Hey, thanks for your email. I am heading out on Sunday start on some pruning and drainage work.
Lucas is away in rotorua for thw school holidays.
I think we should be fine as there are other tracks that need more work.
I am happy to help at the next working bee, I can bring my chainsaw.
Hi Hasely, there's heaps to be done that we haven't got to. First priority I think is install a drainage pipe fitted the puddle near the end. Then address rutting on the downhill and final uphill. Those areas are both greasy and will always rut, would some kind of surface treatment liike gravel help? I plan to do the drain soon but need help with the rutted areas. Cheers, Alan

Hey Hasely, sorry for the slow reply. I have only just been keeping it clear. Haven't done that for a while. I really like the track how it is. I think keeping it cleared and keeping it drained is all that is required.
Coming up to summer I will move the first berm on the bottom section to allow more time to turn before hitting the next berm. I'll also fix each or the areas that puddles, by armouring them if enough rock/brick can be found.
I"ll up update you on the trail next week.
Not too sure just keep grooming it and maybe cut a new line when I get a chance.
need a bit of work especially on the berms
where the earth has slipped or been cut away under braking.

The last time I got out on my track for maintenance was just before lock down. As I use to be able to got out midweek and do it.
I cleared out all the drainage, cut back anything over growing the track and did my best to repair the holes/rutting. Though I always bike with some secateurs in my bag and cut anything that needs it.
With the change of my job I can now only do weekends and need to organise myself a track maintenance sign, as I don't feel safe on the track with the speed people go on it. I want them to know I'm there. I've also sent two emails about getting a key, the 2nd one was only last week and I'm waiting on someone to come back to me with how to get one.
The 2nd half of my track is pretty rough as the dirt doesn't compact very well (in summer its very dusty), and the rutting down there is getting pretty bad. The hill at the end has gotten a lot stepper as well, again this could be from dirt issues.
Planning to improve surface water flow/drainage in two sections of the trail in the next few weeks or early next month.
Also thinking of improving the rooty top section this year. Do you have any recommendation about this? Is it ok to improve or you want it to remain as technical feature?
Can you please let me know how can we get key duplicate?

Can't seem to reply with the other email address.
Over the past few months, we have mainly done trimming and clearing. There are a few spots that may need attention for drainage as it gets wetter but they should only be small fixes. We have cleaned up the upper half so that it is easier to ride. We have also been thinking of building up some of the berms on the lower half too.
We did a working bee the week leading up to Club Champs in March on Fenceline and Sup
Have not been out to do anything since then.

Track in good nick. No current need for work
Gidday Hasely. Thanks for text. Hendrix is doing very well it's running amazing. It's getting a lot of traffic down it. Materials wise it doesn't really require any of that. It will love to keep in the spray programme when it happens though. Other than that it's just the usual shaping and scraping maentenance that is required.

Hi Hasely I got told someone wlse was looking after this so I backed off? If no I am keen to take this on am away this weekend but will start the following weekend.
Thanks for getting in touch. Over the last year I have done a couple of forays along the Sinclairs, Hihi and Fantail trails to clear away the excess growth. The trail base is holding up fairly well in most places but I won’t be able to continue to do it all and I see a few bogs developing. Some assistance would be great, or if there is a volunteer who is keen to do the maintenance I can hand the trails over to them. Obviously I can’t use all the power tools that Neil used to but happy to lend a hand with clippers, loppers, shovel, wheelbarrow.
Thought I might come along to the working bee in the weekend if the weather is reasonable. Hope we can catch up then.

Over the past months, we have been keeping an eye on the track with the odd bit of vegetation clearance. What we intend to do in the coming months is clear the drainage paths and any mud at the end section of the trail.
During May, I did a couple of day's work on the roadside section of Lawson's Loop clearing vegetation (mainly flannel weed) and cutting the grass back. That trail could do with some spraying if it hasn't been done again recently.

I(Michael Ure) will try to catch up with him(Axel) soon to see what he's up to. It would be good to get another load of dirt dumped at the start to use for improvement work.

Hi sorry forgot to reply
Yep we’re doing ok. Been out a couple of times to sort drainage etc. bit more to do in the coming weeks and one big hole to fix, but we’re onto it. Spray program has helped us heaps.
One thing we need help with - chainsaw to cut that fallen tree back a bit further. It sticks out a bit too far towards the riding line.
Andrew has met Fraser on site, walked track, outlined basic work including drainage and reshaping.
Has resigned position of adopter.

Nice hinting! We have done nothing! Yes if you could tell us what needs doing – happy to organise the girls …but probably need your guidance as to whats most important.

(From Mark) After working bee we got most of the top sectin back up to scratch. No major work planned, will just keep chipping away but always open to ideas/feedback on areas that need specific work done. Cheers

Hello. I am replying to let you know your email has been received by the wrong recipient. I am a Carl Hurley, but I do not believe the one you were attempting to reach.
I would hate for the other Carl Hurley to be missing a communique from you.
Good luck to you, and have a nice day :)

the tracks in pretty good shape, I just make sure to clear any fern fronds or branches every couple of week. I did fix up the muddy rut on the downhill as per Andrews instructions a couple on month back, but last time I went over it I could see the area is beginning to puddle in heavy rain and will most likely soften up again over the winter. I think either a drainage channel or change in camber is needed to weather proof it.. Happy to do the work myself if approved.
Really bad I haven't been out for a long time. I would still like to put another pit of to the side where that corner is that drops to the left.

Due to broken ankle and then Covid and a trip away I have not done any maintenance. Satsumu is not in too bad condition.
I have no plans other than a lopping and tidy up where needed but no drainage works needed.
I am now available to do some work starting Sunday. I will be able as the nights get lighter be able to work after work as I will be in Inglewood 3 days a week until xmas.
See you Wednesday.
Jacqui has handed this over.
We haven't done a whole heap of work on Slam City recently, apart from trimming gorse.
I have noticed that there has been some work done at the beginning of the track, where a rut has been filled and the right hand berm built up a bit. I was not aware of this happening. The only issue I can think of is that its getting quite rutted out by the big drops in the middle. There are alternative lines and as the trail is Grade 4 advanced, I wasn't too worried about smoothing things out too much.
We put in a whole heap of work on drainage a few years ago and am surprised how well its held up. I feel that Slam City gets a lot more use these days and we enjoy riding it.
We will most like not have time to do any work on Slam City over the next few months, with me starting calving on the farm (as of today) and Ryan busy with Dads Garage. We were actually thinking of putting it up for adoption, to someone with more time/interest can look after it.
Sincerest apologies for not being more available to help with track maintenance.

I have not done a lot of maintenance over the past few months other than keeping the gorse etc back from the track.
I will be doing some minor drainage work and maintaining a couple of berms that could do with a bit of work.
There are some pine trees that will need some pruning soon – I will need some training on this.

I rode down stumpy's on sunday, it was drier than I thought considering the rain we have had lately.
Someone else has done a good job of reshaped a few of the doubles and opened up a couple of the upper corners. The last round of spraying was great as well.
If you know who did this work Id like to catch up with them.
There are a few corners on the bottom section that I need to get the drainage to work better, so I'll chip away at those, as I get time.
No need for a working bee at this stage.
Thanks for the email.
Pre lock down I had done some branch trimming, and minor pot hole filling, where the water was ponding, but since then there has been no action on my part, that’s mostly due to back injury and new born baby.
With regards to future work on the track, it is going to need some love. If I organised a few lads from work to come out, it would be good to get some pointers from yourself on best practices if that’s possible.
|The Debt Collector|
Ive done a couple of stints on S'up which involved clearing vegetation.
I also installed all the posts and signs on this track
I wont be able to do any work until November to this trail now due to work commitments and trying to start training for Whaka100 which thus far has been non existent

Sorry I forgot to let the club know but I have moved away from the Naki and now living down on the south island. So I won't be able to do any track maintenance on TTR anymore. I hope things are well up there.
I was going to emal you and Andrew on Saturday
It’s a bit of a struggle at the moment to find time to get stuff done at the moment and having my tools stolen hasn’t helped .
The last piece of meaningful work was a few weeks back trying to repair the damage done on the last jump of track the ripper (the old tims triple section)
I was out for a ride on Saturday, the corner before the first drop is still getting rutted up in places despite me laying bricks. So help or ideas for fixing this issue would be great. Even getting bricks etc there isn’t easy due to its location.
This ramp below also need attention, we could possibly lengthen it here and make it a jump. Or just cut the stump off level and put some posts in to attach to the ramp, MATT VALE
