2Adukku Veetu AnnasaamyAthipathiTheatre Production9 April 202611 April 2026Pri/Sec/JC/MIAdukku Veetu Annasaamy is one of the most iconic Tamil radio plays of all time, written in the 1970s by Cultural
Medallion award winner Mr. P. Krishnan. This timeless comedy revolves around a few families who make the big
move from a kampong to HDB flats in the early 70s. Their struggles to adjust to a new way of life—filled with feuds,
differences, and unexpected friendships—form the crux of this non-stop laugh riot. At the heart of the story is the
Annasamy family, whose dream of modern HDB living is quickly disrupted by Panjanathan—their loud, always-hungry
brother-in-law. His well-meaning but disastrous “help” (from burning curry to “fixing” furniture with a chapati roller)
turns their home upside down. But Panjanathan’s chaos doesn’t stop at the doorstep—he spills into the neighbourhood,
meddling in quarrels, “helping” at the mamak stall (while devouring the stock), and earning equal parts fury and
fondness from the residents. Ironically, his nuisance eventually transforms into neighbourhood glue, reviving the
kampung spirit and uniting the block against—and eventually with—him. By the time he leaves, even the kiasu
aunty next door misses his ஈடுபாடு. Through witty dialogues, colourful characters, and situational humour, the play
sensitively captures the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of Singapore’s early HDB dwellers. Each character reflects
a unique personality of that era, offering audiences a glimpse into how families once lived closely together, valued
community spirit, and constantly interacted with their neighbours. We will be reimagining two to three of
these plays as one seamless performance, carefully preserving the 70s setting and language while giving
it a fresh theatrical appeal to connect with today’s younger audiences. Students, in particular, will enjoy the
richness of the Tamil language, enhanced by clever wordplay and comedy in almost every line.
With English subtitles, the production also opens the door for wider audiences to appreciate the humour,
heritage, and history embedded in the story.
Adukku Veetu Annasaamy is more than just a comedy—it is a cultural journey that bridges generations,
reminding us of Singapore’s past, the vibrancy of its community spirit, and the enduring relevance of its
values in today’s world.

Pri/Sec/JC/MIThis programme proposes a 1.5-hour stage production that celebrates the vibrancy of India’s folk
heritage through a musical integrating dance, music, and theatre. A story-based theatrical skit will serve
as the backbone of the production, interweaving the performances to create a seamless and
engaging cultural journey. This format ensures the dances are not presented in isolation but as living
expressions of tradition within a dramatic narrative. The performance will feature a range of folk dances,
including both lesser-known and widely recognised forms. These include Jikkattam, Perunsalangai,
and Pinnal Kolattam Attam, alongside Mayilattam (peacock dance), Poikal Kuthirai Attam (horse dance),
Oyilattam, Karagattam, and Sattai Kuchi Attam. Through theatre, these art forms are contextualised and
brought to life, deepening appreciation of their artistry and heritage. The programme aims to instil a love
for Tamil language theatre and foster pride in Tamil cultural heritage, while also showcasing India’s diverse
folk traditions. Its objectives are to preserve and revitalise traditional art forms, promote intercultural appreciation,
and engage younger generations through
an innovative and immersive format.

4Thol PaavaiTATTVATheatre Production24 April 202625 April 2026PriThis program is conceptualized as a multidisciplinary project that will infuse traditional shadow puppetry with modern
performance techniques, creating an immersive and interactive experience for audiences. The stories drawn from famous
traditional Tamil folklores such as Thenali Raman, will be adapted to explore themes of heroism, wittiness and morality. The
amalgamation allows contemporary recreation and reimagination of traditional stories made accessible to the current
audience to enjoy, while maintaining the quality of the Tamil language and the cultural integrity and authenticity.
The performance will utilize shadow puppetry as its primary storytelling medium. Traditionally known as
‘Thol Paavai Koouthu’, the narrative unfolds using puppetry accompanied with music and storytelling to deepen the
engagement with the audience. The puppetry will weave various aspects and elements of the performance that may include
traditional folk-based dance theatre such as ‘Theru-koothu’, sounds inspired by folk music and storytelling such as ‘Villu-Paatu’
and the usage of modern Artificial Intelligence sketches and animation. What sets this production apart from the usual is
its site-centric nature of the presentation, where the location becomes an integral part of the storytelling. The performance
will be designed to interact with the environment, where the audiences are expected to rove through the performance space,
blurring the boundaries between stage and audience. This approach will engage and immerse the audience on multiple levels,
inviting them to experience the theme in a dynamic setting. The performance being a hybrid, incorporates digital projections,
ambient soundscapes, and possibly augmented reality to enhance the shadow puppetry, creating a multi-sensory experience.
Incorporated with traditional folk music and dance, it aims to heighten the emotional resonance of the stories told, ensuring
constant engagement and appreciation of the Tamil language. Through this innovative showcase, the project aims to
preserve and promote Tamil cultural heritage while offering a compelling, contemporary theatre experience.

Sec/JC/MIIn Tamil history, hair has never been just hair. It is a symbol of grace, pride, and power. Kannagi and Draupathi let their hair
oose as vows of justice, while Tamil kings guarded their locks as treasures of honour. A single verse about hair once led to a
clash between Shiva and Nakeerar. Such is the weight of hair in our culture. மேல் Pattern takes this timeless symbol and brings
it into today’s world with wit and laughter. The play follows Mannan, a man deeply in love with his own hair, only to watch it thin
away because of heredity. In his desperate attempts to preserve what he sees as his greatest asset, his marriage with
Niraimathi—a warm primary school teacher—begins to fray. His encounters with others who have faced the same battle
guide him towards a final decision: embrace himself as he is, or surrender to the surgeon’s chair for a hair transplant.
The stage sparkles with sharp dialogues, rhythmic prose, and humour steeped in Tamil idioms, puns, and poetry. The
play opens with Mannan’s mock coronation, complete with thuthi in praise of his hair, echoing the grandeur once reserved
for Chola kings. Every scene is crafted to delight the ear, offering the audience the pleasure of listening to Tamil in its finest form—
precise, elegant, and playful. மேல் Pattern is more than a comedy; it is a chance to laugh, reflect, and rediscover the beauty
of our language. Audiences will leave not only entertained but also enriched, carrying home phrases, rhythms, and
expressions of good Tamil that linger long after the curtain falls.
