Jacquelinereynoso@nationalcitychamber.orgNational City Chamber of CommercePresident/ CEOJacqueline Reynoso, a first-generation Mexican-American, was born and raised in National City. She remembered growing up around an abundance of gang-related activity and many people she knew were killed on the streets at a very young age. Despite her string of part-time jobs at the mere age of 13 to help her single mother provide for the family, Reynoso graduated high school as her class valedictorian. Reynoso’s initial departure from her hometown came via a full ride scholarship to UC Berkeley where she graduated magna cum laude. She then ventured further east where she received another full ride to Harvard University to obtain her master’s degree in public policy. With a top-notch education like that, the sky was the limit for her. But after her world travels and experience at the California Department of Justice, this San Diego native had something very specific in mind; she wanted to come home and give back to a community that gave so much to her.
At a young age of 32, Jacqueline Reynoso currently serves as the President/CEO of National City’s Chamber of Commerce. This past year alone, Reynoso led the development of two new programs: the Green Business Program and Tourism Marketing District.
Partnering with San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE), the Green Business Program was set up to create smart energy solutions for local businesses to eliminate high energy costs and reduce the city’s carbon footprint. In just its first year of existence, the program announced more than 200 participating local businesses with over thousands of dollars in savings.
Aside from Reynoso’s cost-saving programs for local businesses, Reynoso also headed the newly formed Tourism Marketing District that launched a national marketing campaign that promoted National City as an ideal tourist destination for visitors both locally and internationally. In the first 8 months of the campaign, a tourism-driven website was launched (www.visitnationalcity.com) with a social media following of over 3,500 individuals.
In earlier years as CEO, Reynoso also developed the Small Business Technical Assistance Program, Forgivable Loan Program and Educational Training and Internship Program to help National City businesses and residents who make up the heart and soul of the city she holds close to her heart.
In April of 2012, Reynoso partnered with the South County Career Center and established the very first Career Pathways to Success Job Fair in where she secured sponsorships and volunteers. The event resulted in over 45 participating employers, 600 attendees and most importantly, dozens of National City residents back in the workforce.
There have been many individuals who have overcome adversity and hardship, but very few carried the humility and gratitude of Jacqueline Reynoso. She never considered herself a victim of adversity, but rather, a continual beneficiary of community and school programs designed for economically disadvantage youths. Reynoso currently works hard at creating similar opportunities for her community by fostering development and growth in a city that she will always call home.
