Expectations:

In this document, priority standards have been identified by subject. This document should be used to prioritize instructional time during each trimester. Teachers will be able to teach these priority standards however they would like and in any order during the assigned trimester. Teachers are encouraged to use a variety of resources to teach priority standards aligned with the needs of students.

Definition of Terms:

Priority Standard: Standards that are essential for the grade level, last over time, and are essential to a student’s path to gainful employment. We based the selection of these standards based on this criteria.

Priority Standards Criteria

Embedded Standard: In each trimester you will find suggested embedded standards. These standards are a mix of additional and supporting standards and previously taught priority standards. Embedded standards can be integrated as appropriate into your instruction to reinforce and/or make connections between previously learned standards. The same standard often will be embedded in multiple lessons to allow for teacher flexibility and multiple opportunities to expose students to this concept.

Big Ideas: In some subject areas, you will find big ideas or overarching ideas for the trimester study. These can be used to develop units within or across content areas.

How do I read this document?

Tabs: Each subject has a different tab across the bottom of this spreadsheet.

Priority Standards: Each trimester will have bolded and color coded priority standards by trimester.

Embedded: Additional standards are listed that can be embedded into priority learning, these will be in white.

Trimesters have been color coded to make the document easier to read at a glance.

In addition to these priority standards, the math department in collaboration with Cajon Valley teachers, created a draft document that groups priority standards into potential units with optional resources. This document is meant to be an additional support/resource and it is not an expectation that every teacher uses the document in their instructional planning. You will find the link to this document under "Unit Recommendations and Resources" in the math tab of this spreadsheet.
