Foundation for Monterey County Free LibrariesBNOJulia Fosterdirector@fmcfl.orgThese opportunities are especially geared towards students who are studying film, graphic design, photography or communications/marketing. To increase awareness of the many amazing offerings our county libraries have, we are looking for students to interview librarians and/or library patrons around a specific service or program and film the interview. (possible library programs include: in-person homework centers, adult literacy programs/activities, job coaching services and/or citizenship classes offered). The students are then asked to edit the interview and create a short promotional movie (max 3 minutes) that our libraries can use to share on social media or post on our website. Promotional movies can be done in either English or Spanish and we highly encourage students who are interested in completing their project in Spanish. Students may choose to conduct the interview via zoom or meet in person. (If students are doing a promotional video on a specific program, they will likely have to have in-person interaction at the library branch in order to capture footage of the program in action). Students are also encouraged to shoot additional footage around at least one of our 15 library branches to be able to mix into the video. The Executive Director of the library foundation will work very closely with each student to ensure they fully understand the requirements and scope of the project and have the tools needed to turn in a high quality final product. Students are expected to possess a good amount of self-motivation and to feel comfortable reaching out when they encounter difficulties related to the project. Because of the high amount of needed supervision involved, no more than 3 students can be accepted for this type of project. These opportunities are especially geared towards students who are studying film, graphic design, photography or communications/marketing. To increase awareness of the many amazing offerings our county libraries have, we are looking for students to assist in the creation of marketing and outreach materials using online graphic design software, such as Canva, Powtoons or Adobe InDesign. The materials will be displayed on the Foundation's Facebook page as well as the organization's website with the goal of informing potential users of the free services that are available through Monterey County Free Libraries. Marketing and outreach materials can be done in either English or Spanish and we highly encourage students who are interested in completing their project in Spanish. ---Infographics and ads on a variety of services offered through the libraries including (but not limited to) homework centers, databases on specific topics, adult literacy, the impact of reading on health, income, wellbeing. ---one-page advertisements that highlight the mission of the Monterey County Free Libraries. Students will be required to complete initial research on the topic or database (i.e. impact of reading/literacy on overall quality of life, inter-generational impact of acquiring literacy as an adult, etc) they have been given before producing the requested outreach material in their chosen target language. B) Additionally, students have the option to create an explainer video for one of the databases that are available through our county libraries. This project requires the student to familiarize themselves with the assigned database and then create a 2-minute video where they show how to log on and utilize the database. We especially encourage fluent Spanish speakers for this particular opportunity. Students will be shown an explainer video from a previous student, as well as a materials list to successfully complete the project. The Executive Director of the library foundation will work very closely with each student to ensure they fully understand the requirements and scope of the project and have the tools needed to turn in a high quality final product. Students are expected to possess a good amount of self-motivation and to feel comfortable reaching out when they encounter difficulties related to the project.unsureup to 4YES

Monterey Peace and Justice CenterBNOCatherine Crockettmontereypeaceandjustice@gmail.comEnglish Second Language tutoring at the Monterey Peace and Justice Center in Seaside, CA. ** PURPOSE OF POSITION: MPJC has been hosting ESL classes, led by community volunteers, since 2009. The aim is to provide adults in our community with opportunities to improve their English in a casual, welcoming, and safe environment. ** RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: MPJC’s ESL Teachers are responsible for setting a class schedule, reaching out to interested students, creating lesson plans, and teaching the ESL classes in person at MPJC. If needed, ESL Teachers may also be asked to help market/promote the class to attract more students. ** ESTIMATED COMMITMENT: The ESL Program operates on a semester schedule. Ideally, ESL Teachers would teach for two consecutive semesters. ESL classes are typically offered once or twice per week. ESL Teachers can set the class schedule before each semester and determine their ability to teach one or two classes each week. With program and lesson planning and actually teaching the classes, ESL Teachers can expect to spend 2-3 hours per week serving in this volunteer capacity. Teaching occurs onsite at MPJC; lesson planning and similar tasks can be done remotely. ** TRAINING: ESL Tutors will receive a brief volunteer orientation and ongoing support from the Volunteer Manager and MPJC staff as needed. ** BENEFITS: The ESL Program helps adult community members become more confident and proficient in their English-speaking. The English Second Language classes may be offered online via Zoom. The same criteria applies as described in the #6, for On-site Service. Other service learning opportunities include creating a video or podcast on one of any number of social justice issues. The presentation could be a panel discussion, a public service announcement, or a community discussion. The recorded presentation will be shared on MPJC's YouTube channel. unsure2 to 3 YES

ReThink Learning, Inc.RNODr. Ivy Bonkivy@rethinklearning.orgN/AReThink Learning is about researching, innovating, and designing solutions that interrupt inequities in our education system. This semester I would like to focus on what I am categorizing justice projects particularly JUSTICE REALS (play on word reels). Justice Reals is about building a resource bank and library of advocacy and marketing collateral that will aid in the dismantling of the historical and generational deficit not only perpetuated by power structures but believed by the very people whose lives it disempowers. Justice Reels will be used to create a greater level of consciousness and awareness of how the psychology of this deficit messaging and narrative serves to negatively impacts and influences lives keeping them repeating the same cycles. I can provide more research and backstory if students are interested. This is an opportunity for interns to use their creative expression to bring awareness. Looking for animators, videographers, copywriters, storytellers, graphic designers, social media beasts, researchers. Email me to learn more.05 or moreREMOTE

Salinas Public Library Literacy ProgramBNOSusanne Crichtonsusannec@ci.salinas.ca.usWe have just re-launched limited in-person classes and would love volunteers to help support them. Bilingual (Spanish / English) volunteers are highly desirable. Volunteers help to set up and break down classes, and support adult learners in improving their digital literacy, or attaining their US citizenship. We also have ongoing online classes and welcome Service Learners to help support them (taking attendnace / working one on one with learners who need extra support / translation etc.). We also have opportunities to help with special projects (e.g. compile a list of quality, affordable online ESL or High School Equivalency resources). Because our program is focussed on the relationship between individual tutors and learners, there is limited availability of one on one tutoring (math / ESL etc.) Service Learners have limited hours to offer, so limited opportunity to build relationships. However, we would certainly consider one-on-one virtual or in-person tutoring in a limited number of scenarios. 3-51-2YES
