Brandonagree with the python 3.0 stuff, is it possible to punt on unicode until python 3?

Greg +unicode?Maybe we need an i18n keyword until a Unicode expert shows up. In Python 3.0, this will be even worse, as the function signature will be a 'bytes' object and all strings will be Unicode. This may be an impediment to supporting 3.0.

Gregno clueSplit off from the '-include' issue, so it's only about creating the .pdb file as a side-effect. I have no idea how important that would be. This issue is five years old, but it has a patch; maybe 2.x p4?

Steven2.xp3agree w/Greg re: 2.x, but p3 feels more right to me; still needs testing and doc

Greg2.xp4/5Split back off from 1107. Not terribly common, so maybe late in the 2.x timeframe?

Steven2.xp3I'd suggest p3, just because it seems relatively straightforward to do. I can go with p4 if others feel strongly

GreginvalidHe was helped by loonycyborg on the Wesnoth lists. I don't think it's a SCons bug, but there's definitely an interaction I'm not understanding.

Stevenresearchp3?looks like what happens is that MergeFlags adds the specified -I directory to CPPPATH, and then the VariantDir and/or Repository stuff get in there and do things that might not be what you intended. It would be worth a little research to understand how the Wesnoth help fixed his problem and whether it suggests we can or should do something smarter here.

Gregno clueHe re-opened this issue. If I understand him correctly, FindInstalledFiles() is also finding all the sources. I find that surprising, too, but I don't know anything about the background that led to that choice.

Stevenresearch??Need to find a package guru to figure this out and whether we're doing the wrong thing. Sounds like it, but I haven't had time to grok our packaging stuff thoroughly.

Gregno clueHe re-opened this issue. At least there's a better description. I know nothing about the packaging stuff, but this does seem unexpected. There's a clear workaround to move the code to the top-level directory, so I don't see it as a high priority.

Steveninvalid?I think this is invalid. He's trying to call a subsidiary SConstruct in another subdirectory and expects it to do everything relative to that SConstruct, not to the top of the tree. In other words, he changed the hierarchy by calling it from a different SConstruct file, and that's not something we support. He'd need to re-invoke SCons to have the subsidiary build work correctly.

Greginvalid? wontfix? 3.x?I feel his pain (I've lived with automount directories) and he's probably right that we should be more consistent about how we determine filenames, but I just don't see how to tackle this.
