TimestampWhich critical issue does your activity addressBriefly describe the activity & partner if you have one in mind (e.g. students will evaluate campus fertilizer applications & create a google earth map for groundskeeping):What data will be analyzed? (e.g. soil nitrate)Please provide a description & link to the relevant method &/or test kit. (e.g. Use these qualitative test strips and a KCl solution to extract nitrate from soil. links to test strips & soil extract). Do you have any suggested introductory readings that might provide context to students?

2/14/2018 10:00:23Water QualityStudents will evaluate stormwater storage potential on campus in grassy areas that are downslope of parking lots. They will share information with groundskeeping.soil textureUSDA, Soil Texture by Feel: https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detail/soils/edu/?cid=nrcs142p2_054311
Describes how to test for soil texture using your hands.

USDA, Soil Quality Physical Properties:
https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/nrcs142p2_053289.pdf
Describes ranges of infiltration rates associated with soil types. This is very qualitative, but would be good for comparing sands vs. clays to make recommendations.

2/28/2018 16:12:13Water QualityWater testing and invasive species removal along Clear Creek. Invasive plants are threatening the identified habitat of two threatened species in the area. The removal will reduce the amount of pesticides being used on site. The wetlands habitat will be monitored for water quality over a two year period. The students will be using the knowledge learned in this project to develop a similar plan for our campus wetland areas. We are partnering with the Sierra Club, Jefferson Conservation District and local Parks employees.pH, DO, macroinvertabratespH meters are being used, nets and trays for the macroinvertabrates, standard water testing kits for other components (haven't selected yet)We are using multiple sources including USGS materials, and publications on the invasive and threatened species
