Double-click to read more ▼ ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── A quick intro: Hi there, I created this recommendations list mainly for new players looking to get into this whole AVN thing, so keep that in mind if you are more of a "veteran" gooner I mean player. The main or default view of this list doesn't represent my personal tastes, I've tried to curate a top 100 list with the AVNs I've found are the most interesting, or well made, or that have a lot of potential moving forward, or a combination of all of the above, but I'm also trying to have a good amount of variety, because my hope is that both new players and veterans alike might discover something they could potentially enjoy... so don't expect to like every single AVN listed in the top 100, obviously, but I can at least guarantee that they're worth a look for one reason or another (read my thoughts on each game to get a better idea, if you want). You'll also notice there are waaaay more than just a 100 AVNs listed in here, and well, that's because I also use it as my personal tracker, but I figured I might as well put everything in here so that if someone was looking for completed games, for example, well they could see all the ones I've played/tried and maybe something will grab their attention. Lastly, if you have some time, please read the text below to get a bit more info about the list itself and how it works and all that jazz... Okay that's it, thanks bye! ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── ***I've made some format/info changes, I'll list them so you're aware of them: ► I've started adding 2D/hand-drawn AVNs to the list... I will however not add any AI slop (unless there's a stand-out one, but it'll be an exception, at most), oh and I mean the "generative AI" CG ones, I don't have an issue with creators using AI filters or other assistance tools. ► In the text panels (the F column) you'll now find: The name of the game, the version I played in parenthesis next to it (that's mainly for my own benefit) and then a small blurb with my comments on each game. Once you double-click on each panel you'll see a synopsis, a list of places where the game is available, and then some additional comments whenever I have more to say about a game, which won't always be the case. ► I've recently added/changed some tags in the columns above (J to Z), be sure to check the info below to see what they are and mean. Hopefully these are more useful to quickly find something you're looking for. Remember you can further filter things. ►Oh also, a new development: You'll probably notice some completed games have a yellow asterisk, and that is due to what I think is a new trend in the AVN "genre" where devs are just tagging their games as "completed", when they are not... so instead of splitting their games by seasons, they're just splitting them by "sequels" now, because apparently consumers are all fucking idiots and we can't notice the bullshit from a mile away? I don't know, it's a worrisome trend and let's hope it doesn't continue... it's fucking stupid. Point being: If you see an asterisk in the completed tag, make sure to double click on the info panel, I usually try to explain the situation with those games, sometimes it's a "sequel" situation, but I'll also use it to note stuff like remakes and whatever else might need noting. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── How to order/filter the list of games: I designed this spreadsheet so you can order things in various ways to find something quicker by using the columns (from left to right): -NAME: Use this column to organize by name. -STATUS: Use this to organize by status, i.e. "completed", "abandoned", etc... Types & kinks: -2D: Use this to view all games with 2D/hand-drawn visuals... no AI slop!!! -ANI (anime): Use this to view all games with anime/manga-style visuals (HS1, HS2, KOI games). To order any column, right-click on the corresponding letter and click on "sort sheet A to Z" (use Z to A for the Score column). To further filter the list, once you sort a column, a small arrow will appear below the letters of every column, click there and uncheck the "NO" option to only see the games in the chosen category, or uncheck "YES" to hide that category. You can combine filters from various columns to do targetted searches by checking or uncheking the options in various columns, like only showing completed fantasy harem AVNs, for example. I recommend using a 75% zoom and the "Full screen" option in the "View" menu... and you can always press F11 for an even fuller screen. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Regarding the star system: The star system is meant to be interpreted as a general overview of what the game offers and NOT as a scoring system. Obviously, though I try to be as objective as possible, it's simply impossible to give an accurate value to things in this way... suffice to say, I give an amount of stars depending on my overall "gut feeling" about the game (I have my own internal metrics for determining that, but it would take me too long to explain), and again, do not take it as a judgement, but rather an impression... it's not an exact science. However, even though I don't like doing it, I'm also including a "number score" so that people can sort things by "score". Just take into account that this score is just an aggregate number value (out of 10) derived from the star system, so it's not very precise or representative of its respective game, because, for example, it's unfair to games that have no music or no animations, which is something that might matter more or less to different players. That said, if you're looking for a "best of" kind of list, you might as well sort the list by score (Z to A), it should give you a generally accurate idea, since like I said, I do try to be as objective as possible with the stars. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Regarding the tags: They should be pretty self-explanatory, but just so we're clear: -NON-LINEAR means games where you choose your next action/activity/scene and you progress the story at your own pace. As he is cast into freshman life and persuaded to join the up-and-coming fraternity Delta Iota Kappa, he'll be exposed to a new world filled with conflicts, alcohol, drugs and sex. Available on: Patreon / Steam / GOG ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: * SEASON 3 is currently in development. Why is this game number one? Well, if you've played it you probably know why already, but if you haven't, I'll try to keep it short: This is pretty much the "fullest package" you can find when it comes to AVNs, or the closest you'll get to a proper game, so to speak. It has most of what you can expect to find in this genre of games and much more, so this is basically the most feature-rich AVN out there. From a truly mind-boggling amount of branching, which means that even the most seemingly insignificant choice can have an impact down the road (in this game, choices DO matter), to a veeery large amount of content, full of humor, drama and a big cast of well written, well developed and fully fleshed-out characters with whom you can interact. Plus a whole bunch of (optional) mini-games - though to be fair, some are quite annoying and pointless, but some others are quite intricate and more fun, and they also have an impact on the story - that in the end all provide an extra layer of entertainment to be found in here. Oh and it's worth noting that you won't encounter any bugs or issues, which is rather impressive in and of itself, considering the sheer amount of coding that goes into the game. The story itself is rather on the generic side of things, borrowing heavily from the stereotypical formula of "college comedies" in the vein of American Pie and the likes, but with an additional layer of soap opera drama. However, where the game shines is in the character and dialogue writting, this AVN goes very deep when it comes to its characters and they all feel, maybe not "real", but like fully fleshed people you can get invested in. The overall production quality is also quite good. No, it doesn't have the best renders or the best animations in the genre (though I have to point out that it has A LOT of lewd content), far from it, but it does a more than adequate job and the visual story telling is very solid too. The overall presentation of the game is also top-notch, from the UI elements to all the mini-game designs, it's (mostly) all clear and easy to understand, except for a few of the earlier free roams. Last thing I want to touch on is the music. This is the best AVN when it comes to both quantity and quality of the music. The dev is very good at choosing the right songs for the right moments in order to enhance the emotional impact of a scene, really improving the overall experience of the game. So yeah, this game is just MASSIVE in every sense of the word and there just aren't many other AVNs that can even compete with it. Some will have better stories or visuals, but this one kinda has everything, even though you might not necessarily like the whole "college" theme. Now, as for the negatives with this title: Well, it's simple really, it takes waaay too long to develop. At this point each new update is taking over a year and it will only increase with each episode. Additionally, the dev is extremely stubborn and insists on the game being a one-man show, when he could easily hire some people to help out (given the game has sold literal millions by this point), plus he also happens to be extremely self-indulgent, which is a bad combination. He really needs someone to tell him "no, don't do this, this is stupid", like with his newest stupid idea of making 60fps animations... there's absolutely no point to it. But oh well, that's how it is and we're stuck with extremely long waiting periods. The visual side is also of impeccable quality, with some of the hottest animated sex scenes you'll see in an AVN. That said, some of the themes in the game might be a turn-off for a lot of players. Available on: Patreon / Itch.io ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: Let's get our first content warning of the day out of the way... yes, the game features some potentially objectionable themes and kinks due to the nature of the story itself, so you'll see a good amount of BDSM- adjacent and (arguably) pretty rough humilation content. But, and that's a big fat butt, don't let that stop you from at least trying this game out. Let me explain... the premise of the story is as follows: a small group of "down on their luck" women participate in a sordid contest run by a sadistic lady working for a shady gentlemen's club, and the MC is hired to help run the contest, which allows the player a certain degree of freedom to either be a nice guy or an asshole. Trust me though, it sounds worse than it is. Yes, there are a couple of pretty gross scenes, not gonna lie, but on the flipside I can guarantee none of it is (too) gratuitous... like I mentioned above, the game has arguably some of the best writing in the genre that allows it to deftly navigate the line between morality and depravity, which is what this game is ultimately about, and it succeeds far better than most other AVNs that attempt to do the same. But besides the more objectionable happenings within the confines of the club, you'll also find a cast of fully fleshed-out characters with a lot of depth and layers, and yes, there's also plenty of "wholesomeness" in there as well, you just need to give the game a chance to show that side of the story and you'll be rewarded for your troubles (unless you act like a fucking dickbag, of course... dealer's choice). So yeah, the writing is really good and the rest of the package doesn't fuck around either, from the crisp visuals, great visual storytelling and insanely hot and steamy sex scenes, to a pretty large amount of content and a pristine overall presentation, the game boasts some of the best quality the genre has to offer. Let me put it this way: if Being a DIK wasn't a thing, this game would easily be at the top of the AVN mountain... it's that good... and if that doesn't somehow convince you, then I don't know what else I could say. It has lots of humor and likeable characters and an intriguing plot... however the story can lose focus at times and feel a bit side-questy. Top tier Honey Select game. Double-click to read more ▼▼ ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Official synopsis: You’re moving with your best friend to the city of Kredon, home to some of the best schools and universities in the country, to continue your studies. However, in Kredon, there’s only one thing everyone talks about: ETERNUM—the virtual, hyper-reality MMORPG game released a few years ago that revolutionized the world of technology. With a neural implant that recreates the five senses, it becomes impossible to distinguish between the game and the real world. Thousands of servers form the network of Eternum: from colorful, magic-filled fantasy worlds to foggy sci-fi cities, no world is beyond reach. Nevertheless, looking beyond the surface, there's a darker side to this pretty facade: black markets, torture, rape, illegal content trafficking, unlawful assemblies, data theft… Eternum follows the rules of no man. For some reason, governments turn a blind eye to this; there’s no regulation and no control. However, this ain't about me or my tastes and this game is objectively really high quality. In fact, despite me not liking it, I always check every new update, because I admire how good the game is in a technical level and I always look forward to seeing what the dev does next. Which is to say the game has pretty much good everything. Visuals are always impressive and the dev keeps improving with every new update. The animations, which are rather weak in the first chunk of the game have also gotten a HUGE improvement, it's night and day. And in terms of music and sound effects, the game also does more than a good job. The choice of story is quite clever, because it allows both for the dev to make use of pretty much every asset out there, but also for the story to explore multiple different worlds, keeping things continually fresh and interesting for players. That said, therein lies the biggest flaw of the game, because at times the story feels like it's spinning in place, just going from one side quest to the next without much progression. I'm sure it won't be as much of a problem if you end up falling in love with the characters and spending time with them, regardless of what's happening with the plot. That was sadly not my case, but I'm sure a lot of people will endear themselves to the large cast of likeable and fun (and smoking hot!) characters. Needless to say, it's not surprising that so many people think this is the best AVN, yes, even above Being a DIK. I don't agree, but I can certainly see the argument for it. Good visuals and animations (good sound editing too), full of action scenes, interesting characters and plenty of sex content. Double-click to read more ▼▼ ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Official synopsis: It has been many years since the End of Days. Old civilizations collapsed, and new ones are slowly arising in what is now an arid wasteland somewhere in Egypt. Desert Stalker puts the player in the shoes of the titular MC, a citizen of Zeta, as he interacts with various people that are trying to find their place in this new world. Throughout the game you will meet girls and their tribes, slaves and their Queens, and whether you are taking a romantic or dominant approach, your actions may decide more than just their fates. Available on: Patreon / Itch.io / SubscribeStar / Steam ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: Oh this game definitely merits a good old content warning, both for the sexual content, but also for the sheer graphic violence the game offers, though it's worth noting that you can toggle off the more violent stuff. (And a quick warning about "sharing", for the NTR cry-baby crowd!) This is another game where the player can decide if they want to act in a more vile or more honorable way, but make no mistake, the world this story takes place in is abso-fuckin'-lutely brutal and there's no real way to avoid that much. Like I mentioned, this game borrows from several post-apocalyptic tales in order to expertly weave a very interesting and lore-rich world, filled with many different types of people and creatures you'll get to interact with, within a sprawling plot full of political machinations and mysteries from the past that will take you for a literal ride all over the sandy wasteland of a post-apocalyptic Egypt that has reverted to a retrograded tribalistic hellscape where the worst human impulses have been set loose. It's no wonder then that you'll encounter some really disturbing shit in this game, but it all makes sense within the context of the story, and it rarely feels like things happen just for the sake of cheap thrills and titillation. Still though, if you're into "wholesome" romatic vanilla games, you might want to skip this one. As for the rest, the visuals and animations are pretty good - although the character designs are a bit on the cartoony side of things, it almost feels like post-apocalyptic Aladdin at times, which sounds kinda fuckin' awesome, not gonna lie - and the music and sound design are very well crafted to help create an eerie and unsettling mood. Lastly, a quick rant: I've seen this game frequently recommended as the "ultimate maledom" AVN or for people looking for a giga-chad MC, and I have to disagree... I mean, sure, there are some elements of that, but curiously or ironically enough (and probably because it is an AVN), what passes for a "society" in this game is actually a matriarchy of sorts, where women act as rulers and leaders more often than not. Even within the confines of the MC's household, the wife serves as a matriarch to the family, and feels more like a partner-in-crime, rather than just a cum-dumpster without any shred of agency. In fact, most female characters are rather well written (with some exceptions) and you will even be able to take control of one of the MC's daughters as she embarks on an adventure of her own (also optional). My point being that people who think this is just an incel's wet dream of sexual domination might actually be missing a big part of the point of story that is presented in here... it's hella more nuanced than that. The game's just extremely well made in every single regard and everything is executed to almost perfection. Definitely one of the best new(ish) comers, if not the best, in recent memory. Available on: Patreon / Itch.io / Steam ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: Well, this is a pretty vanilla slice of life game, so it doesn't really need a content warning, and I don't have much else to say about it other than repeating what I said above: This game has a good story, very well written characters, great visuals and animations, and even a fun non-intrusive mini-game mechanic that is directly tied to the plot, and not just some gimmicky add-on to extend playtime. So yeah, this is a good example of how "good execution" looks like in an AVN... and even though it might still be too early in its development cycle, I'm just pulling the trigger on placing this in the top 10, since this is probably gonna end up being one of the best AVN projects in the future. However, the production quality is through the fuckin' roof, with great visuals, incredible animations and a very professional overall presentation. Double-click to read more ▼▼ ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Official synopsis: Los Angeles, 2042. A city ruled by corporations. A city ruled by the elite. A city that exemplifies the best and worst of the American Dream. Millions live their lives in almost blissful ignorance of the excesses of the rich, or the degradation of the poor. Executives hold more power than politicians, the police hold less power than corporate mercenaries. You are one of those mercenaries, one of the best, and elite tier called Ghosts... but you haven't taken a job in months. That is about to change. Elsewhere in the city, a young girl is about to become the center of a conflict that could tear the city apart. As you track her down you'll have allies and enemies, others like you who have been used by the city and spit out. Who will you trust? Who can you afford to? Each of them has their own dreams, their own motivations, each is broken in their own way. All of it will come together... In the City of Broken Dreamers Available on: Patreon / Steam ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: Just a light warning for some BDSM content, nothing too extreme. This is one of the most plot-oriented AVNs, the story is what is at the forefront here, which could be an issue if you don't like the futuristic/ cyberpunk themes or the more "noir" style of the writing. I found it dry, particularly at the start of it, and I had a hard time getting invested in the plot, but at some point it fortunately started coming together. Using a mostly first person perspective (or POV) for this one probably didn't help with that problem, since it's hard to get invested in the story of some faceless main character you can't really relate to. Besides that, like I said above, the weakest part of this game is in the relationships department, with most of the LIs (outside of the main two) feeling more like background characters you could easily excise from the plot without any consequence. What makes this game stand out far above its peers, though, is the insanely high production quality. The renders are simply gorgeous, and the game has this rather unique neon light-like visual style with lots of saturation and vibrant colors. The animations are also top notch, plus there are a lot of non-lewd animated action sequences that really spice up the game and prevent the plot from feeling too sluggish. The rest of the overall presentation is very professional as well, it looks and feels like a proper game, which is always appreciated. It's kinda crazy to think that when this game started coming out in 2019, if I'm not mistaken, it was one of the best looking AVNs, and now that it's finished in 2024, it still is one of the best in the genre... that's nothing to scoff at, all things considered. The visuals have improved a bit, but they were already very good so you might not even notice it. Playing this again reminded me of how similar it is to Eternum, in fact, one could say this is the DAZ Eternum... and for better or worse they share a lot of good things and not so good things. I have to admit that I was feeling the plot stray a bit too far from its main narrative, to the point where it started to feel a bit too side-quest-y, much like Eternum. Fortunately though, I find this game a lot less juvenile, so I was able to enjoy it more, but I do wish the dev(s?) will start getting on with it at a better pace next season. It's a comedic AVN, so you can expect a lot of absurdity and silliness, even though it's not as bonkers as other comedy AVNs in this list, but the premise alone should tell you what type of story it's gonna be. That said, don't be fooled by all the silly humor and witty banter, this game has a lot of quite dark and emotional plot threads that deal with abuse, depression, suicide and those types of things...but the game is able to expertly blend the comedic elements with the more dramatic scenes and manages to create a balanced and compelling narrative. So, even though it's a newer game, it's been hitting all the right notes needed to become a must play. Oh, speaking of which, your obligatory content warning for the afore- mentioned sharing, cheating, etc content... it's all avoidable of course, but NTR haters beware!!! As for the protagonists, you are forced to play both of them, so if you refuse to play as a female character, well, you might want to skip this one (and possibly seek professional help). Anyways... As with most (all?) other 2D/hand-drawn games, this game uses "sprites" or cut-out characters, but it has a fair amount of the more traditional cinematic panels, and the sex scenes have a decent amout of dedicated art to them, which is nice... the animations are very basic, they're very low fps, instead of the more fluid ones you might find in some other games or most 3D games, but they're honestly fine as is, the sex scenes do their job more than well enough. The writing is quite good, the characters are both well written and well fleshed out, with a decent amount of variety in terms of personalities and looks, plus they're a lot less tropey than what you'll find in most other AVNs, for what it's worth. This is a slice of life/relationship-sim game, so the plot itself is pretty whatever... it's not really the focus of the game. The audio is good enough, although due to the length of the game it can become repetitive pretty quickly... oh and there are some minor volume issues here and there with some moans being way higher than others, so be aware of that if you're trying to be a bit more discreet. Other than that, listen... this is a pretty long game with a shitload of branching and replayability value, and a pretty high overall quality... there's a lot to like in here and it's easy to see why it is considered an AVN staple (specially when it comes to the 2D ones). Last thing to note is that, as you can probably guess by the pseudonym, this is another female dev AND this game has a female main character, so this game, much like Intertwined just below, also brings a nice dose of diversity (and variety) both to this list and to the AVN genre at large. And there are enough reasons to recommend this game more than a lot of other "better" games, starting with the fact that the developer of this AVN is a woman, and while she's not the only female dev in the genre, there are certainly not a lot of them (to my knowledge). Of course, just having boobs isn't a seal of quality guarantee, but the dev is a very good writer, and particularly good when it comes to the visual storytelling side of things, with an eye for very appealing framing angles, lighting, and great character expression and reaction shots. When you couple that with the style of story this game offers, alongside a wide variety of well written and likeable characters with their unique personality traits and quirks (the game also has a lot of very realistic latino characters, which is pretty nice), plus very organic and natural sounding dialogues, this AVN ends up feeling like it has its own unique identity and style. The other reason to recommend the game is that it already has A LOT of content under its belt, and it has a pretty fair amount of branching too, which of course increases its replay value. The downsides all come from a more technical aspect, with the game using some older models and having repetitive and bloated animations, plus a notable lack of music and a weak overall persentation. That said, the dev makes it all work by overcoming those shortcomings with her storytelling skills, so it never feels like you're playing a low quality AVN. Obviously, none of that guarantees you will like the soap-opera aspects of the story, and like I mentioned above, it really feels like one of those CW-style teen drama shows in the vein of Riverdale and the likes (it's also very reminiscent of latin american "telenovelas"), with a lot of silly teenage drama and (quite often) ridiculous mysteries, cliffhangers and plot twists that will make your eyes roll all the way to the back of your skull... but hey, listen, that IS part of the soap-opera experience, so it's pretty accurate and faithful in that regard =P So yeah, this just feels more unique than the vast majority of AVNs that tend to borrow more from the manga/anime genre. Also, worth noting this AVN doesn't relly as much on all the incredibly tired anime tropes that plague most Honey Select games, which makes it stand out from its peers... it's not just another anime wannabe Besides that, not much to say, really... it's an intriguing premise full of mystery and time travel shenanigans, along a rather large cast of fun characters. Hopefully this game won't fall into the same trappings of similar games with a lot of LIs where the story completely grinds to a halt in order to accomodate a large cast... for the time being, it's been able to juggle everything quite well, so here is hoping. To this day I still don't know if it's supposed to be harem or not, or if there is intended incest or not, the dev has been obnoxiously vague about it, so I guess we'll need to see how it pans out in those regards, and that's pretty much it. Just a quick word about that "caveat" I mentioned above, because I do think it's somewhat relevant to the discussion: I'm referring to the poor quality of the renders in the roughly first and a half chapters or so... I am aware of the dev's sight issues, and in fact, I think it's a pretty unprofessional move to put a disclaimer for that at the start of the game, because here's the thing: as a fellow human being, I can very much empathize and feel for the guy, but as a player, and more importantly, as a customer, the reality of the matter is I just don't give a shit, and not because I'm heartless or callous, but because the only thing that I, and by extention we the players, should be interested in, is the product, or in this case the game itself, and every "dev" should be painfully aware of that notion. Enough of my rant tho... the point is that the game has some truly bad renders at the start of the game which the dev hasn't bothered to fix, or for the most part that is, since he did remake the very first scene. I think it's rather unfortunate that he decided to sell it on Steam as is... I still remember the first time I played the game and I was greeted with his amazing UI presentation, only to be incredibly let down by the visual quality that followed when I started a new game... I felt like I was lied to and that's not something you want your players to feel. Of course, as it often happens, the visual quality improves eventually and the game tends to look very good for the most part. There still are some really ugly looking renders later in the story, specifically during the halloween party, so I'm not really sure what's going on with the dev's sight situation, but it's a shame the game is so uneven. At any rate, I'm happy to report that those issues aside, this is still a top tier game with a high quality production value, and like I mentioned above, the dev is pretty good at writing dialogues, even though the pace of the story isn't the best at times. Very solid character development and an interesting enough story as well to round up the package. The one aspect where the game kind of fails is with the sex scenes... Honestly, there are not a lot of them (the game has a slow-burn pace), and the quality is not great either. Some of them are well animated, (the newer ones), but they are pretty short and lackluster... they feel more like they were wedged in because of a required porn quota. Warts and all, this is very much a must play AVN, despite my personal gripes with the visuals... truly one of the best in the genre. UPDATE: I bumped this down from the top 10 for several reasons, but mainly because this game was MIA for all of 2024, and that's never a good sign... still, for the moment, all the above comments remain true and let's hope the game gets back on track sooner rather than later. Available on: Patreon / SubscribeStar / Steam ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: The game has been finally fully completed (07/25), so I took the time to replay it fully in order to give it a final rating, and also, here are my final thoughts about it: Chasing Sunsets is a step-cest slice of life with a plot about corporate espionage/intrigue, but the main attraction without a doubt is the relationship building with the two main love interests... the story feels like merely a background plot device for the characters to exist in. The writing is technically fine, and it does a decent job with the banter between the characters, however, it tries to hide its shortcomings with a lot of awkward humor and a shit ton of references and more than a few absolutely useless and pointless cameos, but it's only a band-aid solution. Like I said above, the game is more interested in the relationships between the main characters, and in fact, the secondary characters don't receive nearly the same amount of attention which makes them feel forced into the story for the sake of plot convenience... in fact, some people might be disappointed by the lack of closure with those secondary characters. In terms of visulas, the game is really good looking and as is often the case with AVNs, the visuals will improve as you play along. As for the animations however, that's another story, since, while they're mostly fine, I've got to say that there just aren't a lot of them and surprisingly enough, the very last chapter has absolutely none and it's kind of a bummer to end the game like that, it makes the game feel like it's ending in a lower note, but the overall quality is pretty good, so there's that at least. All that said, this is a very popular AVN and it features one of the most popular and fan favorite characters in the genre, Jaye, and in fact, you might have already met her in other games, since she tends to have her own cameos everywhere too (don't get me started on that whole cameo thing, though, or we'll be here all week). Additionally, the dev has started adding animations to the earlier sex scenes, but there aren't many of those yet, and I'm not sure if there are plans for more or not... let's hope there are. This is a Koi game, so it looks extremely anime-like (more than the more common HS games), but the dev is really good at the visual story telling side of things and he manages to capture the "weirdness" of the story pretty well. The music is pretty neat too, albeit it will get a bit repeptitive because of the sheer length of the game. It also has partial VA for a few characters during certain scenes (not sure if more VA is planned or not either). In terms of the story, listen I'm gonna be blunt, this is not gonna be for everyone... it's a VERY long story (perhaps even excessively so, to the point where it can get a bit repetitive) full of high concepts that can be difficult to grasp or even follow, but I can tell you it's one of the most original and unique AVNs you'll find out there and honestly, it's one of the rare few AVNs I'd actually play/read without the boobies, because it's a really neat epic saga of a story... There are a few things I would like to note in here, but I don't want to be all over the place so I'll go point by point: Stoy and writing: Let's start here, this is more of a "traditional" fantasy adventure with vampires (not really a horror story) and the plot is quite good with a decent amount of political intrigue and a pretty good cast of characters. Season 3 felt a bit too side quest-y to me, if I'm being honest, and I'm a bit worried the same will be true of the next ones. The writing is generally speaking fine, albeit not the best written AVN out there, from a stylistical point of view, just good. Visuals and animations: Okay this is where it gets a bit messy, because I'm sure you noticed the very high score I gave it for both visuals and animations, but I have to warn any potential new players about the fact that Season 1's visuals and animations are more in the "average" range, and it is only when you reach season 2 and onwards where you will see a HUGE jump in quality, particularly for the animations... That said, at this point two thirds of the game look amazing and it's unlikely the next seasons will look worse, so I decided to omit the early quality from the score... just be aware that you won't be too impressed with the quality when starting, but be patient, the improvement is worth the wait. Audio: Now, when it comes to the audio side of things, I'm gonna be blunt, it kinda sucks... S1 and S2 have a very small amount of music tracks that keep repeating, and you'll probably end up muting the game. S3 adds a few more tracks and more importantly some SFX both during the sex scenes and also during some story beats... but I have to say, the quality of the music is honestly a detriment to this otherwise very high quality game... hopefully the dev will address this issue at some point. Other than that, it's a pretty vanilla game, so no need for any sort of content warning... there used to be a small incest component to the game, but it's been long removed and forgotten about... not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. So the game has been "completed" out of the blue (march 2025), but to be honest, it's more like the first season has been completed, however, it seems the game will continue in a hard sequel with a new title (House of Hearts, I believe?), therefore I will treat it as its own separate thing. So what's the final veredict? Well, I'd say pretty good overall. Like I said above, the game mostly suffers from bad translations, which definitely hurt the overall experience... they're not so bad that you can't follow the plot, but the game could certainly use a proper translation. To that point, and before I move on, I'll note here that there is a fan made but "dev approved" grammar fix patch, in case the dialogues are giving you too much grief. Other than that main issue, the game could've also used a few more improvements, particularly on the UI side of things, to make the mini- games clearer and more intuitive. As it is, you'll probably figure it out with a bit of trial-and-error, so it's not a huge deal. Speaking of which, one of the things that sets this AVN appart is those mini-games: The game allows you to take a more direct control during the sex scenes that will result in different outcomes depending on your "performance". It's both a good thing and a bad thing if you ask me, because it makes the experience more immersive but it also makes it a chore to just revisit the scenes for a quick wank... In the end though, I thought it was a neat idea, and it's at least something different in a very... let's say "unoriginal" genre. Beyond that, I thought the story was interesting enough, nothing mind- blowing by any stretch, but it was a good set up for what the game has in mind... which is to say, it all tracks. The characters are mostly well written and interesting enough for you to get invested in the plot (the dev has an obvious preference for milfs). Where the game really shines is in the visual side of things: it has some REALLY beautiful renders and animations. The dev uses a very striking high contrast/saturation lighting style that gives every frame of this game a unique artistic feel to it. The dev is also pretty good at creating sensual and passionate sex scenes that perfectly fit the "mood" of the visual style and the tone of the story, and the music, while not amazing or memorable, does a good job of complementing the scenes. So in short: it's a flawed game that offers a different and more unique experience than the vast majority of AVNs out there... your enjoyment will mostly depend on two things: your tolerance for bad translations and whether you like or not the mini-game mechanics during the sex scenes... I recommed at least giving it a try, though. Now, let me be clear about two things: 1) The story of this game is... well, I'd say stupid, but that would be a MASSIVE understatement... if you've ever watched even ONE single movie or TV show about lawyers and/or legal stuff you'll be able to tell how much this game is almost the opposite of how shit actually works, in fact, I have the theory that it's wrong on purpose, because there's no fuckin' way you could get it all so wrong by accident. So yeah, if you're looking for a plot that makes even a lick of sense, go somewhere else. This is a game about developing relationships with a pretty large cast of fun and charming characters in a completely unrealistic and absurd setting, but it does what it does pretty well. 2) The visuals aren't top notch, renders often have poor lighting, visual noise and artifacts up the waazoo, and same goes for the animations... however, again, it does a more than decent job with the visuals, and the animations themselves are well choreographed and honestly pretty hot (quite a lot of animted liquids too, which is rare). So, not high fidelity, but very well made nonetheless. This is a game you should play if you're looking for a fun lighthearted AVN with A LOT of branching to explore... and I do mean "explore", because sometimes the choices for the best outcomes aren't the most obvious ones... so provided you enjoy the setting and can get past the sheer idiocy of the plot, you should be able to sink a good amount of time in this one. On the bad news side of things, well, the development cycles are long, we're talking yearly updates at best, however the updates are pretty chunky, considering they have content for all routes, so it's not like the dev is sitting on his ass doing nothing... but yeah, be warned about that if you don't like such long waits between updates. Speaking of which, I should also point out that while this is a superhero themed AVN, this is more like The Boys, rather than your standard and vanilla MCU/DC fare of superhero stuff... in fact, I would describe this as The Boys but without all the extreme cynicism and bleakness of that show... it's the more grounded and grittier approach that makes me do that comparison, rather than the plot itself. I have to say, being a fan of comicbook shit, this just hits perfectly for me and it's one of my current favorite AVNs... the writing, while not perfect by any means, is really good an engaging and the characters are for the most part interesting and well fleshed out. The story is still getting developped, but so far it has been well paced and interesting. In terms of visuals, the game does a good job... it's not the prettiest AVN out there by any means, but the visual storytelling is good and the girls are hot and that's more than enough. Sadly, it has no animations, although I respect that the dev was self- aware enough to know that he is not skilled enough to pull those off with enough quality to be worth the extra development time, and the good news is, you probably won't miss them too much, because fortunately, the dev IS good enough to create some really hot and erotic sex scenes, even without animations. The music is not bad, but it could be better to be honest, that's about the one thing that could use a bit more effort. Lastly, there isn't a ton of it, but there is some branching, mostly concerning different routes for a couple of characters... so even though it's a harem game, it might warrant a couple of different saves, if only to see all the scenes in the gallery. Anyways, with Season 1 done, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what's next, because I've thoroughly enjoyed the ride so far and I am bumping this up to the "highly recommended" tier, just because of how solid and consistent it has been. Point being that if you want to avoid the more extreme sub paths, you'll probably want to use a walkthrough, because the choices aren't super obvious and you could easily fall into the sub paths. The dom path(s) aren't really all that domination-heavy, but more of a traditional harem kind of thing where the MC gets more power and agency and gets to fuck more chicks, instead of getting fucked over, metaphorically and literally speaking. Needless to say, despite the production quality not being the best there is (it looks pretty bad at first, but improves substantially as it goes on), the amount of branching between the two MCs alone would be enough for this game to get a high recommendation, since there are a lot of pretty different outcomes to explore based on your choices, and well, ideally that's what you want in a choice-based game, ain't it? The issue is that, well let's say that the original is a rather old title and it is pretty fucking ugly-looking for the first chunk of the game, hence the urgent need for a remake. Now, the reality of the matter is that you shouldn't expect any top-tier renders on the remake, but rather, they're bringing up the early parts up to the visual quality of the later parts, which are not the best looking visuals in the genre by any stretch of the imagination, mind you, but the improvements are night and day, both to the visuals and the overall flow of the story (they are also doing some rewrites), and more importantly, the game will now be a more even and streamlined experience than it is in the original version. Besides the marked visual improvement of the remake, they also added some background music (which is always nice), a lot of new scenes that really help to better flesh out some characters that didn't get as much love in the original version, along with a bunch of new and better quality animations. Like I said above, the story nows flows better and looks better, so yeah, really good all-around improvements. I guess the last question is: Should you get the Season 1 remake or the original version? Well, I mean, I guess you can always get both, but for new players I really recommend going with the rework/remake, it really is a much better experience as a whole, and maybe it's better to not spoil yourself too much... Aaaanyways, moving on: First of all, congrats to the dev for coming back and giving the game the last push needed to bring it to completion... yes, I'm aware the dev had to cut the game short from what he originally planned, but in the end, an earlier ending is definitely better than no ending, and if I'm being totally honest, the ending was largely fine... Now, could it have been better? Sure, it can always be better, but I've seen much worse endings in more popular AVNs, and ultimately, the ending does a good enough job of wrapping up the plot in a sufficiently satisfying manner, and well, that's all you need, but more importantly, the journey is very much worth it. Speaking of which, this is one of the better horror/survival AVNs out there, the dev did a fantastic job at conveying the atmosphere and the mood of the story, both through the visuals and the audio... there is tension, there is action, there is mystery and of course there is also a lot of eroticism and sexy times to be had. In fact, inadvertently, the game has a pretty nice pace and a good sense of "sexual crescendo"... it reaches its climax and it doesn't overstay its welcome like a lot of its peers... sooo, happy accidents, I guess =P It also happens to be one of the better incest AVNs out there, because of the setting of course, but also because of what I mentioned above and the solid character development in here. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the best written thing ever, but it does more than a good job. So in the end, this is a very solid (and now completed) AVN, specially if you're looking for horror themed stories. That could be a good or a bad thing depending on whether you find that kind of mechanic fun or not. Secondly, the game has a card mini-game that you can skip, but it's pretty fun and it seems that it might have more of an impact later on, we'll see... other than those two things though, there are no annoying sandbox elements. And as for the rest... well, it's a lighthearted and fun college game, very much in the "fuckfest" category (it would seem that a harem route will be possible, but I'm not a 100% sure on that), so don't expect anything too deep or super emotional. That said, it IS a pretty fun game full of charming characters and silly plot lines that should entertain you all the way through. The quality is pretty okay, well above average, although the animations and the audio could use some more work, and the game could also use a better logo... yeah yeah, not a priority, but still, presentation is king. I can definitely recommend this if you're just looking for fun sexy times and some college shenanigans sprinkled in between... it might be a good idea to also explore the different perks in the skill tree and see the results, because some of them can result in funny interactions. In terms of production quality, unfortunately there are no animations whatsoever, but the good news is that this game has some of the very best renders you'll find in any AVN... like, they're pristine, I wasn't able to find many issues in there, whether it be weird poses, bad lighting or clipping... it's all very immaculate. The music is fine and there are some sex sound effects. That said, the game lacks a replay gallery, which would be very welcome considering the amount of scenes that are dependent on the rather vast branching system the game offers... it'd be nice to at least have a clue of which scenes you might've missed. Which brings us to the writing: Overall the writing is pretty good, both in style and in a technical sense... however, the story might be a bit difficult to get into because of the weird(ish) premise and the complete lack of male characters... It also happens to be a teenage drama not unlike one of those CW TV shows, so it can be overly dramatic and pretty silly, but that's the type of story it's trying to be, so it's a success in that regard... I'm just giving you a heads up in case that's not your thing. The game has a surprisingly big amount of branching, which is always a plus, but infortunately it's not always intuitive, particularly in certain sections of the game (like the big party in chapter 6), and I'm not totally convinced with the way the game is split between three main paths for the MC (dom, sub and cuck, basically), I feel like there was a more elegant way to do that, but that's just me... branching is always good. Other than that, listen, this might be in the top 3 futa protag AVNs, so if you are into that type of thing, this game should be a no brainer, but I would also recommend this game to anyone open enough to brave the unusual premise, there's a lot of quality in here. Lastly, it's also worth noting that the game suffers from rather long development cycles, despite a lack of animations, which is always a red flag, but it also seems to be popular enough that some optimism might be warranted. Now, is the story amazing? No, it's not, it's silly and mostly lighthearted. Is the writing amazing? Not really, it's decent but that's about it. Is it the the worst written and the dumbest AVN ever? Fuck no, not by a mile... and it's quite funny seeing some people trash this game to shit while also praising games like Summer's Gone or Bare Wtiness for their writing, stories and characters... like... let's be real for a second here: Most AVNs have a piss poor to barely adequate level of writing, so give me a fuckin' break... u_u In the end though, what this AVN has is a lot of effort in the overall quality, from the renders, to the animations and the audio, the menus and the voice acting... sure, it's not perfect (and they could REALLY use an audio engineer) but at least they're trying to put out a high quality product, which is more than I can say for the vast majority of AVNs in today's market. And as a porn game, which all AVNs are, despite the collective delusion of the "I play them for the story" crowd, it's not hard to see why this one has been quite successful with its intended audience... so yeah, I think this game deserves more credit than it gets. I really hope the dev will consider changing the name, which also has a gigantic typo on it - and that's already dumb as shit - but also the entire marketing strategy around it, because yeah, unless they're trying to pull the rug from under players, the whole thing just doesn't work and I bet they're missing on a lot of people who would actually be interested in a story like the one in here. Lastly, while the quality is pretty high, the game suffers from A LOT of minor issues that unfortunately keep piling up and make it seem like it's lacking polish... the worst thing is they shouldn't even take too long to fix, so I hope the dev addresses them. But yeah, a lot of quality here (great sound design too, btw) and a lot of potential, so let's hope it keeps up... definitely worth a look. From what I remember though, you can choose to basically forego the grind by activating the unlimited ressources option, but you will still need to deal with a fair amount of sandboxy stuff: there are many free-roam sections and there's a combat system you will need to play to progress, but fret not, it's not hard or grindy, just a bit repetitive and therefore boring. You'll also need to deal with other minor gameplay things, but overall, it's not so bad. Still though, just doing my due dilligence and pointing all of this out in case you're absolutely against anything sandox-related. Available on: Patreon / SubscribeStar ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: I'm warning you right now, this is gonna be a long-ass rant... but let's start gently with a content warning for some rough(ish) sex elements, a good amount of sharing and a whole lot of grindy gameplay... and with that out of the way, I think it'll be best if I go point by point. Writing: First of all, there is no story per-se since this is a "sandbox" AVN, so there isn't a linear narrative and it's more like a collection of plots based around the different love interests, although there are some crossover scenes between them too, as you'd expect. The writing itself is largely fine on a technical level... you will see a few odd sentences and a few mistranslations from time to time, but for the most part it's fine. That said, due to the nature of the game, the dialogues can get pretty repetitive at times. Visuals and animations: When it comes to the renders themselves, they are actually very well crafted, the game has a more cartoony style but the lighting and the composition are great. Now, as with the writing, the visuals can also be very repetitive due to the sandbox nature of the game, and in general, the render:dialogue ratio is rather low. The animations are fine, some of the more recent ones are quite good, just don't expect to see a lot of animations at first, because it takes a rather long while to get to the spicier scenes (it's a bit of a slow burn). Audio: Well, to make it quick, it's not good, there's half a dozen songs that play on a constat loop, regardless of what you're doing, and then every once in a while, some scenes have their own background music, but given the massive length of this game, you'll get tired of it all very quickly... oh, and also, there is no SFX beyond a few notifications. Gameplay and design: Right, the gameplay is where things get a whole lot more complicated... first of all, this is a non-linear/sandbox game and so of course it's more "game-y" than other AVNs in this list. Now, either you enjoy playing sandboxes or you don't, that'll be up to each player... but beyond that, this sandbox in particular has some, let's call them "issues", I'd like to touch on... Starting with a common issue among sandbox AVNs: You might run into narrative inconsistencies if you advance certain events or plot lines too quickly. Also, there is no clear idea of what you should do or what you should spend your time on when you're starting the game, and it's possible you'll just end up restarting once you get a more decent grasp of how the progression and the flow works in the game. If I'm being honest, this game doesn't have the worst grind out there, but it mostly feels unnecessary and tedious and it certainly doesn't help with the inherent repetitiveness of the game. The same is true about the RNG elements in the game... granted, there aren't a ton of those, but they still represent yet another hurdle you have to deal with in order to get to the more interesting bits of the game. Also, the UI (user interface) is pretty terrible. A game like this needs a better planned/desiged UI to alleviate the insane amount of very time- consuming clicking you'll need to do... one example: the features in the phone app and the computer should be available at all times, instead of having to go constantly back to the MC's room to check your stats and other miscelanous things... it's just a case of poor planning and design. Next issue: the achievements are buggy... and that wouldn't really be an issue at all except for the fact that achievements give you in-game rewards consisting of money and stat boosts which can help alleviate the grind, so them being badly implemented is actually a big deal. There are also a couple other badly coded things, but they're not as literally game breaking as the achievements thing. The last thing to consider is the game is actually quite long, it has a lot of content to explore, AND there is also a fair amount of branching, and in theory all of that is good... however that is where all the issues I laid out above, along with the slow burn pace of the game, all combine and compound to create a "less than optimal" gaming experience. I'm gonna be honest, despite me liking the game, I experienced a form of "burn out" that prevented me from finishing all of the current content and there is NO WAY in hell I would even consider replaying the whole thing from scratch just to explore some of the other branches, it's just too much... this is probably one of those games where it would've been better to start playing them years ago, because waiting for updates would probably help to alleviate the overall feeling of tediousness, and if you decide to give it a shot, I really recommend taking a few breaks in-between sessions... I reckon that might help. So after that huge wall of text: Did I enjoy the game? Well, yes and no... I liked the content a lot, but I hated the delivery system, so to speak, and I certainly didn't enjoy the grind or the unnecessary RNG. Your enjoyment will depend mostly on your tolerance threshold for sandbox AVNs more than anything else. In the end I decided to put this in the top 100 because of the sheer amount of content and all the good things the game offers, but I just can't place it higher because I feel the "actually playing it" part of the experience is going to be a preeetty big hurdle for a lot of people to overcome. Lastly, I realize AVN "devs" are for the most part just amateur creators doing the best they can, so my intention isn't being overly harsh, but I do think they should keep in mind that people's time is very valuable and you shouldn't waste it on pointless clicks and mindless repetition. Moving on... oh man, I'm quite conflicted about this one, because I feel like I'm seriously jumping the gun placing this one so high this early in its development and considering the fact that it also seems to take a longer-than-usual time to get updates (and you know what that means by now)... but the truth of the matter is, I really feel more people should check this AVN out and keep an eye on it, mainly for one reason: The visual storytelling and choreography are really, REALLY good... like, I don't know what the dev does for a living, but they seem to know their shit when it comes to fighting and action scenes, and they do a really impressive job of posing both the characters and the camera in order to create arguably the best action scenes I've seen in any AVN so far, and I'm writing this 400+ AVNs in, just so you know... so yes, that good. Besides that, the overall quality is pretty high... not the highest but high enough to be "up there" in the big leagues... One thing to note in terms of the visuals is that the dev is very good at facial expressions (which really helps with the whole visual storytelling thing), but also in terms of facial diversity, which is always nice in a genre with very similar looking models. So far, there's been only one animated sex scene, and it was fine... nothing mind blowing, but in line with the rest of the quality... I'll need to see more of those to get a better idea. In terms of audio, the music is also fine and there's a good amount of SFX, specially when it comes to the action SFX which make the action scenes feel more dynamic. Lastly, the writing: Not gonna lie, it's a bit wonky here and there, and I'm assuming it's the usual problem with translations, but it's good enough to not be a big deal... besides that, you can tell the dev's a good writer, despite the technical difficulties, who knows when to have dialogue, and when not to, which is always a welcome change of pace to the more "wordy" AVNs. So yeah, this is an EXTREMELY promising AVN and I really hope it'll be able to survive long enough to be completed, because this has top 10 potential, and I'm not exagerating. Definitely give it a try, specially if you're into the more story driven and action heavy games... The non-linear/sandbox elements are basically tied to the investigation mechanic that basically determines which 2 out of 3 groups and the order in which you will investigate them in a single playthrough, so it's really not an issue at all, it's more akin to normal branching. Oh, the game uses a sort of semi-voice acting thing, where instead of having a proper VA, it's just grunts, laughter and other mouth sounds, on top of the more frequent sexual moans... it's not a terrible idea, specially as a more financially viable alternative to VA, buuuut it's not very well implemented, and it ends up getting really old really fast... that said, those sounds have their own slider, so you can mute them. Lastly, like I noted in the blurb, the game has one season under its belt and it has a pretty hefty amount of content and a lot of sex scenes, and by the way, the animations in this game are really good (the intro sequence of the game is fire!). That said, it's got the exact same visual style as the other two... in fact, it's got the same everything, same font for the dialogues, same text box, same moans during the sex scenes, etc... If I have one criticism is that maybe the dev should change things up a bit to give each of their games a more unique identity. But in the end, it's a minor sacrifice in order to get a well written and compelling HS AVN that has an extremely rare (at least by this industry's standards) and consistent quick development cycle. Since season 1 was recently completed in order to make the jump to Steam, I took the time to replay the game and see what had changed since the first time I played it... Sadly, I was a bit underwhelmed by a noticeable lack of improvements in certain aspects, particularly the audio side of things... it seems the dev is gonna launch the game on Steam with barely three background tracks scattered throughout the game... it's a puzzling decision to say the least. Other than that, it's mostly what I remember playing previously, a game with a very loose story (this is very much "slice of life"), but with a big focus on character development... and fortunately, that is really where the game shines above its peers, because it has very good character writing and great organic and realistic dialogues. Unfortunately though, the game is kinda lacking in the visual side of things... the static renders are decent enough, but the game just lacks the visual polish of other high quality AVNs. The animations are pretty lackluster at first, and then there is a noticeable change in them, but I hesitate to call it an improvement, because on the one hand, yes, they are more fluid and better animated, but on the other hand, they look like they were created by another person in another program, and honestly they also look strangely plastic-y and lifeless. So even though an effort was clearly made, the results are still lacking. I always intended to bump up this game to the top 25, if only because of its very strong character work... but sadly, upon revsion there are still a lot of things that are holding this game back from reaching its full potential. I'm not sure what to say about this game, it feels like everyone has already played it, but if you haven't I suppose I should warn you about the darker themes in it. This games deals with themes of mental issues and suicide, so if you're not in a good head space or if you don't want to deal with that kind of thing, stay away form this. Other than that, this game is famous for its emotional depth, and while it's true that some story lines are quite emotionally deep, the truth of the matter is that some others are just not. This game is very focused on one particular character and the rest of them feel very surface and shallow, their character arcs just aren't very well developed. The plot itself lacks narrative consistency as well, and it feels a bit too convenient... plus there are some plot threads that are introduced quite late and never go anywhere, which is puzzling to say the least. Visually it's just decent, it's enough to get the job done, but you won't be amazed by the spectacle. To be fair, the dev has a good visual comedic sense and timing, so you'll also get a few well earned chuckles in there. The last thing to note is that the game has a good selection of songs which are used to greatly enhance the experience of the game. Listen, I'm gonna be honest, in my opinion this game is a bit overrated, but it's undeniable that it's one of the big titles in the genre, because of what it dares to do in an emotional level, and I'm pretty sure it's had an influence in a lot of the better AVNs that have come out since. So yeah, you kinda have to play it... it is very popular and at the very least you will be able to join in the many, many conversations around it and its characters, who are also very popular and get frequent cameos in other games... you too will be able to play "spot the Lexi cameo" u_u | SNEAKY SECRET RANT!!! I'm sorry but we need to talk about this game... So, like probably everyone else, I too first played this game and thought it was a nice emotional story (despite any flaws it might have) and a welcome change of pace comapred to most AVNs out there, something more story-focused than porn-focused. And like a lot of people, I learnt about the origin of the game and the tragic story behind it and I thought "damn, that's heavy"... I mean, who wouldn't right? However, unlike most people, I never really fell in love with Cece, and in fact, I didn't really like how the game seemed to manipulate the player into choosing her as the main love interest and even wished she would have stayed as a purely platonic friend within the narrative. But the thing is, the more I've thought about the game ever since I first played it, the more it weirds me out... and listen, absolutely no offense intended to the dev at all, I feel for him and wouldn't dare make fun of that tragedy... but it just makes me wonder what the hell was the thought process behind the game. Because the more you think about it, the more you end up asking "why would someone who went through that experience make an actual porn game about it?" And sure, I know you're thinking "well it's a lot more than just a porn game", and you're right, but it is a game that has very explicit sex scenes, which means... you know... porn. And logically, we're led to think that Cece is a character based on his defunct daughter, but she is a love interest with whom you can get sex scenes... Also, is the MC based on himself then? 'Cause not gonna lie, that kinda makes me uncomfortable... hell, even if that's not the case, I'm still like "yikes, what is that all about", right? So yeah, it's something that's been bothering me ever since, and it's the main reason why I think it would've been better for Cece to be a non- romanceable character in the game... sure, she should very much still be the main character, but not in that way... On a personal note, I'm loving this game, I really like the premise of the story, and the execution is fairly good so far. There are a few narrative issues, maybe even some plot holes, but nothing that can't be ironed out in future updates. It's worth noting the game has some pretty ambitious branching, which might be a good thing or a huge warning sign... time will tell... but as it stands, that certainly puts this game above most of its peers. Last thing to note is that the game uses AI-generated voice acting that sounds extremely robotic, BUT the dev was smart enough to use it for certain characters only and so its use fits the narrative of the story and doesn't take you out of the game... well, except for the fact that the AI voice keeps calling the player "MC" regardless of the name you choose for the MC (there's no default name either), and I'm gonna be honest, that's just stupid... It'd be better if the dev gave the MC a name and be done with it, or I don't know, use a code name, or come up with an excuse for the MC to be called something else... but the way it is now, it just doesn't work. Anyways, that's about it... Available on: Patreon / Steam ──────────────────────────────────────── ► Additional information: So you'll notice I named this game as College kings 1, which means this review, score and recommendation tier pertains only to that first part, or season, or however you want to classify it, so if you want to see what I think about CK2 (and oooh boy, do I have "some things" to say about it), look for it down below in the "Played" section. I decided to split them into two different entries in this list for a couple of reasons: 1) well, they are offered as two different games on Steam and other storefronts, 2) CK1 is free to play and CK2 isn't (and it's quite expensive too), and if I'm being honest, at this point they kinda feel like two different games... I mean, it's not a day and night type of situation, but CK2 has gone so much off the rails that I just can't recommend it at this point in time. But anyways, like I said above, I do think this one is still very much worth playing, and with all that out of the way: Full disclosure, this is one of my all time favorites, it's one of the very first AVNs I played and I actually played this one a lot, I had a lot of fun creating my perfect playthrough in which I tried to bang as many girls as I could by carefully balancing the affinity points in order to "unlock" as much content as I could, and I loved that aspect of the game. Now, I'm fully aware that this is considered a BADIK clone, which in my opinion is pretty unfair, given they are pretty different besides sharing the same core premise (which isn't particularly original to begin with), however, it'd be disingenuous not to mention the obvious: yes, BADIK is very clearly the superior game in every regard, so if you're looking for a college-themed game to play and you're short on time, obviously play that one instead. That said, while this one has a worse overall quality, it does have a rather large cast of (mostly) fun, charming and memorable characters you'll get to meet and get into all sorts of stupid (and sexy) situations with, and for the most part, the character writing and dialogues are good. I wish I could say the same about some of the plot elements, though, because the "euro-trip" part of the story might be one of the most unintentionally hilarious things I've seen on an AVN. The biggest problem with this game is that you obviously won't have a conclusion and you'll be VERY tempted to continue the story in CK2, so let's hope the devs can get their shit together at some point and fix that clusterfuck of an AVN, so that players can finally get the full experience without having to suffer through one disappointment after the other. The good: The visuals are REALLY good, very crisp Honey Select visuals and like I said above, it has A LOT of action sequences... that said, don't expect a lot of animations here, there's actually not a lot of those, since they're mostly used for lewd scenes, and there's not a lot of those (yet). Instead, the action is handled with static images, but they are pretty well choreographed, so they sort of feel animated, or very dynamic at the very least. The audio side of things is also pretty decent, it uses a lot of sound efffects to complement the action (although the earlier chapters could use a bit more of those), and the background music is good enough. So generally speaking, the production quality is pretty high... and now we come to the not so good, meaning the story and the writing: First of all, as usual, the game suffers from clunky translations... they aren't completely shit, but it's noticeable, and the real problem comes from the writing style itself, because the game has its own lore and power levels (very tropey, like I said) and unfortunately, the game keeps dumping lore on you and throwing a lot of terms that I'm sure mean something... The story itself is slowly, and quite badly paced too... To me, it wasn't very interesting or engaging, it's the usual isekai harem bullshit with a "chosen" MC and all the typical crap you see in this type of thing... That said, the game seems to be quite popular, so there is clearly an audience for it. And that would be a shame, because there IS a reason why it takes that long: the production quality on this thing is stupid high, this game has easily some of the best visuals, everything looks gorgeous, from the characters to the backgrounds, it's all very well crafted in order to create a very immersive experience. One caveat is that the game uses (and abuses?) a parallax effect that might be nauseating to some people, but it gives the game this feeling of etheralness that is hard to describe, so it's both a good and a bad thing, I suppose. All of that combined with a good use of music and sound effects give the game the proper eerie atmosphere for a story that's shrouded in mystery and dread, it kinda feels like the start of a horror movie. And while the writing isn't the best by any stretch, it is more than good enough to get the job done. But in the end, it's impossible to ignore how long it's taken for so little content - in fact, that's the only reason why this isn't MUCH higher on the list - and while it's true that all good things are worth the wait, when it comes to AVNs, long waits usually spell disaster. The writing is pretty good and I don't think there are translation issues here, albeit there are a lot of typos that should be easily fixed with a proof-reading pass, so let's hope that happens. I should probably also mention that the setting of the story is not very common, it happens in a fantasy world where both men and women have female bodies, but the men have dicks and male names... so not true futas, more like trans I guess? (hence the lack of the "futa" tag) The MC happens to be male, but also has a female body, although very boyish with almost no tits, and will go through physical transformations throughout the story. So yeah, the setting of the world is pretty weird, confusing and might be a turn-off for some players, so fair warning. Other than that, the game branches out after an introduction to the plot into three completely different paths where you'll meet different people and the story will play out in very different ways, so it's very ambitious in that regard (the MC even transforms in different ways depending on your chosen path). The split is based on your early dialogue choices, and it is not very intuitive, to be honest, but you should be able to figure it out. Anyhow, it looks like the game has been getting a bit more hype around it, so it's a good time to bump this bitch up the ranks... sure, the overall quality leaves a lot to be desired (specially in terms of coding) and this won't be the prettiest game you'll ever play, BUUUUT on the other hand, the game has a lot of other shit going on for it, and it's mainly about the better than usual freedom of choice and the branching it entails: Like I said, the games offers the players the option to share the love interests with other male characters, but it also lets you play it as a more straightforward harem-like game and keep everyone for yourself. That means the sex scenes will have variations depending on your choices and there is a substantial amount of branching due to that, but the best thing about it is that you get to cherrypick which girl you share and with whom, it's not an "all or nothing" type of situation. So between the freedom of choice and a pretty fun cast of characters you can fuck around with, this game ends up being a really fun gaming experience, and that does a lot to overcome its other rather significant shortcomings. The quality is pretty high, visuals are mostly good and the animations are generally speaking good too, although they can look a bit janky at times. The music is also well used, but it didn't particularly feel like an amazing soundtrack overall, just fine enough. It looks okay and has a gallery and all the basic stuff, but it functions in a rather weird and unintuitive way when it comes to saving/loading and chapter selection. It's not a game-breaking issue, I suppose, but it is quite annoying. Secondly, the art style: it has a pretty cartoony look that might be jarring to a lot of people (plus it makes all the LIs look a bit too young), so be aware of that. The game also has a mixture of regular renders and "cut-out characters" or "sprites" as they're known in the genre, meaning when the characters are rendered by themselves and then are pasted on top of a background and they don't always look integrated (it's a common thing with 2D/hand-drawn games). Not a huge deal, but you might want to know that if you're like me and you don't like those. Lastly, the game has some sandbox mechanics in the first third-to-half of the game, but then they got removed. It's a little bit grindy, but nothing too obnoxious, mostly a "choose what to do next" type of deal. On a personal note about this game, I wanted to rant a little bit about it because I think the game had an interesting premise, but they totally fumbled it. So the game is about a mute MC, right? But for some reason they decided to make it a first person perspective/POV game where you never see his face... and on top of it all, they didn't even bother using sign language, which could've been a pretty original and unique thing to do in an AVN. Instead, they chose to give him a text-to-speech app on his phone, and the fastest fingers in history, considering how quickly he types and has conversations that way... oh he's also constantly rambling in his head, to the point where I was wishing he'd shut the fuck up for two minutes. But if you're not gonna use facial expressions and/or sign language and your MC is gonna have no issues comunicating in a rather normal way at all, then what is even the point of making him mute? It's a waste of a pretty neat concept/premise if you ask me. Point being that devs should really think these kinds of things through a lot more before starting work on their AVNs, to be honest. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised by the improvements that were implemented to the game, specially the begining which was partially remade, if my memory serves... the visual side of the game is now almost flawless and consistent. I'm also pretty disappointed because, while they somewhat fixed the translations, it's still not enough and the dialogues are still quite clunky and it's a shame, because the story in here is actually pretty good, it has nice cast of characters and the plot has some neat twists and some rather dark turns... and in fact, I might as well add a content warning for some bleak shit involving suicide, while we're at it. It's definitely not just another dumb fuckfest, and you can even see the good writing behind the clunky translations. Obviously the problem isn't with the quality, because this is a VERY high quality product indeed. However, like I said in the blurb, this is also a hybrid type of game with a central management-sim type of gameplay mechanic that could potentially turn away a lot of people just looking for a more regular AVN experience. That said, I'm farily sure there is an "easy mode" of sorts for players who don't give a shit about the gameplay side of things, but it's still structured as such and not as a regular AVN. So keep that in mind, and I'd personally suggest you give it a try, since it's probably the highest quality KOI offering. If you're looking for a more traditional VN experience with similar quality, try the dev's other game Out of Touch (in the Highly Recommended tier).
