5Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), CommissionsI am a textile conservator by trade and have worked at the Textile Museum of Canada and two smaller textile collections in Western Canada. I have skills repairing antique garments and quilts, as well as darning knits and repairing garments for everyday wear. I can also offer advice about storage, washing etc. I have some experience with washing historical textiles. I have volunteered with the repair cafe (clothing repair) at the University of Alberta when I was an intern there. I am also a textile maker and have skills in knitting, crochet, hand and machine sewing, four-shaft weaving, quilting, and felting. As mentioned, I volunteered at a repair cafe in Edmonton, helping folks repair their clothing. I have also taught textile arts at a children’s art camp for two summers, leading activities in hand-sewing, simple weaving, needle felting, wet felting, tie-dye etc. alison.moule@gmail.com@pigtail_barb2024

6Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsI am a fashion designer dedicated to making things work in the way they are needed. Repairing is my primary tool for repurposing materials, and I find inspiration in what is broken and torn. My work revolves around artistic and intentional mending, adding new value to materials that are often considered useless.

I often work with patching and stitching and love to use crochet to give garments a new purpose. To me, anything that is not being used is, in some way, broken. I see garments as canvases for transformation and have developed a skill for making things 'work in the way they're needed'.
Part of my work involves offering workshops and events that introduce new perspectives on consumption and teach the art of repairing. By mending and caring for what already exists, we also take a stand against the system we are trapped in today.

I have extensive experience teaching my repair methods in workshops for my community. I also lead events for schools, primarily for students in fashion design and related fields, where I prepare courses focused on sustainable practices and creative mending.

4Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), CommissionsDear Rachel & Sam, I have been sewing, knitting, and repairing clothes from home for a few years now for myself and for others. Learning how to sew has taught me how clothing is constructed (essential for repairs), and the time invested in each piece has shown me the value and importance of repair. Repairs include darning holes in socks, jumpers, t-shirts, etc., as well as patching stains, replacing buttons, and strengthening and repairing broken seams + any problem that comes my way really.

I love cloth, the feel, the fall, the possibility to change it from 2d into 3d, give it attention and care and you can create something incredible. I believe we have lost our connection to clothing as long term companions throughout our lives, and I want to help bring this awareness back again. For our clothes to grow with us and that we celebrate their age and not discard it because it is old.
Making and repair has always been a part of my practice but not as much as I would like it to be. I hope that by joining your Repair Shop Network I can give this part of myself more space.
I have taught a handful of people (most of them my friends) how to knit and darn. Mostly in one-on-one informal sessions at a friend's house, and sometimes in a bigger group in the studio space of a friend.wietskenutma@hotmail.nl@by_wietskenutma2024

10Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsI am a textile artist. Currently my skills include: natural dyes, mending (visual or subtle), quilting, embroidery, and on the horizon I will be making my own clothing (I took a class by @ChristiJay and now just need to initiate the knowledge) and eventually will be exploring weaving further with my floor loom and table loom. I teach workshops here and there and am currently moving more towards larger framed pieces and public art pieces within the textile worldI’ve taught sewing, embroidery, small DIY weaving, and natural dyes. I really enjoy teaching these OG skills and making them approachable and not scary Tina.eva.bolt@gmail.com@studio.bolt

6Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsMy repair skills are in fibers, specifically hand sewing, for the most part; darning knits, speed loom patches, buttons, hems, and upcycling. I teach these skills through multiple spaces in Detroit as well as paper making which I do with recycled paper and natural materials/dye. I use paper in lampshade construction, printmaking, cards and stationary, and sculptural forms. Lampshade repair/rework is part of that practice too.I do not have any teaching certifications however I have been participating in space based workshop guidance for the last 3 years and organizing and running my own workshops for the last 2 years. I would like to continue facilitating small scale, financially accessible learning spaces focused on repairing relationships (self, spirit, romantic, platonic) through the practice of repairing objects. julietnelson1@gmiail.com@juliet_nelson @homespun_n_green2025

8Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsI'm a designer, seamstress, craftsperson and artist. My background is in visual arts, making soft sculptures and costumes, from there I moved on to creating custom handbags and garments. Having recently left a full-time in house position at a fashion house, I've been applying my knowledge to custom projects, designing and producing dresses, tailoring and most recently producing my first collection. I have experience in tailoring, pattern-making and managing large scale garment production with factories. Areas I'd feel comfortable sharing knowledge in are: hand-sewing, machine sewing, draping (pattern-making technique), and hand-dyeing.I've taught several adult friends the basics of machine and hand sewing / garment construction and dyeing. Formally, I recently assisted Megumi Arai with a children's patchwork workshop at MOMA - this activity was mainly self-led but was my first experience working with kids in this capacity and I enjoyed it immensely. ljplouffe@gmail.comhttps://leilaplouffe.com/2025

I teach after school sewing programs for children age 7-10. I also am part of a fiber arts club called crochet and liquor where I often find myself teaching general mending, sewing, knitting and crochet techniques. I greatly enjoy teaching as it strengthens my understanding of the craft and empowers people to feel they can build their skills and autonomy. I find satisfaction in effectively communicating why and how things get done.1-971-276-3763@audrey.Jane.barrett2025

7Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsI specialize in patching holes and adding reinforcement to thin areas as well as adding appliqués to cover stains or unwanted designs, 7 yrs experience in this work. I do this primarily on non-stretch and/or natural fiber fabrics, including delicate silk. I have been repairing wools and knits using darning techniques, patching, and appliqués for 4 years. These repairs can be minimally visible (I am not quite at the skill level of invisible) and I enjoy developing a repair approach that suits the garment at hand and its wearer. Perhaps my most unique mending habit has been repairing and refurbishing baseball caps and other hats. My mending practice is inspired by my passion for material and fiber science, love of vintage clothing and its history, and my work as a collage artist. Taught an intro to sewing patches class. My approach as a teacher is grounded in my own background as a self-taught sewist. I want people to make mends that are functional and that they are proud of, from which they can be motivated to continue to practice the skill and language of hand-sewn repair. 3Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), CommissionsI’ve always been a sewer, for nearly ten years, fixing garments, making little things, and altering my clothes, had and machine. I would do sewing machine repairs on my jeans often. I then taught myself sashiko mending, and did a lot of that on my jeans for a while. Then I started mending things like socks sweatshirts and holes on items that weren’t just patchy jeans about 2+ years ago. I started with tiny holes in my socks, and now I’ve done some huge repairs on socks. I’ve fixed so many darn socks in the last few years. I recently fixed a bunch of children’s clothing, lots of moth eaten wool items. All self taught through articles online, and pictures on instagram. I finally took a little workshop with repair shop, that taught me the specifics of mending knits, wovens and finishing off a darn. So helpful. I’ve gotten much tidier with darning/mending with practice. I will say the one thing I haven’t repaired still but and confident I am (truly just haven’t bought yarn yet) is a thicker knit sweater. Everything has been mended with embroidery thread or thinner. I’ve taught to some friends casually at home 1-914-364-0178@mia.modafiber2025

4Teaching (workshops, classes, 1:1, etc.), Commissions, Mending groupsI am a visual artist who is a self-taught sewer/mender/embroider/weaver who has been experimenting with fibres since childhood. I also am a natural dyer which I love to incorporate into my fiber work. I enjoy using patches and embroidery in my mending work on non-knitwear.

I believe mending to be an art form grounded in healing. I use my mending practice to build connections and focus on repair- and be reminded of the power of both. I believe this work keeps traditional knowledge alive within the community, and helps bind object to history.

I have experience mending (by trade, commission, and gifting):
- Knitwear (both invisible and visible mending)
- Quilts, blankets, linens
- Antique fibers
- Trousers, Shirts, Children’s clothing, etc.
- Hats, Bags, Misc.
