Hikaru no Go (Hotta, 1998)Popular Japanese manga and anime. Coming-of-age story about a young boy possessed by the spirit of a 1,000-year-old go master. There are 23 volumes in the manga series. Several OCPL branches carry the manga and the anime.

Jian (Lustbader, 1985)A spy thriller set in Hong Kong as China emerges as a modern power. The game of go ("wei qi") gets some favorable mentions in this book.

Master of Go (Kawabata, 1972)A semi-fictional chronicle of a 1938 "retirement game" between the old master Honinbo Shusai and the young challenger Minoru Kitani -- also reflects the tension between old traditions and new pragmatism and is also possibly a symbolic parallel to the defeat of Japan in World War II. Kawabata, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature, considered this his finest work. No longer in catalog - 2016
