| PURPOSE: To confirm that the horse demonstrates correct basics, by showing suppleness both laterally and longitudinally, moving freely forward in a clear rhythm with a steady tempo, and readily accepting contact with the bit. Correct geometry and lines of travel should be shown. | RIDER # | 10058-1 | Link: | https://youtu.be/LWAsDjqm738?si=qqzeupU_ldvGnbUB

| 1 | A X | Enter working trot Halt, salute Proceed working trot | Regularity and quality of trot; willing, calm transitions; straightness; attentiveness; immobility (min. 3 seconds) | 5.5 | 5.5 | quite crooked in halt and unable to maintain immobility, halt must be held for full 3 seconds. try to start doen the CL at A rather than to the left as you are already left of CL and horse wants to continue to fall left
| 2 | C B | Track right Circle right 20m | Regularity and quality of trot; shape and size of circle; bend; balance | 6 | 6 | maintains steady tempo but tense strides. circle is a nice shape and there are moments of supple bend but they are not consistent- issues with straightness on long side coming into and out of circle
| 3 | KXM | Change rein | Regularity and quality of trot; straightness; bend and balance in corner | 6 | 2 | 12 | poorly balanced at K and leaves arena, fussy over diagonal and bracing, counter bending thru corner at M. as horse tenses, rider leans forward more, as rider leans forward, horse becomes more tense....try to keep upper body in line with hips and relax thru lower back
| 4 | Between C & H | Working canter left lead | Willing, calm transition; regularity and quality of gaits; bend and balance in corner; straightness | 5.5 | 2 | 11 | transition is very late and horse is slightly looking to the outside, trans is a little explosive and strong but managed nicely by rider

| 6 | Between E & K | Working trot | Willing, calm transition; regularity and quality of gaits; straightness; bend and balance in corner | 6 | 6 | rider managing straightness well despite horse's desire to throw HQ in. braced but obedient into the trot
| 7 | A Before A A | Circle left 20m rising trot, allowing the horse to stretch forward and downward while maintaining contact Shorten the reins Working trot | Forward and downward stretch over the back into a light contact, maintaining balance and quality of trot; bend; shape and size of circle; willing, calm transitions | 5.5 | 5.5 | loses balance, bend, and shape of circle. rider leans forward and makes hands wide which encouragesw horse to fall onto forehand. try to stay back and push hands closer together and forward to the bit, bracing and hollow as rider picks up the reins
| 8 | F FE | Medium walk Change rein, medium walk | Willing, calm transition; regularity, overtrack, and quality of walk | 5.5 | 2 | 11 | tense, crooked, and incorrect rhythm
| 9 | EM M | Change rein, free walk Medium walk | Regularity and quality of walks; reach, overtrack, and ground cover of free walk allowing complete freedom to stretch the neck forward and downward; straightness; willing, calm transitions | 6.5 | 2 | 13 | pure, clear walk here with some beginning relaxation. try to ride the MW line in front of E so that your turn can be more rounded and horse is better balanced going into the FW. bracing against hand picking up reins
| 10 | C | Working trot | Willing, calm transition; regularity and quality of trot; bend and balance in corner; straightness | 5 | 5 | unclear rhythm and canter steps. rider is leaning down and hands are wide and braced
| 11 | E | Circle left 20m | Regularity and quality of trot; shape and size of circle; bend; balance | 6 | 6 | some tension on circel but circle is well shaped and rider using her posting well to try to modulate tempo, out of circle horse more tense and trot rhythm becomes less clear
| 12 | FXH | Change rein | Regularity and quality of trot; straightness; bend and balance in corner | 5.5 | 2 | 11 | poor feometry lowers score- ride to H with better balanced turn at F, horse anticipating and becoming more tense and hollow
| 13 | Between C & M | Working canter right lead | Willing, calm transition; regularity and quality of gaits; bend and balance in corner; straightness | 5.5 | 2 | 11 | transition well after M, crooked with HQ to iside and looking out, explosive

| Better moments this test and trot work overall more rhythmic. FW was quite good and shows that horse DOES have the correct walk but the tension in the MW interferes. Work on keeping yourself more upright and try to give to him whenever you can so that he is more trusting of the bit and wants to reach for it rather than bracing. Use your upper body as a balancing aid for the horse by not leaning forward and keep hands closer together so he is learning to carry his own balance. Good luck!
