2
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AI’m very interested in people learning to talk and listen with each other. Then I think there is a separate issue of deep-seated mistrust that could be resolved through those listening exercises.Com
3
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AWe’re based on and composed of people who are essentially being pushed out of the area. I mean I was pushed out, I live in Santa Rosa, I couldn’t afford to live hereCLgCLr
4
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AI want to be able to live in Sonoma. I’ve lived in Sonoma half of my life, I’ve never had any trouble making rent because I work all the time but now I can’t afford any of these rents. And what people are building and calling “affordable” is not affordable to me, or to latinos or young adults. I think we need to get a definition down to where it’s truly affordable because you look at what people make who live here in town, menial jobs, scoffs, you have to have four of those jobs to afford one house.CLgHaCLr
5
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/APeople need to stay and find a place to live if they need it or they’re all just gonna move away.CLg
6
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AVery concerned about, not very much is articulated in any official place about just cause eviction or rent control. It’s all about building and I think that is a huge huge issue.CLr
7
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AWhat people pay now is more than 30% of their income [for housing] and it should not be like that.CLr
8
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/Alaws against this sort of thing should come forward. Unless we stop allowing people’s homes to be investment tools for people that are only interested in making money we’re never gonna get our arms around it, with rent control, without rent control, it doesn’t matter.Ha
9
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AThere needs to be a viable political entity in the Springs, whether they become incorporated or the springs becomes a city. If you don’t do that you’re dependent on Susan Gorin who wants to do the right thing, but she’s limited.GSprings
10
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/APlease declare a housing emergency, getting housing on the agenda!Ha
11
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AThese issues [affordable housing] going to city council and you see the general plan up on the and nothing ever happens. Where is the power and how can we leverage the power to get it to do what we want?Ha
12
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AThere’s an issue in town with 10 cell towers, that they’re going to be bringing them into Sonoma, 9 of them are on the west side, 1 one of the is on the east side.HE5GQ
13
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AIf you don’t have houses for people with money, they will buy the houses that the people who don’t have money need, so you have to build all the houses you need, but you don’t want only 5 or 10% of those to be for affordable for folks who work in (?).Hm
14
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AMaster plan for [eliminating] single use water bottles in the Plaza and Depot park.N
15
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AHierarchical problem with guys at the top since civilization began. Class/race divide between the top and the bottom is a tough nut to crack.Q
16
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/ASolve parking problem on the plaza.Tc
17
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AThere needs to be a transportation plan and if you’re going to have a transportation plan you have to have centers of it and if you’re going to do that you have to have people’s houses where those centers are.TpLi
18
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/ALocal communities should be first, tourism second.Vl
19
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AWe are pushing for rent control and just cause eviction.CLr
20
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AIf it is going to be sustainable, there has to be not only places where people can afford to live, they have to be able to afford to shop here. I go in the Sonoma Market and it’s laughable. You know I think maybe I’ll get something here and I look at the prices and I walk out. Same with Whole Foods, we don’t we even shop at Safeway, we go to Grocery Outlet in Petaluma.Fa
21
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/APeople who work here but do not live here are not being represented. ⅓ of the population that is latino is not being represented and ½ of the youth which is latino has no hope of living here. Be intentional about listening and supporting the participation of the latino community. We are talking about a latino community that has been ignored for many many years and there’s already an assumption that they don’t care, they don’t want to be a part of the conversation, that they’re not attending meetings, that they need someone else to represent them. GCr
22
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/ALack of trust. We really need to be rebuild or create some trust and it’s on us, it’s not on the latino community.C
23
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/Aclimate change is left out of the conversation because people are afraid of it but the reality is it could help us. If we would get over all our little games and differences to start to deal with climate change as a community and be a model of dealing with it and we could transcend our differences and we obviously need that because we are in our little silos.EM
24
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/Awe should keep in mind, as a context for Sustainable Sonoma, that we are all human beings and we are facing some big problems here and the only we are going to survive is to get together.Cu
25
SV housing groupinterest-basedN/AMost successful meeting we’ve had was in El Verano because it was in the latino territory. Need meetings that people aren’t afraid to come to.Ce

Aging in place- all of the above, plus - blocking in bathroom walls to support future grab ons- shower + toilet. - barrier free (roll in) shower. - bathroom mirrors low enough to see from wheelchair (works for kids too). - toilet at "comfort height" "18". - blocking in roll in shower for future mounting of fold-down seat, or built in shower seat (great for shaving legs!). - sink in bathroom with barrier free opening. elders

It is not a legal right to live in a certain town/city in America. I don't live where I grew up becuase I can't afford it because it is even more expensive in that town. We need to balance between what it costs to live here and the amount jobs pay so people can afforf the cost while considering what it is about the area that residents like. You can only have more housing if someone fronts the money for it and no one does that if they can't get the maximum return on their investment. Vision PagepublictransportationPublic transportation is not a strong point in and out of Sonoma. More people would use public transportation if it was offered more. There is one bus in the morning out of Sonoma to San Rafael M-F and one bus back in the evening. If we offered more options, perhaps it would help with the traffic, increase sustainability practices, and provide people of all social-economic backgrounds more opportunities. Also, increase buses to and from Petaluma, Napa, and other surrounding areas. With the increase of tourists and weekenders, we need to find a way to keep locals interested in shopping locally and enjoying the city. Vision Page publicour natural environment and your quality of lifeEdited for length: importance of the Redwood groves and ridges to the fog drip that comes in from the ocean. redwood groves as an essential part of not just my part of the county, but rather a global issue needing to be addressed immediately. The Redwoof forest has dwindled to a mere fraction of what it once was. less than 1% of 2 million acres are left. I have a theory of observation that the fog will only come to large growth areas of forest, such as ridges. Once the grapes are established, redwood forests will never grow there again. the poisons that protect these grapes are helping to kill the rest of us with polluted ground water. along with the disappearing forests, are the animals indiginous to Sonoma County. I no longer see deer grazing by the roads at all hours of the day. There used to be tree frogs here in abundance. We are stewards of the earth, and must do something to protect what is left. One way may mean that the county does not allow for any more vineyard growth. Please help save what is left, and let it grow without boundaries. NNwiLo

The vineyards are echoing like "Civil War Reenactments" sites with constant fake gunfire laughed at by birds from dawn to dusk and even beyond. Vision Page publicour natural environment and your quality of lifeEdited for length: do everything in our power to protect the wildlife and natural areas around us. A mountain lion was murdered by a local farmer because he lost histag in the fires. It broke my heart and I cried when I read this. We have so few mountain lions left, compared to what once was. We have so few trees. The streams and rivers are polluted with legal and illegal pesticides, which is causing cancer in our valley for humans and killing wildlife. There should be no more vineyards. And the ones that remain should be organic to preserve the little wildlife we have left. Tourists don't need to increase in our area, they are already killing so much of the wildlife with so many people running them over on the roads, buying pesticide laden wine (and now weed) and other products and polluting the air with so many cars. Grazing animals also takes up natural habitat amd trees get cut down.We need to stop building and conserve what we have. Also, enforce speed limits. Speed kills so many innocent critters. Please do something to help our environment and the fast and forever disappearing wildlife. NwiLpNpNw

Vision Pagepublichealthy, diversified, and resilient economyThis is pretty much a one company town and that company is the wine business. So we have become dependent on industrial agriculture that is likely to deplete water resources and increase toxicity of the environment with pesticides. Petaluma has had a boom largely because it has become a younger more techie family town.Ed

Vision Pagepublicmost important to youI am very concerned about the tons of pesticides being sprayed on the vineyards. I grew up here – "my hill" is now vineyards, and the cow pastures are now vineyards... the vernal pools are extinct along with their inhabitants... "my creek" was always intermittent, but had pools that lasted all summer, full of life; but, now it totally dries up except for some higher sections. The insect population has been decimated (no more diversity, more pests), though we have a wild bee hive on the property (for how long?) – My priority? That would be to turn the Valley into a region with NO PESTICIDES or CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS. Poisoning our environment on a regular/continual basis is entirely illogical – we def need to be thinking of more than profit! - building soil, not "making dirt and dust" out of what can be a diverse, rich, and sustainable ecosystem.NpNaAg

Vision Pagepublicmost important to youThat locals realize that things in life change and evolve. We can't force people to invest in housing that offers low rent just because people want it and the reality is that tourism affords the community to have more jobs, community funds, etc. than it would otherwise, so trying to keep that out is not the right solution. I think the future requires that locals want to work toward good solutions rather than trying to keep the community as it was 30+ years ag0.

Vision Pagepublicmost important to youThe most important thing to me is to protect and improve the natural environment in our area. Increase park sizes, including continuing to protect the natural habitat around SDC. We are losing so many trees and wild animals, who lived here before we did. They deserve to have a place to call home. We should stop development in the area and protect what is left. I am a donor and member to Sonoma Ecology Center, Sonoma Wildlife Club, Sierra Club and the Sonoma Humane Society, as well as other organizations. I do my part to take care of my immediate habitat by not using pesticides and leaving the habitat intact. I obey the speed limits in town as well, as it breaks my heart every day to see so many dead animals on the road. :( I know it's probably not possible, but I really wish there were less tourists in the area and the housing was affordable to have more local people that actually care about the environment they live in and want to protect it. I cannot afford to buy a house in the area but have rented for several years so it is definitely my home. I support all our local parks as well and we should do more to help them, especially after the fires. LoV-Haparks

Vision Page publicour natural environment and your quality of life1. No development on the ridgelines so they stay as open space so wildlife and people can enjoy the beauty of the hills. 2. Restrict drilling wells so that we don't deplete the groundwater aquifer. County makes it far too easy to drill. 3. Water district should test the groundwater for agricultural pesticide runoff, like glyphosate. 4. Put more limits on the type and quantity of pesticides that grape growers can spray. 5. Protect open space, wildlife corridors and create more of them. Sonoma Developmental Center property needs to remain primarily open space. 6. Educate people about how to co-exist with wildlife. A young mountain lion that survived the fires was recently shot because it preyed on a goat. Why wasn't the goat secured in appropriate fencing?LpNwNpN

Vision PagepublictransportationWe need regular shuttle/small bus service from downtown Sonoma to downtown San Francisco, both for commuters and for shoppers/errand runners. This would take hundreds of cars off the road at prime hours, reducing congestion in the Valley and on Routes 37 and 101, as well as on all peripheral local roads.TpTc

Vision Pagepublic a healthy community full of healthy peopleHealthy air and water are the most important things for all people. We need to limit industrial farming that puts a lot of pesticides in our air and water. Also it would be great to have better safe walking and bike paths connecting different parts of Sonoma Valley to the downtown so people don't have to always drive. Where I live is just a short distance to the food market but it's not safe for me to walk or take a bike on that route.HEenvAgW

Vision Pagepublic a healthy community full of healthy peopleFor healthy people: A public rather than private permit process involving rainfall & soil studies (as in Napa) before Sonoma wineries are permitted to plant yet more vineyards; More regulations on water and pesticide use in vineyards. For a healthy community: more affordable housing and less mansion-building by mega-rich second-homers who think it would be just darling to own a boutique winery.AgNwHarich
