This is the hidden text that is read by assistive technology (e.g. screen readers) and machine readers (e.g. search engines) to understand the image.

Alt text should provide information necessary for understanding the image/file in context for readers who cannot access the original. This may include some description or, when image is already sufficiently described in the surrounding text, simply identifying information.

Alt text should be concise (ideally 140 characters or less) and cannot contain separate paragraphs or tables.

If the file is an audio or video file, you can leave this field empty.		The name of an entity primarily responsible for generating the content or data that the digital item shows, not the digital item itself. If there are multiple primary creators, include them here, separated by a semicolon.

You can also include the role, e.g. Photographer, Artist, etc., of the entity listed.

--Anonymous 		The topic of the resource. Typically, the topic will be represented using keywords or key phrases. Be consistent in how you name keywords, e.g. WWII or WW2, not both.

The formal title of the object shown in the file; the title of a painting, photo, video, map, piece of music, etc. This will be displayed as the title of the object to users on the Fulcrum platform.

The title will frequently be seen in the context of other metadata (dates, creator, credit line) associated with the item, and should be brief, no more than 100 characters. Note that this is separate from the caption, which may be longer and/or more descriptive.

For titles that include italics, surround the text that should be italicized with underscores.

If you are making a fair-use claim, please indicate the copyright holder, or whom you believe is the copyright holder. If you, the author, are the rightsholder, you do not need to enter anything here, as it is an implied transfer of publishing rights as per the terms of your contract.

If a Creative Commons license has been obtained for this digital asset, fill out the CC License column. For items that are fair use or in the public domain, please indicate this.

For externally hosted files, you may leave this field blank.		If a Creative Commons license has been obtained for the digital asset, use the drop-down list to select the type of Creative Commons license.

Indicate if you have permission to display the digital asset in fullscreen mode (Yes/No).

If the digital asset is externally hosted, select "Not hosted on the platform."		REQUIRED FOR THE FULCRUM PLATFORM

Indicate if you have permission for the digital asset to be downloaded (Yes/No) from Fulcrum.

If the digital asset is externally hosted, select "Not hosted on the platform."		If the permission obtained for the digital asset expires, please enter the expiration date (YYYY-MM-DD). Once the permissions expiration date has been reached, the digital asset will be removed from Fulcrum. If the copyright holder granting permission for use requires a specific credit line, please include that exact credit line as provided by the rights holder.

If you are the copyright holder, please include very brief copyright information (ie. © John Doe, 1999.).

If the digital asset is externally hosted, this can be left blank.

This column should be used to enter the Holding Contact of the object. If the original item is created by the author, the author is the Holding Contact.

For the purposes of the Fulcrum platform, assets can be filtered on Content Type.

--performance		This field is to highlight if the digital asset only appears on Fulcrum. If Yes is selected, the asset will be flagged as exclusive and will be identified as Exclusive to Fulcrum in the Exclusivity facet.

Select Yes if the digital asset will only appear on Fulcrum.

Select No if the digital asset will appear somewhere else, e.g., in the print book, ebook, or if it has been displayed elsewhere.

Select No if the digital asset is an externally hosted resource.		A significant date or period of time associated with an event in the lifecycle of the resource (that is, the photo, musical example, map, etc. not the digital file).

For example:

--the date a musical performance was recorded

Sort Date needs to be entered using the convention below. Note that you can include only the year or an exact date with year/month/date. Do not enter date ranges here; you can do so in the Display Date column.

This version of date is what will display on the item record for the resource on the Fulcrum platform.

Beyond traditional dates and date ranges, you can also include circa and n.d. (no date) here. 		This is a longer description of the digital asset.

For any text in the description that should be italicized, surround the text that should be italicized with underscores.
If you know that there is a persistent ID (i.e. DOI) enter it here. Otherwise, you can leave blank.If the digital file is hosted externally, meaning that it will not be uploaded to the Fulcrum platform's repository, add the URL to where the file actually resides on the web in this column.

WebVTT is the file format needed for audio or video transcripts.		If there is a translation of the object, for example, an English translation of text that appears on the object, make the translation its own file, put the file name here, and include the file with the rest of the digital assets for this metadata template.
