Game Rules & Information
It is the responsibility of each team’s coaches to know when they play on Sunday!
All teams must check-in before their first game and will be handed score cards to turn into Game Tent!
Enclosed you will find the pool play bracketing. All teams will play three games on Saturday. Game times are approximate! Be prepared to take the field immediately when the preceding game is completed. This does not mean infield practice by your coaches. Failure to be on the field and ready for play will result in a forfeit.
The pool play will seed into the single elimination tournament on Sunday, which is formulated on how you performed in the pool games on the standard win, loss and tie system. If your pool has a tie at the end of pool play, the deciding tie breakers will be head to head competition then,
1. Least runs given. 2. Most runs.
3. Coin flip
Home team shall be decided by coin toss when umpires review the ground rules. The starting line-up must be submitted to the home plate umpire when the ground rules are reviewed. Game balls will be provided and are to be returned to the umpires at the games completion.
Any coach / player ejected from a ball game will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee to rule if the entire team should be ejected. Final decision of the Tournament Committee shall be final! Coach / player will be notified by the Tournament Committee with the final decision whether it warrants team ejection. There will be no refunds!
All teams are guaranteed four (4) games, WEATHER PERMITTING. (Three pool play games and advancement into a single elimination bracket.)
There shall be no infield practice between games at anytime. Please vacate the dugout area when your game is complete. Practice and warm-up areas will be designated at check-in.
Pool Play Only
A one hour and twenty minute (80 minutes) time limit shall apply to all games. Official game time starts with the first pitch. The umpire shall have the official time. No new inning shall begin after the one hour and twenty minute time limit. (See Drop Dead ruling below.) Continuous batting order for pool play only.
Drop Dead Ruling – Pool Play
When the time limit expires, whatever the score is at that time will stand, even if the home team does not get their at bat. Scores do not revert back to the last inning. It drops dead there.
Elimination Play Only
Game time starts with the first pitch. The umpire shall have the official time. No new innings after the one hour and twenty minute (80 minutes) time limit. In the event that time has expired, and a game is tied, the International Tie-breaker will be instituted at the top of the next inning! The game clock will be stopped only for injury.
ABSOLUTELY NO PROTEST WILL BE ALLOWED ON AN UMPIRE’S JUDGMENT CALL.
In the event of rain, every effort will be made to continue and complete the tournament. However, one or more of the following formats may be instituted at the discretion of the Tournament Director!
Please remember, Orland Park Parks and Recreation Department has lightning detectors. When they are activated, they will not turn off until it is deemed safe by them.
Game Cancellations during pool play – Due to the number of games, field availability, and team schedules, the Sparks Game policy is to not reschedule or finish games not completed during the published game time if time does not allow them to be completed. Teams will not receive a refund for game cancellations. Games may also be shortened if needed to complete the pool game structure.
Example: If it rains Saturday morning between 2-6am, and the fields are not playable at 8:00am, all 8:00 games and any other time slot thereafter will be cancelled until the fields are in the appropriate condition to play. Once they become playable, the teams who are scheduled at that time will take the field to play if they are within 15 minutes past the start time. Otherwise the teams scheduled at the next starting time will play.
If it rains out the final day, the winner will be determined by pool play wins and then least runs scored against. If tied, most runs scored, if still tied, coin flip.
