Hundreds of thousand of dollars have been wasted on these studies. Listen to the people. Eliminating Wootton, for instance, runs counter to this. You will force a community of walkers (of which my house was deemed ineligible for transportation because we are 2 miles from Wootton, and a 45 min walk,) yet now you would bus my street to Crown? This is nonsensical.

I do not like any of the options. I agree with Wootton High School's PTSA that there should be another option--keep Wootton students at Wootton's current building (keeping the cluster together) and add a Wootton renovation to the current CIP. Crown HS is too far away from the current Wootton building, and current walkers will no longer be able to walk there. The current location of the Wootton building should be permanent. Please do not move the School and keep the cluster intact. This is what the community wants and students should not have to wait to have a building that is falling apart renovated.

MCPS proposes to have this in effect starting 2027 which affects our current fifth grader but this will create instability and inconsistency for students. Current fifth graders are already planing for 6th grade and selecting classes for 6th grade. Those who have to transfer to a different middle school in 7th grade will be disadvantaged as their school didn’t prepare them for the different middle school. This is highly unfair and problematic as middle school is a big transition year! Do not separate BMES where kids are split between middle schools. Do not implement this in 2027! It is unnecessary as there’s no over crowding and it will force kids to be bus riders creating more traffic and need for more bus drivers which MCPS already has shortages of. Keep BMES together!!! Do not split us.

As a border school in Potomac, Cold Spring is repeatedly used as a balancing mechanism between clusters, yet geographically we are closer to Churchill High School than to the options currently proposed. As a Cabin John parent, I see this firsthand: my child has formed friendships and activity-based connections with students slated to attend Churchill. These community ties develop years before high school and should be preserved.

In future planning, please treat Cold Spring clearly as part of Potomac and preserve our community continuity rather than shifting it to address short-term capacity problems. We also strongly oppose displacing students who should attend Crown High School when it opens—Crown was designed to address enrollment growth, and its integrity must be maintained.

I strongly prefer options A, B, C, or D, as they assign my neighborhood (Washingtonian Woods) to the new Crown High School, aligning perfectly with Policy FAA criteria. These options prioritize proximity, minimizing commute time, optimize facility utilization (reducing Gaithersburg HS overcrowding from 106% to 75-83% while opening Crown at 71-76%) numbers are increasing NOT decreasing as the board is saying, promote demographic diversity (creating a balanced student body), and maintain stability through phased grandfathering. They deliver immediate access to a state-of-the-art facility with advanced STEM resources, fulfilling the long-standing promise to Gaithersburg families.
I do not prefer Options E, F, G, or H, which treat Crown as a holding or partial school, leaving us at an overcrowded Gaithersburg HS (projected at 104%). These delay relief, exacerbate inequities (e.g., concentrating FARMS at 45-52% in Gaithersburg), and waste taxpayer resources on a $200M building not serving locals. They violate FAA by underutilizing Crown and ignoring our community's needs, please prioritize full opening for fairness and efficiency.

My priority is for options that keep the Wootton cluster together, though I would welcome adding additional students as capacity allows. I initially was supportive of Option H but it feels like there has not been enough transparency or communication around what the option would actually entail. Change needs to move at the speed of trust and, given how little time is remaining in the boundary study timeline, I do not believe there is enough time remaining to build an option H that includes the buy-in, community-building, and engagement that it would need to be successful.

Darnestown Elementary School should not being going to Northwest In every option offered, Darnestown is going to Northwest or Poolesville. According to Apple Maps, Darnestown Elementary is only 6 minutes away from Quince Orchard. However, with these maps, this leaves many students having to drive 10 minutes to get to Northwest, or driving 20 minutes to Poolesville High School. Elementary schools like Diamond and Brown Station are all equidistant from Quince Orchard, Northwest and Gaithersburg High School. If the Darnestown students are not able to attend Quince Orchard due to over crowding, Diamond/Brown Station has other options. As well as in all of these options, MCPS is not utilizing taking students for crown from Richard Montgomery, but is only taking students from Quince Orchard, Gaithersburg, and Wootton. College Gardens Elementary school is fairly close to Crown, if not closer than some of the other elementary schools. As well as the sliver of Wootton districted in options E-G and districted to Quince Orchard in option H is very confusing, and I don't understand why it is there.

Any change in consideration of using a facility for a "Holding School" should be made with care based on planned capital improvements. Current Option H did not come with any such detailed plans, which has caused quite a lot of confusion and anxiety over the future of Wooton and Crown.

We want to keep the Wootton Clustet together, we want a safe facility for our children to learn in, and we would like to avoid split articulation for the current Wooton Cluster.

As a resident of the Summerfield Crossing community in Boyds within the Clarksburg boundary, I strongly oppose any boundary proposal that would reassign our students from Rocky Hill Middle School to Neelsville Middle School. However, among the four newly added options released in December, I strongly support Options E and G.

Options E and G appropriately recognize Summerfield Crossing as a single, unified community and allow Boyds students to remain at Rocky Hill Middle School and Clarksburg High School, which clearly reflects geographic reality and community integrity. Rocky Hill Middle School is within walking distance from our neighborhood, while Neelsville Middle School is far beyond a reasonable walking or driving distance.

Reassigning our students to Neelsville would ignore safety concerns, disrupt an established community, and worsen operational inefficiencies by requiring additional school bus routes—despite MCPS’s well-documented bus shortage. Our community experienced a boundary change only a few years ago, and repeated reassignment is unacceptable due to the negative impact on students’ educational stability and emotional well-being.

For these reasons, I urge MCPS to adopt Option E or Option G and to avoid unnecessary boundary changes that unfairly burden this small and cohesive community.

I am writing as a resident of the Summerfield Crossing community in Boyds, located within the Clarksburg boundary, to formally provide input regarding the proposed school boundary changes.

After careful review of the materials, I would like to express my strong support for Options 2 and 4 among the four initial boundary options, as well as my strong support for Options E and G among the four additional options released in December. These options appropriately recognize Summerfield Crossing as a single, cohesive community and maintain the assignment of Boyds students to Rocky Hill Middle School and Clarksburg High School.

Rocky Hill Middle School is in close geographic proximity to our neighborhood and is accessible via established walking routes. In contrast, Neelsville Middle School is located at a significantly greater distance and presents additional safety and transportation challenges. Reassignment to Neelsville would also require the creation of additional and inefficient bus routes at a time when MCPS continues to face transportation capacity constraints.

Furthermore, this community experienced a boundary reassignment only a few years ago. Preserving stability by avoiding repeated boundary changes is critical to supporting students’ educational continuity, emotional well-being, and family planning. For these reasons, I respectfully urge MCPS to give serious consideration to Options 2 and 4, as well as Options E and G, as they best reflect geographic realities, operational efficiency, and the long-term interests of this established community.

I would like to express my strong support for Options 2 and 4 among the four initial boundary options.

My house is literally walking distance to the new Crown HS and yet three of the new options have my home re-districted from Quince Orchard HS (where my children currently attend) to Gaithersburg HS, which is just ridiculous. IF you are going to redistrict my home out of the QO cluster, the only option that should be considered is the brand new HS that is walking distance to my home! You cannot allow the privileged Wooten families to dictate how this boundary study is resolved. My kids went to Fields Road ES and those children deserve to attend a brand new high school being built right in our community. Keep Crown HS local to its closest neighbors.

I believe the Wootton cluster should be kept together, but the region should be in a facility that is safe and promotes student and staff wellbeing. I do not like options A-D because it removes Dufief ES, a small diverse group, from the cluster at the middle school to high school transitions, which can negatively impact their emotional health. With respect to options E-G, I believe Wootton is in need of serious renovation, if not a complete teardown and build. I do not believe a bandaid approach would be successful.,

I am very concerned that 4 additional options were added at the beginning of December and during the holiday season and that one option is to shut down and relocate an entire school. This should not even be allowed to be an option. The schools were built because of overcrowding and now all of a sudden there is no overcrowding? This is horrific planning and terrible use of funding, if we actually didn't need another high school. Shutting down Wootton should not even be on the table with a boundary study and Crown High School was promised to Gaithersburg schools/families for the last 6 months. Trust is being lost with the school system and BOE.

Kids should be given the option to stay with current feeder patterns, if they have transportation. The new boundary study shifts should be grandfathered in. It is important to stability of community and kid relationships. They should not be asked to make all new friends at a tricky time in life, middle school and high school. It is not a fair ask for a child, put yourself in their shoes.

We are adamantly against busing our children very far out of our Darnestown community and in the North direction away from our place of work in Washington, DC. Please bring back the initial options which included Lakelands Park Middle feeding into Quince Orchard High. Both of these schools are in our Darnestown community. We would like to keep our children geographically in DARNESTOWN! This is where all their friends are and community is. Put Lakelands Park Middle and Quince Orchard High as options.

The area needs both schools. There are lots of developments going on around current wootton areas as well as Gaithersburg. It is short sighted to close one of the schools, when in couple years we will be overcrowded again. Crown area deserves its own school, and it helps to reduce the capacity issue from QO, Gaithersburg and RM high schools. Wootton does not have capacity issue, keep Wootton cluster together.

I strongly suggest the board grandfather in students currently in middle school and already in high school to allow them to attend their current cluster high school (ie. Ridgeview to Quince Orchard). High school is hard enough and forcing kids to switch schools will have unnecessary mental health consequences and impact students learning.
In addition, I request the board make a boundary solution that opens Crown High school as a permanent school, and places ALL of the Fields Road elementary feeder neighborhoods at Crown High school. This decision supports all four of the board policy FAA factors-demographic diversity, geographic location, stability of school l assignment overtime, and efficient facility utilization.

Right now Wootton HS and the Wootton cluster are almost perfect as far as demographic diversity, academic achievement/ student outcomes, community engagement and cohesiveness, and even school capacity. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." In other words any change to the Wootton boundaries is only going to diminish a part of MCPS that is currently achieving nearly all of MCPS's goals. There is only one problem with the Wootton cluster, and that is the physical condition of Wootton itself. It is now time to put the money and attention towards rehabilitating the physical structure of the actual building. It is too valuable and precious in many obvious but also intangible ways to just let go of and turn into a holding school. Keep the Wootton cluster as is, and begin fixing Wootton HS! Thank you.

The initial 4 options were all perfectly fine. The next four options seem designed to cater to Wootton specifically. Considering how entitled that group is, I find it completely ridiculous that they are so clearly getting their way, again. The combined high school option, G, is going to result in a lot of unhappy students (and parents), and most likely teachers too. Having 2 distinct groups of teenagers within the same building seems like a recipe for trouble. That is far and away the worst option. H is also terrible as it disenfranchises those who Crown was built for in favor of the Wootton group. Wootton needs to learn to deal with the fact they’re not more important than anyone else. Even options E and F seem very discouraging for families who live in the Crown region and have been promised a new high school for years, only to have that taken away from them as their new high school nears completion.

We greatly appreciate the updated options that have been added in response to community feedback. We have selected options E, F, and H because they keep DuFief Elementary with Frost Middle school and Wootton High School. These options allow our children to stay with their friends through middle and high school. They keep our North Potomac community intact with the ties that we have through our community pool, community centers, and local temple. In addition, these options help accelerate renovations at aging schools and allow our community to make use of the new Crown HS building during this process. Using Crown as a holding school appears to be the most fiscally responsible approach given the costs it would take to renovate Wootton. This maximizes taxpayer investment and will enable a safer and faster renovation. Alternatively if H is chosen it would allow the Wootton cluster to stay intact and move to this updated school. Altogether, we strongly encourage the MCPS BOE to keep DuFief Elementary with the Frost/Wootton cluster.

Its upkeep has beem repeatedly ignored and now it is the time to do the righ thing!

Wootton has consistently been high-performing, provided a welcoming environment for diverse populations, provided an anchor for the entire community, and produced highly successful graduates in ALL walks of life and occupations. We have patiently waited while being pushed back for renovations by the county - and we all know it is BECAUSE we are a high performing school and have parents who are busy and work so they cannot dedicate time or $$$ to lobbying the "old boy system" in the county. It is LUDICROUS to close the school and it is a CRIME that the county chose to put its funds elsewhere and now wants to use Wootton as a scapegoat. STOP the madness and do the right thing - leave Wootton where it is.

How would it feel if you work hard to pay your mortgage and pay a lot of taxes and those taxes are used to build other holding schools instead of the school in your neighborhood?



It does not feel great. Wootton High School is one of the best High Schools in our neighborhood and it was neglected and instead you decided to build other new holding schools.



Now you want to put the undue burden on the families who work so hard for their families and want to make us drive far away to take our children to school to an area that we go on the weekends when we have the time to do so.



It is unfair what you are doing to us. You are also threatening the value of our houses. We work hard to pay our mortgage and taxes and everything else and now your actions are threatening our equity that we could use for retirement.



Think about the impact of your actions. Please make Crown a holding school until you built Wootton High School. We deserve it.
