Fun to look at and a helpful reminder of the season I'm observing, but got in the way of me looking more closely at the data. | Including the bird calls was a good touch for this. Being able to hear what I'm seeing made it stick better in my mind, since I think I can tell the difference between a duck, finch, goose, etc relatively well. | Seeing the models of the birds was quite nice along with the surround sound of the bird calls, but that's mostly it. | $1 | $0 | I did web first. I had a hard time making sense of what data was being presented beyond the text, but this was still super fun to use! | https://drive.google.com/open?id=1GusPFvBFvfg8rX0PkQSkr4oeQf245r9g, https://drive.google.com/open?id=1siifY9AdQ5fmABkUDPqeHNBWSaoQL1pH, https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BY7HQKTzmgWmM-BQa6Sk4_EOeP_uAt5C

I think this may lead to a stronger connection in memory? | The AR version has a lot of animation, and the 3D models make things more memorable. | 0, I loved it | 10 | Just something I wanted to share: I feel like the size of the 3D models have a huge impact on me because when I was answering the recall questions, I immediately thought of that huge Canada goose model. It also felt difficult to track the changes in sightings of specific birds over multliple seasons just by looking at the numbers (even with only 3 birds per season) | The elements reminding us of what season it was were particularly effective, as it was a little difficult in the 2D version to keep track of the moving season at the bottom bar while simultaneously reading the data. | Ability to restrict to one season + see the season in the background | None | None | I did the 2D portion first. I do wish I was able to track specific birds across seasons. Overall loved the activity! It felt very engaging and immersive!

It made the data less overwhelming! | I would do it for free for the fun experience. | I would do it for free if I want to know the information. | I started with AR It would be really nice to see an animation of the bird moving (flapping their wings). I didn't really notice which was top in each season. | I tried to remember, but then we talked about transparency of things in the AR, and I think that flushed out all of the specific correlations of bird to season. Things I recall: goose in 3 seasons, not sure which wasn't present. Duck in summer and winter, I believe. European Starling in 2 seasons. Robin in one, I believe. Sparrow in one. I guess I'm missing three... | Yes. Coot. Osprey. bald eagle. blue jay. The last three were ones that I went in and looked at the travel data for, and that seems to have helped me remember them. The coot I remember because the name is funny. There were a bunch with "American" at the top of the list... | 2 | 1 - Very Low | 5 - Very High | Overall, I think that the passthrough was pretty distracting. It was helpful to avoid walking into things, but was visually distracting. I think that the transparency of the falling items and flying birds may have contributed to the distraction, especially against brighter backgrounds or high-contrast backgrounds (mixes of light and dark). I have a couple thoughts that might help, but they are hypothetical. The snow was the least distracting, perhaps because it was smaller and had a soft edge. Sometimes objects can have what's called "screen door transparency" or laciness, where there are holes or gaps in them that you can see through. It's possible that fully opaque objects that have that kind of laciness would be less distracting. Another thought is to have small diorama-like settings for each of your elements. They could be opaque, but we could see around them to the room. That might reduce the distraction. Another distraction was that there was no floor. Some of the birds seemed below the floor, and the falling stuff just went straight through. That broke the immersion a bit. | Everything being in 3D certainly feels immersed. Things were kind of far away, and that felt a bit less immersive. I | The 3D views of the birds were much more informative than on the web, I thought. It's possible there is something like that there, but I didn't find it. The AR was certainly more whimsical and fun. | $0 (I'm not sure I would pay to do again since I think I saw everything) | $0 (I might pay $1 to buy an app, say, since I can imagine going back to learn about more birds)) | I think I hit everything. I took some pics, but I want to get to Feiyue's activity, and it takes too long to transfer them... I'll try to send later
