Preparing to study abroad requires advanced planning and organization. Understanding how scholarships and financial aid can be used to help finance a study abroad experiences is an important step to ensure that you are selecting the best study abroad option for you.
Budgeting is also a critical step in estimating the full cost of your program and any additonal spending you will encounter.

Exchanges: The student will be billed for Hamline tuition
(plus tech, facilities, and student fee), and Hamline study
away fee are all paid via the Workday System. Housing
and meal costs depend on the exchange partnership.

ISEP exchanges: have students pay Hamline dorm and
meal plan. Other exchange partners may have students
select from their housing and meal plan options. See the
application site for details.

Program Providers: The student will be billed for the
program cost of the selected program, and Hamline study
away fee. These are billed via the Workday System.
Housing and meals will depend on the program and what is
included.

External Application Fees for specific programs providers
and other confirmation fees/deposits will be paid to the
program provider or partner institution directly. Depending
on the provider, sometimes housing deposits will need to
be paid directly to the provider or host
institution. These should be the only things paid directly to
the program group.

Visa and Passport: Students are responsible for entry/exit
permits (i.e.visa, resident registration) and passport costs.

Students that have eligibility for Federal and State money for the term of their program are able to utilize that as a source of funding. For some programs the use of Hamline aid is not allowed. If you have questions on which programs are able to use Hamline aid, please contact the GEC.

Adjustments may occur after the completion of this worksheet due to changes in financial aid eligbility and other circumstances. We're here to help talking about creative solutions. This could mean finding a more cost effecitve program or looking for additonal funding.

Consider some of the following ways other students have used to help: using birthday or holiday money, frequent flyer miles, Go Fund Me/Fund My Travel campaigns, bake sale, garage sale, or other part time job funds.

Create a budget for your current lifestyle and see if you can start to save money now.
