I’m Michael, I’m Brenden.

Psalm 94:16-19

Who will protect me from the wicked?
Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
Unless the Lord had helped me,
I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave.
I cried out, “I am slipping!”
but your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me.
When doubts filled my mind,
your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.
SFX #1: 48:24 – 48:37
You miss your dad, don’t you, Shark Bait? | Yeah. | You’re lucky to have someone out there who’s looking for you. | He’s not looking for me. He’s scared of the ocean.

SFX #2: 59:14 – 59:44
Nemo? Where’s Nemo? I’ve gotta speak with him. | What? What is it? | Your dad’s been fighting the entire ocean looking for you. | My father? Really? | Oh yeah. He’s travelled hundreds of miles. He’s been battling sharks and jellyfish… | Sharks? That can’t be him. | You sure? What was his name? Some sort of sport fish or something? Tuna? Trout? | Marlin? | That’s it! The little clown fish from the reef. | THAT’S MY DAD! HE TOOK ON A SHARK! | I heard he took on three! | That’s gotta be 4800 teeth!

SFX #3: 59:44 – 1:00:14 (con’t)
You see, kid, after you were taken by Diver Dan over there, your dad followed the boat you were on like a maniac. | Really? | He’s swimming, he’s swimming, he’s giving it all he’s got, and then three gigantic sharks capture him, and he blows them up! And then he dives thousands of feet where he gets chased by a monster with huge teeth, ties him off with a rock, and then goes through an entire jellyfish forest. And now, he’s riding with a bunch of sea turtles on the East Australian Current, and the word is he’s heading this way – right now – to Sydney! | He was looking for you after all, Shark Bait!

SFX #4: 1:00:16 – 1:00:48
He’s swimming to the filter! | (Gasp!) | Shark Bait! | Not again! | Shark Bait! | No! | You got your whole life ahead of you, kid! | We’ll help you, kid! | We gotta get him out! | (CRACK!) | Can you hear me, Shark Bait?! | Nemo, can you hear me? | Yeah. | SHARK BAIT YOU DID IT!

mhGodly Sorrow Leads To Repentance

Nemo finds himself in a thlipsis - between a rock and a hard place - a "pressing." He has been captured (saved, according to the dentist) and is in a strange place far from his doting father. But the fish that inhabit this aquarium are kind and welcoming. But there is another fish who Nemo has not met, much less seen: a dark, mysterious fish named Gil. Nemo is told about his fate. He is to be the present for the dentist's niece, Darla.

SOUND BITE 1

Nemo meets Gil and after is awoken to take part in a special ceremony at Mt. Wannahockaloogie.

SOUND BITE 2

We want you in our club! A family. A special called-out school of fish. The church. But he must pass through the Ring of Fire.

SOUND BITE 3

One of us! But Gil has other desires in his heart: Use Nemo to get them all out of this thlipsis. But it goes wrong. Much worse than Gil had imagined. In fact it scared him.

SOUND BITE 4

And Nemo is sorry that he failed Gil. Gil stops him because his own sorrow has led to repentance; a Godly repentance which results in Gil sacrificing himself for Nemo.

PS Philip Comment on 2017 Year In Review | FCC 158Hey guys, congrats on another great year of FCC! My personal favorite film released in 2017 is DUNKIRK, which is also now my favorite Christopher Nolan movie. I don't know how well it would work for the show, but I love it.

I'm gonna throw you a bit of a curve ball and tell you what film I saw last year that was most influenced by FCC in my reading of it. Years of listening to the podcast has helped me do a better job of watching movies through Christian lenses, and when I saw 2016's THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, it spoke to me big time. I'll include a link to my Letterboxd review and a caution to check the content on IMDB before deciding to view it, but I was deeply moved by this story.

Lastly, my family will be watching THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS shortly after it comes out on DVD, rather than waiting for the holiday season. After all, a wise man once said something about keeping Christmas all throughout the year. ;-)
