3 | 7/29/2014 | 3 hours | I sat down with the kids during their circle time and watched as the kids had fun and requested songs of their own. After circle time was over the teacher send them off to work on their own whether it be in the language, math, or reading section of the classroom and I walked around helping them. After that she gathered them again at the carpet and had them line up to go outside to play, then they came back inside, I helped serve their lunch and afterwards helped put them to sleep for nap time. | 3 hours |
4 | 7/30/2014 | 3 hours | I was in the front office for awhile helping answer calls and what not. Then once the director arrived I went to the classroom to help the kids with their assigments, which involved naming their continents, planets,etc. After the teacher had called them to gather around the carpet before going outside. Riley, a child, was complaining about her hair so I braided her hair and then pushed her on the swings so that she could "fly." As the day before, I helped serve their lunch and then put them down for their nap. | 6 hours |
5 | 7/31/2014 | 3 hours | Today I was cutting out some things for a teacher in another classroom, while observing circle time. As usual I helped the kids with their assignments and checked their work. When we went outside I watched the kids to make sure they were playing fair and when time was up we lined them up to go back inside. After they finished eating I cleaned up their tables and helped wash their hands. As usual we put them down for their nap but the kids were unusually hyper today so it took a little longer than usual, tiring everyone out. | 9 hours |
6 | 8/1/2014 | 3 hours | On fridays the kids have water play, which is just connecting a hose to a sprinkler type thing so that they can run around and get wet. So to help out the teacher she asked me to run circle time while she got the kids changed into their swimsuits. To say I was nervous is an understatement, so I had the kids sing some of their regular songs: twinkle twinkle little star, row your boat, etc., and do some stretches.After that they went outside to play and when they came back I helped change them and then had them sit down for lunch. 8 | 9/5/2014 | 1 hour | Today I came in for a quick introduction on what I will be doing for the year because unlike my time during summer mentorship, the kids will actually be doing academically centered stuff. 9 | 9/8/2014 | 2 hours | So today was the offical start to my mentorship! I had too much fun I recognized some of my kids from over the summer and some new ones. They were working on math: addition, subrtaction, counting so I got to help out a little more since I have mastered those skills. Ms.Chami has this little area where its full of books for the kids to see and try to read. 14 | 1/12/2015 | 4 hours | The new year has finally begun which is very exciting for me but not so much the kids. Today Ms. Chami went around asking the kids what they wanted to do this year since everyone was finally back from the holidays, some kids were out longer, anywho they were not excited to know that they had to go to school all year...again. 17 | 1/30/2015 | 4 Hours | Since today was the last friday of the new year Ms.Chami had the kids pic their favorite movie of the new year and after they came in from recess she put (FROZEN no suprise there) into the DVD player and she had me pop popcorn in the office and then hand it out to the kids. After the movie she had the kids do some sentence structure worksheets about FROZEN which she also had me print out while the kids had been watching the movie. | 27 hours |
18 | 2/2/2015 | 4 Hours | Since today was the first monday of the month Ms. Chami had the kids write down goals for what they wanted to accomplish/work on this month. After she had them do a very quick addition and subraction test, which I graded after they had all finished. I then had to go to the "baby" room because one of the teachers were short a person so I stepped in and I stayed with the little ones till the end of my time there. The little ones mostly just ran around the room played with the little activities at certain areas and I just had to make sure no one started a "mine" fight. | 31 hours |
19 | 2/6/2015 | 4 Hours | When I came in today the kids had just recently come back from recess and so after we got them to all settle down by singing the work song, Ms. Chami did a mini review lesson of addition and subtraction while I sat in the back with Ms.Mary and glued down some work the kids had done on wednesday. She would toss them a ball and if one of them caught it they had to come up and pair the correct word with the correct sentence. After they had come in from recess I sat in the back while they settled and then I helped hand out some cakepops since it was Issac's birthday. Once they had come down from the sugar rush Ms.Chami had them pull out their favorite books and read a couple, which honestly seemed to drone on and on. For the last couple of minutes I went to the office to make some copies of a worksheet they would have to do the following day. | 53 hours |

Afterwards the kids had to make at least 10 sentences with the new words they learned and it took forever! It was really fun watching them though.
