AngelicaAngelica archangelicaPS to FSmoist and poorly drained; BUT NOT excess N which can limit root growthEither. If direct - do in fall or early springFresh, stratified seed and sow thinly on top of soil or barely cover . Keep moist until germ (3 wks).
Johnny's: Transplant: Refrigerate the seeds until sowing. It is preferable to plant in the fall, but early spring plantings will also be successful. Tamp the seeds into the soil mix or just barely cover with soil and moisten. Seed requires light to germinate, along with alternating temperatures of warm and cold. Place the flats or trays outside where they will experience the needed temperature fluctuations. After 21 days, flats should be brought into warmer temperatures to germinate. Transplant seedlings outside in the spring when they are 3-4" tall, spacing seedlings 12-24" apart in rows that are 36" apart. Direct seed: Refrigerate the seeds until sowing. Sow in the fall or spring, 1/4- 3/8" deep, 10 seeds per foot in well-prepared seedbeds. Space plants 12-24" apart in each direction.

They do well planted in airy, light potting soil in small pots or cells. Fill the pots all the way with potting soil, gently tamp it in, and then plant the seeds shallowly, about ¼” deep and covered. Keep moist and in a shady place and check daily. They should be growing within 7-14 days and have circular seed leaves. Seeds can also be planted in a well-prepared garden bed with loose soil, where they can stay permanently. If starting in pots, keep the potting soil very moist (but not soggy) and transplant to a permanent location about 1 month from the seed sprouting.
he seedlings are frost sensitive, so should be kept warm and in very bright light, either in greenhouse or under lights. Do not plant before May 1.

PoppyEschscholzia californicaCaliforniasunmoderate fertility (debatable), nitrogen rich, well draineddirectfrom OMHF: sow in cold soil early spring. Germ in 2-3 wks.
From Cech: Plant prefers full sun and nutrient-poor, dry to mesic soils. Best method of growing these is to strew the seed on the surface of disturbed soil, even be it waste land, in the fall to early spring. Very easy to establish. Thinning not necessary.

41
PoppyPapver somniferumZahirSunregular garden soil, abandoned field, poor soil directSow in early spring by scattering seed on surface of prepared seedbed or in pots and keep evenly moist until germination, which is rapid. Generally these do best when allowed to go wild, and thinning, cultivation and primping are not really necessary.
Johnny: Direct seed (recommended): After last frost, sow in place covering seed with 1/4" of soil. Thin to stand 6" apart when first true leaves appear. Cool nights are required to flower freely. Transplant: Sow 2-3 weeks before last frost directly into cell packs or containers. Lightly cover seeds with medium. Bottom water or mist. Harden off and transplant outside after the danger of frost has passed. Seedlings are difficult to transplant. Cool nights are required to flower freely.

cutting celeryFS/PSDS Johnny's: Direct seed (recommended): Direct seed in spring after the last frost. Sow seeds shallowly, 30 seeds per foot in rows 18" apart. There is no need to thin when the seeds are direct seeded. Transplant: Seeds require some light to germinate, so sow shallowly. Use individual plug containers and plant several seeds in each plug. Thin, if necessary, to 2 or 3 plants per plug. Transplant plugs into the field at a 6" spacing in rows 18" apart.
53
chivesDSJohnny's: Direct seed (recommended): In spring, sow 1/4" deep as soon as the soil warms up. Place 4-6 seeds every 6" or 1-2 seeds per inch. Thin to 2-3 plants every 2-8". Keep free of weeds. Transplant: Start seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Sow several seeds per plug, thinning to 3-4 seedlings per plug. Transplant seedling clusters 2-8" apart in rows 18" apart.
54
steviaT60 to 70Transplant (recommended): Seed should be used within 6 months of purchase. Store seed in a cool, dry location for best germination. Sow seeds shallowly 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Do not over-water. Transplant to cell flats when seedlings are large enough to handle. For bushier plants, pinch back growing tips every few weeks for the first 1-2 months. After the last frost, transplant outside 12" apart. Stevia will not tolerate temperatures below 45°F (7°C). Stevia is an ideal plant to grow in containers as a houseplant or on the patio. For container growing, choose a pot that is at least 14" across and provide soil that is well drained. Keep evenly moi
55
MonardaT60 to 707 to 14Transplant (recommended): Sow the seeds in flats, barely covering them. Transplant to individual containers when the seedlings have their first true leaves. Transplant outside in the spring or summer, 6-8 weeks after starting the seeds, spacing plants 12-18" apart. Direct seed: Sow from early spring up until 8 weeks before the first frost in the fall. Direct seed or sow in a cold frame to be transplanted when they reach a height of 3-4". Sow about one seed per inch in rows 18" apart. Thin to 12-18" apart.
