anatomic and clinical pathology. Students will be scheduled to work
with residents, fellows and attending physicians in the various fields
of surgical pathology, clinical pathology and autopsy. They will attend
intraoperative consultations, follow surgical cases from gross
evaluation to microscopic sign-out, participate in autopsies, be
involved with the clinical laboratories (chemistry, microbiology,
hematology) and attend blood transfusion medicine rounds. As an
elective rotation, if a student has a particular interest in one field
of pathology, the schedule can be tailored to allow adequate exposure if
advance notice is given to the Course Director. At the end of the
rotation, the medical student will give a presentation on a case or
relevant topic of his or her choice. There is a maximum of two students

Andrea OmannClinical Coordinator exclerks@hms.harvard.edu https://meded.hms.harvard.edu/registrar-visiting-studentsThis clerkship is a month long elective designed to expose medical
students to the discipline of laboratory medicine. Regardless of
intended specialty, a deeper understanding of laboratory testing will
provide a very useful foundation for future patient care. Medical
students will spend time in each of the four major clinical laboratories
(blood bank, microbiology, chemistry, and hematology). Through
discussion with the course directors prior to the start of the rotation,
a schedule will be tailored to the medical student's interests and
aspirations. Students, along with technologists, residents, fellows and
attendings, will become part of clinical pathology team in each
laboratory. They will spend time at the bench observing and/or
performing testing (e.g., bacterial culture, antibody identification in
the blood bank) and participate in daily laboratory rounds where
clinical, methodology, management, and quality assurance issues are
discussed. They will also participate in the laboratory specific
didactic/tutorial sessions and be given directed readings to help build
an adequate knowledge base. In addition, students will attend
laboratory specific interdisciplinary conferences where they may present
select material (e.g., microbiology plate rounds to the infectious
disease fellows and attendings). Students will be expected to give at
least one presentation at our weekly laboratory medicine case conference
during the third or fourth week of their rotation. The presentation
will be approximately 15 minutes in length and focus on a case that
occurred during the rotation with a discussion on management and
pertinent laboratory medicine issues. The relevant attending will
advise the student on choice of topic and presentation.

Personal Statement
3/14AJ SchwartzVisiting Student Programs visitingstudents@northwestern.edu https://www.feinberg.northwestern.edu/md-education/visiting-students/index.htmlPathologists examine tissues and are responsible for the accuracy of laboratory tests. Pathologists interpret the results of these examinations and tests-information that is important for the patient's diagnosis and recovery. The pathologist and the patient's other doctors consult on which tests to order, test results, and appropriate treatments. As such, an understanding of the practice of pathology allows all physicians to provide better care for their patients. This elective provides an introduction to the field of diagnostic pathology for medical students going into pathology and non-pathology careers. The clerkship is comprised of observational experiences in the gross pathology and some hands on experience in gross dissection in surgical pathology and autopsy pathology, performing and reading frozen section, all under the guidance of senior residents and attending pathologists. | The bulk of the four week rotation will be in surgical pathology. Two weeks are spent in surgical pathology and the remaining weeks students are asked to choose from a week in Hematopathology, Cytopathology, Microbiology, Blood bank/Transfusion Medicine or Neuropathology, depending on space availability. This rotation is more often customized to the specialty that the students choose for residency.

https://louisville.edu/medicine/studentaffairs/student-services/visiting-student-elective-programThis is a 2 or 4-week elective. In the 2-week elective students will experience anatomic pathology only. The 4-week elective will offer an opportunity to see and experience first-hand the entire spectrum of diagnostic activities in anatomic and clinical pathology. A general pathology rotation in routine surgical, autopsy and clinical pathology experiences are included in this elective. There will be contact with general faculty. This elective is beneficial not only for students considering a career in pathology, but also for students planning careers in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics-Gynecology, Pediatrics, Radiology, Radiation Oncology and Dermatology. Rotations may include subspecialty areas in pathology such as: GYN pathology, neuropathology, dermatopathology, cytopathology/fine needle aspiration, hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, immunopathology, Transfusion Medicine, etc. The preceptor of the pathology subspecialties are the faculty member responsible for these areas. Students will attend daily noon conferences; have daily attendance with assigned preceptor/resident; attend noon conferences when applicable; and make a 20-30 minute presentation on the last Friday of the rotation. Method of Evaluation: The performance of each student is evaluated by personal observation of the student's interest, attendance at departmental conferences, staff meetings, attendance at surgical/autopsy sign-out, beeper call conference, acceptance of responsibility and improvement of diagnostic capabilities.

https://louisville.edu/medicine/studentaffairs/student-services/visiting-student-elective-programThis elective is available for 2 or 4 weeks and will include
assistance in the postmortem of the many forensic autopsies, which are
conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The course
objectives are to gain greater knowledge in gross human anatomy; become
familiar with common causes of sudden unexpected death (both natural and
traumatic), and observe the various pathologic changes associated with
these causes; expand descriptive medical terminology; become familiar
with pattern injuries and the pathophysiology of sudden and unexpected
human death; recognize potential human toxins; understand cause, manner,
and mechanism of death, and further understand the interplay of these
on properly completed death certificates; and recognize trace evidence,
and learn procedures for proper collection, handling, and
chain-of-custody thereof.

Method of Evaluation: Mandatory attendance and daily discussion between
staff and students concerning pathophysiology as seen at autopsy. Paper
is required for Honors Consideration.

AAMC Immunization Form per Institution
Stephanie LeeAcademic Services Coordinator stephanielee@som.umaryland.edu https://www.medschool.umaryland.edu/osa/Visiting-Students/This is an intensive experience in the principles of Anatomic
Pathology. The student will have opportunities to study disease as seen
in surgical specialties and to study medical biopsies from clinical
services. The specific rotations in this elective will be customized to
meet the career goals of the individual student. Areas that can be
covered include but not limited to autopsy, gastrointestinal,
gynecologic, genitourinary, hematopathology, pulmonary, head and
neck/endocrine, neuropathology, and cytopathology with the opportunity
to observe/assist in fine needle aspiration biopsies. The student may
assist with the gross and microscopic examination of surgical pathology
specimens. This is done on a routine basis with the residents on the
Surgical Pathology Service. Cases are signed out at the microscope and
final diagnosis is given with a senior staff pathologist. The student
will attend and participate in conferences in the Pathology Department.
In addition, there are interdisciplinary clinico-pathologic patient
management conferences where detailed discussions of clinical and
pathological aspects of cases take place. At the end of the rotation,
students are expected to deliver a 10 minute presentation. This
rotation is beneficial to (but not limited to) students who will be
specializing in Surgery, Radiology, Medicine, Oncology and Pathology.
