TimestampAs a teacher, what is the most challenging part about integrating technology into your lessons?
10/10/2012 9:42:07As a distance learning teacher the hardest part is dealing with other schools technology (filters. hardware, updated software). When I design a new activity I have to have so many "options" to accommodate everyone's level of technology that I find myself not doing some of the more creative ideas I have.

10/10/2012 10:37:14I find that sometimes my own confidence limits me with using technology in the classroom. Too often I have been stranded mid-class with some computer problem or other and the ensuing stress makes me limit my future use of technology. Our IT guy is hardly ever available to fix simple problems. I am not a wonderful troubleshooter!!!

10/11/2012 8:13:16I am a spontaneous teacher. I respond to students needs and questions as they arise. I find, that often Technology isn't as flexible as I need it to be. I can click ahead in a power point or go back and review slides as needed but it feels very scripted. I like Prezi-- its more animated and fun, but I have the same problem with limited responsiveness to the student's needs. As I teach, I often use Google images to explain unfamiliar concepts or vocabulary. If I use the iPad then I can keep the small group focus but if I switch to my desk top then the proximity of seats to the screen becomes an issue. I also like using the smart board with larger groups-- but then class room lighting becomes an issue. Technology is great, but it isn't perfect. Its one more tool we can use to teach and yet there is still no substitute for a really good teacher.
10/11/2012 8:15:25The biggest challenge has been unexpected technology malfunctions. For example, I had planned for a class to use their laptop computers to complete a research project and our school's internet provider had an outage right in the middle of the class period. Technology is an amazing educational tool, but a teacher always need to be prepared with a backup plan in case that technology is out of commision.
10/11/2012 8:18:01The most challenging part of integrating technology is very simple: inconsistent operating systems and varying quality of equipment. Due to either financial reasons or lack of technical savvy, often, when students are under the auspices of BYOD, there are technical difficulties during class or submission of work, integration of technology in the curriculum. However, when equipment, consistent OS and software is used, there is a greater consistency and ability to insure quality work for all students. Where I teach, we have a BYOD and my daughter attends a school where students are issued IPADs. It has been clear that the consistency in the equipment allows the teachers to be more creative and spend more time teaching, flipping the classroom and less time listening to excuses why something doesn't work or couldn't be turned in. In addition, the IT department spends less time fixing issues when the equipment is alike instead of the variance of BYOD.

I find it incredibly frustrrating when technology does not cooperate, i.e. lack of internet access. When it works, it is a beautiful thing....when it doesn't it is beyond frustrating. I find flexibility and a solid Plan B are best practicees when integrating technology into our curriculum, and daily pratice.

10/15/2012 8:39:26The most challenging part about integrating technology is troubleshooting during a lesson. As much as teachers try to plan ahead, if the internet is down, the internet is down. If a website is under construction in the afternoon, it does not matter that it worked perfectly that morning. I am relatively comfortable using certain technological media as a regular part of my routine with my students, but if something is not working, I have to "scrap" that part of the lesson and think on my feet to keep the activity going.

I computer non ci sono e quando si riesce ad andare in laboratorio d'informatica, alcuni non funzionano, tutti sono obsoleti, non aggiornati. Internet è lentissimo. Non c'è l'ADSL. Comunque ho abbandonato la scuola, ho dato le dimissioni.

11/5/2012 22:16:51There are so many different apps out there, and current educational policies are limited to allow these electronic "stuff" become part of the accepted forms of assessment. On the other hand, it is better to slow down the use of digital technology in classrooms; the students must first learn to "do" things practically before the electronic learning kicks in. It is frustrating to see that students are struggling to physically pick up pencils and pens, and that when you take away the electronic devices, they're not motivated to learn as much. Digital technology develops a much earlier dependence on the equipment and therefore, in my opinion, slows down the learning of practical skills, and also learning about the relationship between theory and practice. Another issue: the use of digital equipment can only be made standard once ALL students are using them; currently those students who can afford the equipment are at a huge advantage - the inequalities in learning will even become bigger.
