This dataset represents specific Parks amenities and their closure status in response to COVID-19 (see below for more details regarding each amenity).

Data was collected by NYC Parks Maintenance and Operations staff on paper sheets, Excel spreadsheets, or over the phone and entered by analysts into an Esri-based web map. Data collection began on 4/4/2020 and is updated on an ad hoc basis.

Amenities included in this dataset:

Playgrounds

Indicates whether a "playground" was completely, partially, or unable to be locked; if partially locked, the amenities that are still open; notes; and whether the playground also includes basketball courts, handball courts, tennis courts, or multi-purpose play areas.

The "playgrounds" dataset is a combination of Children's Play Areas and any other sites that have "playground" in their name. Additional sites have been added or removed based on requests from Borough operations. Skateparks, Dog Runs, Adult Exercise Equipment

Indicates whether a skatepark, dog run, or adult exercise equipment was completely, partially, or unable to be locked; if partially locked, the amenities that are still open; and notes.

Athletic Facilities

Indicates whether athletic facilities (basketball, bocce, handball, netball, tennis, volleyball, softball, soccer, baseball, track, cricket, MPPAs, football, hockey, and rugby sites) were completely locked, partially locked, blocked with a barricade, taped off, or active.

Indicates nets and rims removed for basketball, netball, tennis, and volleyball courts. Indicates goal removals for soccer fields.

Please note: Some data sets indicates installation of either red "closed" or yellow "courts/amenites are closed to group play" signs.

Comfort Stations

Indicates whether a comfort station is active, Covid-closed, reopened, or under construction. Indicates additionally whether a comforst station was completely locked, inside a closed playground, or officially closed-not Covid. Please note this may not include the entire list of all Parks comfort stations.
