AcademicMock TrialAn academic club where students learn the way a trial is handled in court. Students play the roles of attorneys and witnesses based on the witness statements and evidence provided in the case materials. Professional attorneys or judges serve as the Presiding Judges and Evaluators (jury). AffinityBlack Student UnionThe intent of the DHS-BSU is to engage students in activities that will strengthen the intellectual and social objectives of its members, and to provide awareness, resources, and support for students of color their allies, and among all its members and the community.DHS students have a great need to be heard. Affinity Fellowship of Christian AthletesA religious club where everyone is welcome. We meet weekly and begin with a fun game. Art/MediaPhotography Club (Snapshot)Snapshot is Decatur High School’s student-led Photography Club. The club exists to give students a chance to make photographs together and learn more about photography concepts and skills and styles. Snapshot welcomes photographers of all different experience levels and interests and cameras (to quote photographer Chase Jarvis, “the best camera is the one you have with you.”). In September of each year, juniors and seniors with a 3.7 weighted GPA are invited to apply to NHS. Those who meet the expectations for character, leadership, and service are inducted into NHS in October. In order to remain a member in good standing, members must maintain a weighted 3.7 GPA, have good attendance and behavior records, and complete a certain number of service hours. TechDecatur RoboticsDescription of Club: Decatur High School has two competitive robotics teams. The FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team is equivalent to a varsity sports team, and the FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) team is equivalent to a junior varsity team. Teams do much more than build robots and have something for everyone. Beyond building, designing, and programming robots, roles include community outreach/service, fundraising, social media and branding, and more. No prior experience is necessary.
