to meet peoples’ basic needs by running food and clothes drives, preserving the stability of our local environment by fighting invasive plants, and fundraising for charities, but the opportunities don’t stop there. If you have an idea, suggest it to us! We’re open to anything that will further our goal: to make a positive difference from a community to a national level, through care, compassion, and service.

We are looking for dedicated AB students to become Peer Leaders! Through whole-school activities, we help promote happy and healthy lifestyles while building community within our school. Our past activities have included gratitude messages during Thanksgiving, no one eats alone campaign, post-its with positive messages, chalk messages for seniors, making posters, creating Valentines for the Acton Senior Center, and being door greeters while welcoming students and staff into school in the mornings. Membership is open to all students in grades 9-12 who may join anytime during the school year. Meetings are approximately twice a month, with one activity per month.

Once a week, students collect paper, bottles, cans and containers from bins and receptacles around the school. The group also aims to increase awareness among students, teachers and staff about the benefits of recycling and ways to decrease wastefulness. The recycling group is open to ideas for promoting recycling and other environmental causes.

Students compete as teams in various areas of science for which they prepare during the preceding weeks. Window Seat: Literary and Art Magazine and Creative Writing ClubActon Boxborough's Literary and Art Magazine and Creative Writing Club annually publishes two to three issues of student poetry, prose, lyrics, essays, narratives, translations, and art. Students write, edit, design, publicize, and distribute the magazine. Students write creatively every week to generate submissions for the magazine, and the magazine welcomes and encourages students not participating in the club to submit their art and writing for publication. Art students also meet weekly to create art or illustrations for specific pieces of writing for the magazine.
