7/9/20148 hoursI arrived at the Imperial War Museum Duxford in Duxford, United Kingdom around 9:30 am. We walked to the Land Warfare museum and viewed the various trucks, artillery pieces, and tanks. As soon as I got inside, I looked for a museum worker whom I can ask about the kind of work that goes on at a museum. The first person I met was a Museum Assistant named Bernard Olley. I talked to him about Duxford museum and how he sees the museum from the perspective of a worker. As we walked around the various exhibits, I also asked him about his job, what he does, what he thinks about, and why he continues to do it. As lunch time was approaching, I parted ways with Mr. Olley and left the Land Warfare museum. After I grabbed a bite at a cafe, I continued to look at the various exhibits and look for another worker I could talk to. When I visited the Museum’s restoration hanger, I was able to speak to a Conservation Officer named Gordon Turner. Similar to Mr. Olley, I talked to Mr. Turner about the work he does at the museum. After talking for a great length, we parted ways and I continued to look around the museum and ended my stay at 5:30 pm.8 hours

8/2/20142 hoursI visited the Planes of Fame museum for the Korean War Airshow and to look for Mrs. Novak, concerning my volunteering. I spent 2 hours looking at the various museum artifacts and asked the museum volunteers about Mrs. Novak’s whereabouts. I found her walking alongside her grandchildren. I asked her about my volunteering at the museum and when the next orientation is scheduled so that I can begin working. She said that she would arrange a special orientation for me as a cleaner so that I can start working immediately and that all she needs to do is contact the Detailer who will train me. After we said our goodbyes, I left the museum.10 hours 5 minutes

The receptionist at the front desk directed me to the Volunteer Department at the California Science Center to contact concerning volunteer orientation. After speaking with her, I looked around the museum and the various exhibits.11 hours 28 minutes

8/14/20144 minutes (call)I received an email this morning from Mrs. Valerie Thompson, Volunteer Manager at the California Science Center, about the next volunteer orientation scheduled August 19, 2014 from 10 am to 12 pm. I called Mrs. Valerie Thompson about when I can start volunteering after the orientation. She said that 1 week after the initial orientation, volunteers have to be assessed by a representative of the various department(s) to see if we are eligible for work. Once the volunteers have been assessed and deemed eligible, we then begin training and start volunteering from there on.11 hours 33 minutes

8/17/20142 hoursI revisited the Planes of Fame museum around 9:30 am. I reattempted to contact to Mrs. Cindy Novak personally about my orientation, but found out from the woman in the gift shop that she is not available on Sundays. I spent the rest of my two hours there taking pictures of the objects, looking at the various facilities that I hope to end up working at, and looking at the various exhibits that I could fix when I start working as a cleaner.13 hours 34 minutes

8/19/20141 hour 30 minutesI arrived at the California Science Center for the volunteer orientation at 9:30 am. The volunteers who applied were greeted at the lobby by Mrs. Mira around 10 am. Mrs. Mira works at the Volunteer Department at the California Science Center. We toured the various sections of the center and showed us the various exhibitions and stations that we can choose to work in. After she showed us the aquatics exhibition, we took the elevator to the Volunteer Department. We were gathered into a meeting room where Mrs. Mira explained to us our rights as volunteers, briefly described to us our job options, volunteer benefits, etc. After I filled out the required paperwork, I left the Volunteer Department at 11:30 am. I went around the museum and left around 12 o clock.15 hours 4 minutes

I informed him that my teachers will call him within a week to confirm, that I spoke with him at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. 8/22/20141 hourI visited the California Science Center at 3:30 pm for my appointment with Stephanie to begin training at the California Science Center. I talked to a women in the reception desk who used her radio to contact Stephanie about my appointment. Stephanie arrived 15 minutes later and had me fill out a series of questions that describe my working personality and what days and times of the week I can volunteer. After I turned in the questions, Stephanie asked me what jobs I was intrested in and if I could speak more than one language. After Stephanie finished asking me questions, I was told that I would attend a volunteer / training orientation at Sunday from 8 am to 5 pm. I thanked Stephanie for giving me the chance to volunteer and i left the Science Center around 4:30 pm.16 hours 14 minutes

8/24/20148 hoursAs told by Stephanie, I arrived at the museum around 8 am for orientation. A little past 9 o' clock am and still no response. I talked to a front desk worker named Nick about training and he said he would radio Stephanie for an answer. I was able to talk to Stephanie a few minutes later and she said that orientation starts at 10 o' clock am. At 10 o' clock am, the volunteers and I were greeted by Mrs. Diamond who would be in charge of us during our training. Mrs. Diamond escorted us to the employees only section where she should us one of the three break rooms, the security guards' areas, lockers, bathrooms, where we clock in, the notification board, and the results from surprise inspections. After this, we visited the IMAX theater where we watched Island of Lemurs: Madagascar 3D. We returned to the main building where Mrs. Diamond had the volunteers look for information around the museum that guests would ask volunteers for and to have lunch before meeting up with her at 1:00 pm. We regrouped with Mrs. Diamond at 1:50 pm where she escorted us to the volunteer department to fill out paperwork, particapate in a team-based activitiy, give us our uniforms, go over volunteer duties, volunteer benefits, and decide on our work schedule. Our orientation ended around 4:50 pm and I left the Center at 5:00 o' clock pm.24 hours 14 minutes

8/30/20144 hoursI arrived at the California Science Center around 9:30 am to begin my 6 months at the science center. Because of my uniform, a worker let me into the entrance before opening hours. Through there I was able to talk to Mrs. Stephanie about my area of operations and my volunteer badge. She had a worker escort me to her office where I was given my volunteer badge. I made my way to the volunteer log-in computer to start my shift. I went back to the front desk where Stephanie paired me up with a volunteer named Matthew. She assigned the both of us to the Air & Space Exhibition located on Phase I (The Main Building) and The Endeavor California Story on Phase II (Left Wing) and suggested that we switch areas every now and done. Following Mrs. Stephanie's advice, for the rest of my four hour shift, Matthew and I switched between the various sections. As I made my rounds, I greeted the guests, asked if they needed help, instructed children how to use the Wright flyer simulator, offered and/or took the pictures of families, talked to my follow staff workers, instructed guests how to get to the Endeavor Space Shuttle using a map from the front desk, and told a guest (who was at the Science Center while waiting for the USC game as he and his group were wearing USC fanfare) who was holding a Coco's Light Beer bottle to put it away as it was Science Center policy not to permit beverages (especially acholic beverages). After I clocked out, I asked Mrs. Stephanie about my worked schedule. Mrs. Stephanie clarified a few things and said that I did a great job today as she and several other people observed me from afar. After talking with Mrs. Stephanie, I used my volunteer badge to buy some discounted pins for my uniform and I left the California Science Center around 2:10.4 hoursFirst Day at the California Science Center

9/20/20144 hoursI arrived at the California Science Center around 9:40 am where I went to backroom to login. The staff was gathered at the museum lobby where we had a small group meeting about the new features of the museum. After that, my job was mostly making my rounds around the museum, pointing people to the nearest bathroom, showing them the path to the Endeavor, taking pictures for guests, and bringing a lost purse to the Front Desk until 2. Mrs. Mayra held an ice cream party for volunteers as appreciation. Other than that, I left the museum around 2 o clock.8 hours

9/28/20144 hoursI arrived at the California Science Center around 9:50 am where I went to the backroom to login. The staff was gathered at the museum lobby where we had a small group meeting about the new features of the museum. After the meeting, I made my rounds around the museum, going from California Story to Air and Space and recieved a uniform jacket. A Asian woman fell from the escalator while she was taking a picture of the elevated jets at the main lobby (FYI she fell forward from the top of the escalator), so I had to check if her injuries needed medical attention. After my rounds were completed, I left the museum around 2:10 pm.12 hours

10/12/20144 hoursI arrived at the California Science Center around 9:40 am where I went to the backroom to login. Once again, we had a small staff meeting before going out to our various work stations. After the meeting, I made my rounds around the museum, going from California Story to Air and Space. I took pictures for some Caucasian, Filipino, and Japanese groups. I had to escort somebody out of the museum upon his request. After work, I was able to see the Endeavor with the shuttle doors open. Upon my parents request, I let them into the Endeavor exhibit for free. We left the area around 2:45 pm.16 hours

I took pictures for a few visitor groups, answered some questions, and told a guy to put away his cigarette. After work, I left the museum around 2:00 pm.20 hours

I met a guy from the Space Shuttle Support Center (can't remember the name as of now) and asked him questions about his work. After work, I left the museum around 2:00 pm.32 hours

12/28/20144 hoursI arrived at the California Sceince Center around 10:00 am. I was sent by Mrs. Stephanie to the California Story. For some strange reason, this weekend was the busiest weekend of the month, with California Story filling up with 300 people at 10:20 am whereas normally there's about 20-50 people by this time. We resorted to using the lines for once and I had to be working most of the time. After work, I left the museum around 2:00 pm.40 hours

1/11/20154 hoursI arrived at the California Science Center around 9:40 am. I attempted to contact Mrs. Stephanie to upgrade my badge to the 18+ badge, but she was occupied the whole day due to it being the Pompeii exhibit's last or one of the last days. I spent the day at California Story manning the room and helping any stranglers from the Pompeii exhibit. The highlight of my day was that I heard from a worker that a guest tried to strangle one of our workers. When I asked the worker about it, he mentioned, but I don't know for sure, that the person who strangled him was the worker who told me about it. After work, I left the area around 2:05 pm.44 hours

1/19/20154 hours 20 minutesI arrived at the California Science Center around 10:00 am. I was able to find Mrs. Stephanie in the morning who told me to send her an email with my picture, full name, height, and eye color. I went to my station at California Story but due to some spicy hot wings I had the day before, I was leaving on and off to use the restroom. When I returned to my station after break, I saw that was a man holding a jewerly box. I noticed that their was the patch of the first endeavor mission inside along with a necklace that looked similar to the image on the patch. I talked to the man and he told me that his name was Paul Dimitriu and that he was the jewerler for all astronauts starting from Endeavor mission 1. I took a picture with him and parted ways, but when I say that the picture was low quality, I decided to take a reshoot. I found him again later where I took a reshoot with him and his jewerly and he gave me his business card. I parted ways again saying, but as I was leaving, I remembered that since he was a jeweler for astronauts that he must have some space related stuff. I found him again and suggested to him the idea of donating part of his collection to the museum since we were going to open a new Air and Space wing in the future. Dimitriu and his family loved the idea and said that I should secure him a contact for this. After consulting with a staff member, I went to Mrs. Stephanie and explained the situation. She took a copy of Dimitriu's business card and wrote a note on it for the Air and Space Collections manager when she comes to work on the weekdays. After that, Mrs. Stephanie told me "good job" and I left the building. As I was walking out, my mom came by to use the bathroom. I went to the movie theater lobby to wait, where once again I saw Mr. Dimitriu. I told him that I talked to management and that they should contact him within the week to which he was pleased. 9/13/20142 hours 10 minutesI arrived at Planes of Fame around 9:38 am in the morning. I was told by the woman at the gift shop that a representative of the volunteers would come to pick me and the other volunteers up from the museum. A few minutes later, a museum worker representing Mrs. Cindy Novak escorted us to the museum's theater. There he went over responsibilities as a museum worker, rights, basic but important safety protocoll, and the various jobs avavlible. Detailers (including me) stayed after the presentation where a representative of the Detailers went over our cleaning procedures and tools. The Detailer's wife escorted us around the premise where she should us our supply cabinet, the volunteer center/break room, and where we clock in and out. After she was done presenting, I went to the museum gift shop where I had to fill out a form saying that I will work at Planes of Fame. I was told to report next week to begin my training as a Detailer. I left the museum around 12.2 hours 10 minutesPlanes of Fame (Volunteer Orientation)

9/19/20147 hoursI arrived at Planes of Fame around 8:50 am to report to Mrs. Cindy Novak at the Volunteer Center. At around 9:10 am, Mrs. Cindy Novak discussed volunter duties to all the volunteers. After the discussion. Mrs. Cindy Novak, processed the new Detailers into the volunteer database. We were shown around by a Detailer about where our supplies were, which planes we can or cannot clean, and how to properly clean specific planes. For the rest of my time there, the other Detailers dusted most of the airplanes at the Jet/Racer hanger. I left the museum around 4:10 pm.9 hours 10 minutes

I was sent to the foreign hangar where I dusted the He 100 (plane), dusted/cleaned a WWII BMW motorcycle and motorcarriage, dusteed a Bachem Natter Ba349 replica, dusted a MG34 Machine Gun (Replica), and dusted a V-1 Flying Bomb (Replica). I also helped set for a wedding reception in the main hangar of Planes of Fame. I left the museum around 2:45 pm.14 hours 10 minutes

I attented the monthly event today where I got to meet Michael V. Ciminera, author of The Aircraft Designers A Grumman Historical Perspective (one of my research check books). I attended the monthly living history event where I heard some speakers talk about their books and service days. After the speakers were done talking, I went outside to watch the F4U Corsair fly. 11/15/20145 hoursI arrived at the museum around 9:50 am. I was assigned by Mrs. Cindy Novak to assist a worker on the restoration of the B-17G. The worker had me carry a piece of wood for him and told me to dust and clean the radio room of the B-17. After cleaning the radio room, I went to the Planes of Fame book fair event and attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of the library. After the ceremony and some lunch, I went back to the B-17 with another worker to clean the tail section and the radio room. Around 2, I watch the F-86 Sabre take off for the Mojave desert to do a flybye as memorial to the guy who died in the Virgin Galactic incident. I left the museum around 2 pm.39 hours 40 minutes

11/22/20145 hoursI arrived at the museum around 9:55 am. I did various odd jobs throughout the day. I cleaned some of the ropes in the Restoration Hanger to which Mrs. Cindy liked. I helped move some model airplanes from storage to the new model room. I dusted the Gee Bee Model R plane. I was cleaning the wheel carriage and the wheels of the Gloster Meteor to which Thomas much appreciated. He took a picture of me cleaning the wheels to update his powerpoint presentation for volunteer orientation. I left the museum around 2 pm.44 hours 40 minutes

We had two pilots and one nurse who had served during the Battle of the Bulge as guest speakers who talked about their experiences during this time. After the show I was able to talk to the nurse and was able to get a photo and her memoir book at a discounted price due to a signature error and lucky timing. I continued cleaning the wheels of the Gloster Meteor from the previous week. I left the museum around 2 pm.54 hours 40 minutes

One was the son of a WWI aviator and famous aviation director while the other was a historian who compiled various facts and interviews about aviation in film. I continued cleaning the wheels of the Gloster Meteor from the previous week and discovered to my chargin that at one point, I started removing some of the paint of the plane so I left and went to the foreign hangar. I left the museum around 2 pm.63 hours 40 minutes

She showed the two weeks of homework that I was unavaible for such as drawing circles, letters, and drawing picture. After the assignment and her lesson, I thanked Professor Au for allowing me to stay. I left the area around 9:00 pm.3 hours

She warned us of common CAD mistakes we've been making and warns us not to make these during the final. She also warned us that if we do not finish both computer and hand drawings within two hours that we would fail. She told us that she would give us a five minute warning before it was due and on 6:23 pm the exam started. I failed to meet the two hour deadline, getting stuck in details brought up during computer drawing and the slow pace of copying it by hand, and turned it in 10-20 minutes late. I do not know the reprecussions of this action. Following this, I had to turn in a stick containing my drawings and had to email Proffesor Au my Final Exam Drawing. 12/8/20143 hoursI arrived at the classroom around 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm. After some last minute goodbyes and preparation, Professor Au gave us our tests ans said we had until 7:00 pm to finish the test. I finished putting my answers around 6:30 pm but purposely stalled to compose myself on one or two hard questions, make sure I got the questions that I already answered right, and say goodbye to a few people. I turned in my test, but she told me to look at it again. After a while, Professor Au just took my test and corrected it since I approached the point where I was just BSing stuff. When I finished my assignment Mrs. Stephanie told me that she had to leave and told me to give her the list another time.
