Art with a HeartArt with a Heart provides art experiences for groups and classrooms. They also install public art pieces around the city of Baltimore.This organization can use volunteers to prepare art supplies for K-12 classrooms in Baltimore City schools and to prep materials for art installations around Baltimore. Beans and Bread/St. Vincent de Paul/Catholic CharitiesThis center serves 200 meals a day to men and women at a day shelter. They also provide job, financial and case management resources. Volunteers are needed to help with serving meals, cleaning, food and holiday donation drives or assembling personal care kits. Caroline CenterThis nonprofit organization works to prepare low income women, often who are single mothers to be nursing and pharmaceutical aids. They also work with women who are interested in working in construction. Volunteers are needed to tutor women in pharmaceutical or construction math. Conversations to RememberThis organization works with seniors who are feeling isolated or alone and want someone to talk to. Volunteers will be put into pairs and will then have weekly 1 hour virtual sessions to talk to an elderly person in need of companionship. This is a 16 week committement, and does not need to align with a semester schedule. Online training (takes less than 2 hours) is required to begin this volunteer opportunity. Empower for LifeThis organization works to help homeless youth living in shelters in Baltimore and Harford Counties. The local Baltimore Chapter is staffed by an NDMU alumni. The organization works to create interactive and hands on learning experiences for children, often living in shelters. Volunteers are needed to help virtually or with regular holiday giving events or school supply drives. Volunteers are also needed to drive to and distribute supplies at homeless shelters . Franciscan CenterThis organization is a community hub/soup kitchen that offers many different types of services to area residents including financial literacy, computer training, food provision, clothing donations, financial assistance during times of crisis, help with ID's and birth certificates, help with SNAP benefits, eviction prevention and provides an address for any area residents that are homeless. They also offer food preparation training that leads to a jobs program for kitchen chefs. They also provide daily lunch meals on Monday through Friday from 10-1 and dinner on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 5-7 pm. Volunteers would be helpful in organizing supplies, helping to serve and clean up after meals and helping with financial literacy training or computer skill training. Friends of Stony RunThis organization works to preserve waterways, parks and public green spaces in the area. Volunteers are needed the third Saturday of each month to become a "Weed Warrior" and help with clean up efforts for green spaces and streams in areas that are nearby NDMU. Habitat for HumanityThis organization helps low income homeowners build and acquire housing. Volunteers are needed to work on construction sites. You should book your dates in advance. Opportunities are available from Wednesday-Saturdays from 8:30-3:30. No construction experience is needed. A second opportunity is to work at Habitat ReStores which sell used home and construction merchandise in Timonium, Halethorpe, Glen Burnie, Columbia and Dundalk. They can use volunteers at these stores from 10:30-5:30, Tuesday-Saturday. Please book the time ahead of time. Habitat construction sites are in the Woodburne-McCabe Community and Pen-Lucy Communites as well as other communities, a short drive from the NDMU campus.

Healthy HomesThis organization works in the Baltimore area to support children growing up in healthy, safe environments. Volunteers are needed and must committ to helping with 3 events per year as well as attending training. They will be a part of an education team that will help prevent unhealthy housing conditions. International Rescue CommitteeThis organization assists refuges and immigrants in the Baltimore community with integration and assimilation into the area. Volunteers are needed to become youth coaches, help with the Welcome Home Project or with seasonal internships. Volunteers should get involved by attending an information session. Lee Lee KidsThis organization provides opportunities to teach kids about sports, DJ programs and fitness. Volunteers are needed to help with coaching and supporting kids as they learn about sports such as flag football, kickball, yoga, and DJ skills. Live BaltimoreThis organization works to develop community housing fairs, providing trolley stop tours to help Baltimore residents learn about home ownership. Volunteers are needed three times a year for trolley stop tours which can involve passing out flyers to advertise the event, helping with registraiton and ticket at the events, and assistnace with bus tours of Baltimore neighborhoods. https://livebaltimore.com/events/ Please contact Auni Gelles at Auni@livebaltimore.com if you are interested in volunteering. Marian HouseThis organization provides housing for women who are homeless, suffer from addiction or past traumasVolunteers are needed to help with crafts, art therapy, holiday themed parties, game nights and spa days for residents. Medfield Heights Elementary SchoolThis is an area elementary school. Beginning in January 2025, second grade math tutors are needed during any singular or combination of the following dates/times: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:10-11:30; 12:40-1:55; 2:00-2:30; and or 2:40-3:10. Tutoring will occur with individual students and/or very small groups in an open-space area outside of the regular classroom. All materials will be provided. Mother Seton Academy (SSND middle school)This is a Catholic middle school that serves students below a certain income threshold. Volunteers are needed to assist with after school tutoring (reading and math, as well as to help with clubs such as a culinary club, spanish, french, fitness, chess, swimming, wresting, dance, golf, book club and dungeons and dragons. They are looking for volunteers to committ regularly to their students (weekly) for the roles described here. They also have one-off service opportunities to help with a golf tournament, 5K run and a wine harvest (fundraiser to support the school- must be 21+ to help). Moveable FeastThis organization provides meals to the critically ill in the Baltimore Area. Volunteers are needed to prepare meals in their kitchen from 8-11:30 and from 12:15-2:30. They can also use the help of drivers and also have a need for special event help. They can utilize groups of 5-10 people. They are a 5 minute walk from Johns Hopkins, so a student may be able to take the college connector bus to get to this location.

Our Daily BreadThis organization provides daily meals for clients. They are primarily a day shelter, but do have a residential program for a smaller group of men. They help with behavioral services, parole services, food stamp benefits, housing and BGE services, and workforce development. Most of the food they receive is through donations. They can use help from NDMU students or community members with meal service. Volunteers are needed from 9am to 1 pm. They can accomadate up to 15-20 volunteers at a time. They also can use help with their Christmas party. Reading PartnersThis non profit organization is devoted to helping children improve their reading skillls. Volunteers are needed to help children in K-4th grade at a number of Baltimore schools. No training is needed. Reading Partners will train you to be able to help children learn the skills they need to be successful readers. Most volunteers are needed during the school day or from 3:30-6 pm. You can also work with a friend to "Buddy tutor" so you take turns to help an individual child. Ronald McDonald HouseThis non profit houses families who have loved ones getting treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Volunteers help in a number of capacities including with preparation of meals (dinner and breakfast), kitchen help, front desk help and with childcare in the evenings to give parents a much needed rest. Volunteers are also needed for special events. Sharp Dressed ManThis non profit organization helps men with clothing donations so they can be prpared for program graduations, job interviews, office work dress code requirements and other personal events. Volunteers are needed to sort through and prepare clothing donations. Volunteers are needed on Tuesday's and Wednesday's from 12-3. Soul KitchenOrganization based out of Govans Presbyterian on York Road that makes weekly meals for area residents. Volunteers are needed for meal preparation. Note: The organization loves the help of individuals or groups of up to 12 people. Please contact Carolyn at facilities@govanspres.org if you would like to volunteer. If you are an individual, you can just show up to help on Sundays from 12/1- 5 pm. If you are a group, please give Soul Kitchen a 2 week notice so they can prepare for your group. Please note: They ask volunteers to come with a self-starting spirit- ready to look for opportunities to help versus waiting to be told what to do. This organization can use drivers who are interested in dropping off food donations to those in need. St. Francis Neighborhood CenterThis community association is devoted to meeting the financial, housing and employment needs of residents in the 21217 area code. This involves those living below the povery line, some of which have been Afghan immigrants historically. Volunteers are needed to help with special events, including a musical event that occurs every August. They also have quarterly student nights where volunteers are needed to help with special events planned for 75-100 people. They can also use the help of tutors.
